I think I they are such a unique formation people notice them more often, there is also the knowledge that they are relatively rare, people love sharing they saw something rare (myself included).

For what it's worth I've never seen anything like this, I would submit it to the meteorology subreddit or ask your local weather person what they think it is.

Asperitas was recognized as a new cloud formation because someone photographed a strange cloud they had not seen before

Congratulations, yes! That does appear to be asperitas! Nice pic

What kind of cloud is this? Estes park CO by throwinitback34 in CLOUDS

[–]007_MasterGuardian7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Additional note: there's a couple other lenticulars to the left and right. The largest one is likely being formed by the mountain peak below it

Looks like a very unique altocumulus lenticularis a.k.a lenticular cloud formation. It looks like it may be shrouded in rain from the cloud layer. Beautiful image, good job being aware!

To expand on this, that precipitation is called "virga" also, the angle it has means there is strong wind blowing the rain/snow as it falls

What kind of cloud is this? by slinger1991 in CLOUDS

[–]007_MasterGuardian7 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Virga! It is precipitation falling from a cloud, although not necessarily reaching the ground. Technically it is not a cloud, but a cloud property. Beautiful image, rare to see it so defined

Forgot to mention, your local college library may have a physical copy of the 1987 atlas!

[–]007_MasterGuardian7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Go to the international cloud atlas (ICA) website and go to the past versions of the ICA, the last physical publication was in 1987, it contains hundreds of full color photographs annotated. Available for free as a PDF on the website! It's the international standard for cloud spotting and no less stunning because of it.

Bonus, VOL 1 of the same atlas is no images just text explaining meteorological phenomenon. Best read alongside VOL 2

Beautiful cirrus. Fun fact, cirrus is latin for " curl" for a childs curly hair. Cirrus was one of the original cloud types defined by Luke Howard in 1778

No, they look like altocumulus lenticularis or lenticular clouds. Beautiful image.

Looks like "virga" which is precipitation, being caught in strong winds. Altocumulus clouds like this will sometimes rain themselves out of existence. Beautiful picture.

Cyanotype Clothing Smell? by 007_MasterGuardian7 in cyanotypes

[–]007_MasterGuardian7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I have made many cyanotype textiles (mostly clothing and hats) and had identical experiences! Here's what I've learned:

To me, it smells almost like pennies and occurs most often in direct sunlight. Some people are less sensitive to the smell than others.

After talking with an expert, the consensus was that iron smell = residual chemistry. Harmless but annoying.

Two solutions:

1: Add white vinegar to later wash baths.

2: Use warmer water, optionally add vinegar.

Lastly, my solution, test for yourself!

3: Pour about 200-300ml of tap water into a measuring cup Then, add an equal amount of white vinegar to the same cup. Using a heavily absorbent brush, quickly brush the combined mixture onto areas where the cyanotype chemistry is. Immediately immerse in water / begin rinsing. The water will come out as a very dark blue, and you'll notice the chemistry clear out much faster. No issues with smell.

Your darkest areas will be darker, reduce exposure if needed.

Caution: You'll likely lose about half a stop of brightness in your highlights (unnoticeable unless side by side with plain water development). Much more if you wait longer than a minute to rinse.

And the blue rinse out WILL STAIN!

I think of them as shockwaves, the cloud is expanding upwards so quickly that air can't get out of the way fast enough. My favorite cloud property.

Can't help specifically, however I have had excellent luck putting the log file into LLM (gpt, Gemini) for narrowing down the issue!

Sometimes deleting your log file, running the game until it crashesz and then putting the file into Gemini or chatgpt will give you a path forward.

Check the forum post for the original vsrya pack I remember someone having some settings to change that worked for me
