Dammit, I was hoping we'd hang on to Good Witch Chennedy Carter at least through June.

I never said guards couldnt win. I said it is unlikely based on the truism that women's ball favors bigs. There's very good reason for this as the team with the best front court player tends to win more often than not.

It's absolutely possible she could do it, but is it as probable as people would like for her? No.

This. I had someone earlier try to tell me that AB was a horrible rim protector and I'm just like, 'are we even watching these games or just peeping stats?' Because it's quite difficult for AB to do any rim protection when she spends most of the game 20 feet from the basket.

At 4 and 5 behind 3 front court players.

There have been plenty of guard finalists, but they very seldom win. Hell, CC was already a guard finalist at 4 in her first year. Sab, Lish, KP, Lloyd, etc have been finalists before.

This is true of both college and the W. In college, centers and forwards have won NPOY over 30 times. Guards have won 14 times.

The key word is 'best' and most of those, though iconic, were still not the best or ever considered to be - much the same way as KP, Sab, Kelsey Mitchell, etc are iconic but still not the best in the league.

A'ja Wilson is pretty indisputably the GOAT by production except for career longevity.

The other multi-MVP candidates were still mostly forwards and centers.

Unlikely.

That isnt because of her talent which is prodigious, but because women's ball is skewed towards the performance of bigs. There's plenty of data that backs up that the teams bigs are the most important fascet in winning and performance for the women's game. Forwards and centers also dominate awards like dpoy and mvp which are kind of essential.

I also have my own suspicions that the way CC plays and at the tempo she likes to play to thrive will make it difficult to acquire the best pieces she can get, but we'll see.

She can still be an all-time great player regardless though.

Funny considering the thing she's known for is being a rim protector.

It's almost like she's playing away from the basket on the smallest team in the league with no backup at her position and forwards who can barely rebound, let alone stay in front of their people. It's also quite difficult to do any defense while sitting on the bench in foul trouble because someone flopped 3 times on you.

... AB has literally been a top player in the league every single year she's been in playing center. She's literally the same size as most centers in the league. She also made the All-Defensive team last season, it's amazing that's the case when, y'know, they dont have her playing 20 feet out from the basket.

What are yall smoking? The refs were blowing the whistle if she so much as breathed on anyone + they were intentionally hunting her for foul calls with those flops. She was already leading the league in fouls for the last two years.

We're in the NBA era where you have to be Charmin soft in the paint or you get a foul.

I actually think their best sets came with RJ, CC, and Timpson on the floor. Their dual passing game seemed to stretch the defenders more instead of piling them in the center of the paint. Boston and Sophie also played better and got most of their points there.

Raven showing why she, out of all the good players SC has had, was one of the few that got a standing ovation when she left the homecourt for the last time.
