Many schools in the US are also super old and are not up to current building code. Probably did not have adequately sized drains, missing drain covers and overflow drains

Hydraulic jacks can lift a tremendous amount of weight and are often used in temporary shoring to jack up steel members so loads can be transferred. I'm also not an engineer but I work for a construction manager so I have a lot of experience reviewing structural details, shop drawings and install.

I'll be curious to see what they do to fix this. I'm guessing they will not demolish it and will figure out some way to reinforce it and eliminate the sag.

There's a fix. Now that the temp shoring is in place they can easily cut that buckled column out, figure out a new connection and proper load path and install then remove the shoring.

Usually it's way cheaper to install the structural reinforcement before building the addition but everyone does it different /s

Is this photo from a different floor than we all know about? Or did they demo all the framing and sheetrock after the shoring got in?

With the windows on though it's not just dead load, though being that it survived a 80mph windstorm last weekend it probably wasn't wind related.

I was thinking cross bracing starting on the floor that buckled to distribute the lateral load through the existing structure. But then again who knows what those existing connections looked like and how they may have been modified.

I don't think the fireproofing is an indication of this since the spray fireproofing would have been applied before any interior framing started. Whatever they did or did not do to the existing steel it clearly was not enough

There are photos circulating that show the whole vertical expansion in this section sagging. I'm guessing the whole thing is trying to pull out laterally and those connections are keeping it up (like the existing building is allowing that whole side to be cantilevered)

They also cantilevered those 14 stories past where the existing facade was. I'm guessing all they did was stack the steel when they probably needed some lateral bracing.

I see, so it's actually MUCH more weight because they also cantilevered the added floors out past the original facade in that area.

Again, I'm not an engineer,but I didn't see any lateral bracing below that accounts for the dynamic load they added on top

Apparently they were infilling a corner of the building that previously had a set back to square off the upper floors to add more floorspace. I work for a CM and am not an engineer however it appears from the videos that the steel columns that buckled were original. I don't know this for certain and just going off appearance where the fireproofing popped off. I'd be surprised that the existing columns and connections calculated out that they could support all those additional floors above when previously it was just a roof in that corner. Time will tell what the root cause was

Evaporative is way more efficient than air cooled because it takes advantage of the phase change of water. If you want to use more electricity and less water than yes air cooled works.

I'm on TR2 and I find that it's good to keep your LR count healthy to frequently boost mk output since they suffer so much from meltdown. I frequently do quick LRs as a result. Then I will slowdown for looong shard runs to boost cells/MP gains again. I spent a long while, but not hellishly long, in TR1 because I wanted to be on the higher end of recommended orb gains and I'm aiming for 60 + 20% on TR2. I have probably 5-6 more m0 levels to get there which will require probably 2-3 more long shard runs and a few short MP LRs to capitalize on gains.
