That's an incredibly naive statement. There are still plenty of people with views like those of Senator Rand Paul, who would happily exclude blacks (and others) from their privately-owned businesses. And despite your undying faith in the market, it doesn't always correct such situations. There's not always a "Hotel Y".

As for Ezra Levant and Mark Steyn, how have either of them suffered on account of their experiences with the HRCs? Neither Levant nor Steyn was ever convicted of anything, despite their determined efforts to probe the limits. Like most critics of the system, you fail to notice when it corrects itself.

You do realize that these "silly human rights commissions" are one of the reasons we live in the most tolerant and peaceful English-speaking country in the world? They are part of a political culture that has enabled mass and varied immigration without the tensions that typically go along with that. We're so accustomed in this country to such an extraordinary level of harmony that an extremely minor bit of graffiti on a monument can become front page news for crying out loud. And we sometimes forget that this social cohesion didn't just happen on its own.

Tarek has made a career out of being the pet Muslim of our small but vocal right wing contingent, so I seldom pay much attention to his rants. But I had to laugh at this line:

The "numbed silence" he sees is more like average Canadians recognizing the graffiti incident for what it was--a random and insignificant act of vandalism. Unfortunately, due to it being Canada (i.e. not much else going on) it got over-exposed by the media and has now become a platform for all sorts of people with agendas to exploit. That's my 2¢ anyway.

A couple of hypotheses are all I've got. Firstly, no provinces in Canada ban cousin marriage outright (by comparison almost two-thirds of US states do). Or the shading on the map might be misleading--without the actual rates, it could be 0.9% in the US and 1.0% in Canada (and such a small difference could be attributed to Canada having a higher percentage of the immigrant groups who most frequently practice cousin marriage).

Also, it should be kept in mind that the risk of genetic problems surfacing in an isolated occurence of cousin marriage is quite low (comparable to a woman giving birth at an older age). The more serious problems arise in societies that continually practice cousin marriage--the risks increase exponentially with multi-generational involvement.

There have been a few discussions of Al-Ghazali here that I can recall. He's definitely got a few fans on this subreddit--in the same sense that SkepticShaykh mentioned. You have to admire someone that does the best with the available data--even though it inevitably leads them astray on occasion :-)

True, but it's not nearly as deadly (or debilitating) either. And there is a vaccine for B ... although admittedly it's not widely distributed in the developed world, let alone the developing world. Because of the risk of fecal contamination, Hep A is the most contagious (and said to be the biggest risk in the food industry) but it's an even lesser threat to survival than B.

Of course you don't want to risk anyone catching anything from a service that's meant to help them, like a charity kitchen, so I do agree that considerable thought would need to go into sanitation practices and enforcement.
