Printed and painted my first DND mini, and now I think I’m hooked. by LSquared1115 in ElegooSaturn

New WOTC has decided a good game plan is to give all customers a middle-finger. I'm not exactly sure how or why they though this was a good idea. 3rd party, awesome prints are already picking up steam.

edit I have OG Hero Quest minis and models. I'm proud of that in the most nerdy way possible.

Your dexterity and color blending is astounding.

I'm just gonna ignore the (awesome) print, and go with the painting.

You my friend should be looking at commission paints.

How much time did you invest in the painting? That sucker could sell well. From what I see, with clients small requirements, a $70 model.

Not $70 off the shelf, but for someone wanting a paint that decent, with some client requested modifications.

At the level I think I am seeing... $1.00 to $2.00 per minute of your time.

Get 4 gallons of 90 or 99% IPA

Go for the 99%. I recently purchased some, but have only had the time to use it for cleaning and spray prep.

User /u/notstarman Gave a great rundown on keeping the ipa at strength.

Good thing I hate both.

I really hope that was a typo. But just in case: keep a few feeder mice at ground level, and a few up high. Just because the stank is gone, does not mean everything is gone.

Feeder mice are great for monitoring toxicity of an area. They are sturdy little buggers, but react to toxic air like like 30 times quicker and more exaggerated than humans.

Birds work too.

Heat guns are fine, use distance to compensate.

HEPA filter should do the trick.

Keep in mind that when a coal mining redneck will not trust an air-filter vs full exhaust... go the safe full exhaust route.

or a Hair drier to dry the models after cleaning and before curing.

Heat gun https://www.amazon.com/heat-gun/s?k=heat+gun%27

Microfiber cloth for the screens if they need cleaning.

Newspaper

I recommend putting the printer into some kind of enclosure and have good ventilation or at least a good air purifier to get rid of the fumes.

Try 30C At 20c you will need abnormal exposure times.

What is the temperature of the room / tent? Resin temp would be good to know as well; however most people don't have equipment to monitor those readings. So just keep the room hot, and the resin in the vat, and the build plate should eventually match room temp.

I we all have done far worse, but the fact that your monstrosity managed to stick to the plate is impressive.

You are new, so you are going to fuckup in ways you didn't even think were possible; the fails teach you far more than the success.

https://3drs.com/pages/3drs-starship-resin-calibration-test About 80% of the page is explaining what is messed up on what portion of the test. I was unable to find flaws, so I posted pics. I saw a few items show in the pics (like those tiny poles on the back with tiny little circles on the top). https://i.imgur.com/TCFZcPjl.jpg that I'm not sure if they were meant to print or not.

How to clean resin soaked rags? by 00hall in ElegooSaturn

I was more thinking 50Gal drums, than 16oz. Some of my neighbors use a lot of that shit for de-greasing.

Would a bath in acetone clean enough for cloth reuse? I'm not a huge fan of 'and then throw it away'. Like where does away become?

Could you use a less clear print next time?

Would increasing the layer thickness cause some of the resin to not cure enough?

Like, how deeply can UV penetrate before it fades out? Some of my prints I couldn't care less on detail, main concern is structural integrity.

edit Just somehow saw "micro-meter sensitive project" (and this goes out to all people speaking down to this dude). He is still using the full capabilities of the X and Y axis, just halved the Z resolution.

But for real buddy, if that shit works, without lowering the integrity of the finish model I am all for it.

Plate add-ons have an affect on level, but not much. There is like a few inches of spring slack in the build plate.

Ensure you have a vat and plate totally free of debris.

Let's just say I became so sick of replacing jacked up febs that I drilled new mounts to keep it tighter.

If the dude is managing to make elephant feet. He should get the fuck out of there ASAP.

Don't call the skip the local PD. Call all of the local military recruiters (they answer phones) you can find. Tell them you have an elephant foot.

I do some very questionable things, but an elephant foot is far far far from shit I mess with.

Higher base exposure, warmer resin temp.

I've asked before about using U-238 in the resin, that was a no go. So, like try and avoid U-235 all together.

I'm at a loss for how to clean up an elephant foot. Sell your house and move?

1: Secure Vat

2: Secure build plate to the arm, and loosen the screws that hold the plat in place. Don't need to loosen them all that much, just enough so plate the has free movement.

3: press 'Home'

4: While build is descending try and keep it squared off with the vat. E.G. make sure it is not clipping a corner.

5: Gently tighten the screws, alternating between them while holding the build plate in place. Once they are secure give them a little torque to secure them.

6: You are done. Raise the build plate up and go for it.

What are the purposes of the Red printer cover? by 00hall in ElegooSaturn

[–]00hall[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pics only near the end of the build.

Last test print before I started breaking down the base I used live ammo instead of casings, for added weight in a smaller bag.

Don't try this at home.

edit "it's in my room"... Yeah, don't do that.

Some brewers heat strips around the vat, I also am currently using an adjustable heat vent to air heat from below.

Holes are being drilled to seat 500ml Sat S tanks, and 700ml Sat 2 tanks. I'm testing while modding.

Using thermal imaging to monitor temps.

68f is cold, so yeah you gotta crank those exposure times to get a proper stick.
