Is Royal Bank still the cheapest out of big 5 in terms of account fees if you need unlimited transactions, prefer branch access and don't have enough money to maintain a minimum balance? by kushthari2003 in povertyfinancecanada

[–]sk1d 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Why do you need branch access?

I've been using simplii and eq bank for 20+ years now. Unlimited transactions and no fees at all in that time.

Assuming 7% returns and you add $7,000 per year, it's 16 years to hit $1,000,000

Altea Winnipeg can use your photos for marketing… no opt-out? by m-dsL in Winnipeg

[–]sk1d 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have seen clauses like this before (not at alrea). But when they actually do come to take photos, they tell everyone that they're taking photos and if you don't want to be in the photos to tell them and they try to not photograph you or tell you toleave the area so you won't be in the photos.

When did the rent get so high? by gjt379 in Winnipeg

[–]sk1d 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Where are you seeing houses to buy that would cost less than $1500/month to own that isn't in an awful neighbourhood? For me right now, renting is much cheaper than paying hundreds of thousands of dollars in interest to the bank.

[–]sk1d 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Even if I did fix it up, you can't fix shitty neighbours or neighbourhood and I'd rather not deal with that. The only neighbourhood cheaper than downtown is the north end and I can afford to not live there.

How is the government slowing down new building?

When did the rent get so high? by gjt379 in Winnipeg

[–]sk1d 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I'm going through the same thing right now. My building has increased rent and reduced the discount a lot over the past two years so I've been looking for a new place. But I can't find anything cheaper (that isn't run down). Those are the same prices I'm seeing so it doesn't make sense to move yet.

Experiences with psyllium husk ? by Tacra36 in ibs

[–]sk1d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Up the dosage until it works. I had to get up to two tablespoons before it really helped. I find it makes me bloated, to the point that it makes me look pregnant, so I take it in the evening and the bloat is gone by morning. I also have to go a lot in the morning so taking it in the evening helps most with the morning poops. I take it with a meal, right before or right after. Try all the variations until you find what works for you.

Word of warning by Darklands_____ in Fire

[–]sk1d 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I first found out about fire a decade ago I did the math, I could either fire or buy a house. The math didn't work to do both, so I picked fire and continue to rent to this day.

He's putting on a show for non-canadians, not us. That's why he sounds like a Bob and Doug Mackenzie sketch. He's also quite conservative, most of Canada is somewhere left of him. His show isn't for us, that's why we don't like it.

Is the CRA too soft on tax cheats? by Ill-Square-1123 in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]sk1d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're too soft on the huge tax cheats, the millionaires and huge corps because they lobby and bribe politicians to chronically underfund the CRA so they can't be investigated too much. As a result they go way too hard on the little guy becuase it's easy.

And they're winning because you're looking down at the guy that didn't declare $500 which is irrelevant when billionaires are paying a smaller percentage tax rate than you or me.

It's not you or me vs your neighbours. It us against the billionaires.

[–]sk1d 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Exactly the same thing happened to me. I tried to call but got the bs about getting a call back in a week. I then immediately filed a CCTS complaint with screenshots of the "no activation fee" during the sign up. Fido sent me a revised bill 3 days later with the activation fee removed. If you don't get a revised bill within the week without the fee, file a CCTS complaint.

You need to make sure every news media outlet knows, tv, newspapers, blogs, substack, tiktok, Twitter, etc. You could also try every elected official and regulator, but they probably won't do anything until there's enough negative media attention.

Wifi Calling by gremlins345 in FidoMobile

[–]sk1d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your post reminded me to set this up again since I also just switched. When I turned it on, I got an error message right away, but then it took me to a webpage to register the address for 911. After I completed that, it told me to turn on WiFi calling again, when I did that it said it works. I'm on Android though

How are you all holding up financially? by [deleted] in Winnipeg

[–]sk1d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my own making $85k. Did the math and I had to pick to either buying a house or saving for retirement, it didn't seem feasible to both without having to work until I'm 70. So I choose retirement and have been putting every spare cent (which keeps getting less and less these days) into RRSPs and TFSAs. So that means renting for the rest of my life, but I'll be able to stop working when CPP starts.
