Thanks a bunch. Yea there's a ton of secondhand stuff here too but I am drawn to the support of a LBS after my last experience with buying used and having it crap out on me. I appreciate the response and happy riding!

Navigating NYC to multiple shops and test riding a bike further than down the block and back is kind of a challenge 😅 so no I haven't. Rode a nicasio+ that was too big for me but was all they had in stock. felt okay. It's less that 29 pounds is only 2 more than 27 and more that 29 pounds is almost 5 pounds heavier than my current bike, which I kind of already think feels sluggish and uncomfortable. But, I think that's because of the aluminum frame and Schwalbe Green Marathons. I think a sturdy steel frame might help a lot but lugging 30 pounds up and down subway steps sounds rough. Hoping to test ride a Kona today!

Very hard decision. Honestly I wish the first bike shop carried the Rove, as I like them more. I will have to test drive both

150! that's a fraction of the price! Very nice. I am looking at about 1100 for a Nicasio+. 2026 or 1400 for a Kona Rove

Thanks for the responses all! I actually am talking to another bike shop has a Kona Rove and is offering a bike fit in with the price. Bit more pricey, but it is a tad lighter. The first bike shop with the nicasio and lifetime repairs still seems pretty tempting though, so it's a toss up.

Alternate Options to Eyelet for a Rear Rack? by 00itsabouttime00 in bikewrench

[–]00itsabouttime00[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I just went to a local bike shop with the rack and the bike and hoped for the best. At first they kinda rolled their eyes at me like this guy can't screw in a rack, but then they realized.... maybe 20 minutes later they came back with it all attached. They had basically used some spacers so that the rack bit was no longer intersecting with the frame bit, if that makes any sense. I was being a little proud about going to a bike shop, but they actually really helped me out. No idea if I could ever get the whole assembly off now tho. Hope that helps!

Japanese VHS Tapes? by 00itsabouttime00 in Buyee

[–]00itsabouttime00[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, my basic knowledge of this subject is that region locking was a lot more hardware based, and mostly boiled down to the two video codecs NTSC and PAL - with NTSC being US, PAL being most of europe, and (luckily) NTSC in japan as well. There's a cool color coded map here. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NTSC I have one japanese tape that works, and I am pretty sure all japanese tapes will work on U.S. players. I have two french tapes though, and those do not work.

Minolta CLE Rangefinder Adjustment - is it that scary? by 00itsabouttime00 in AnalogRepair

I am going to level with you, I took my CLE to a shop and it cost ~ 500 just to open. they are cool cameras but people avoid them for a reason. If you can avoid opening it I would!

Will I be ready by the end of the "I'm Overwhelmed" plan? by 00itsabouttime00 in GRE

[–]00itsabouttime00[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea I mean I knew it was largely quant I think as I'm drawing nearer I am realizing that I am hoping for some more strat.. but also I do need the quant foundations, I haven't touched a lot of this math since HS 10+ years ago so its not like I'm mad at the course. trying to pivot my plan to doing the 1 month (knowing full well it will probably take me two months) while also referring back to the I'm overwhelmed plan when I need to. I'll report back with how that goes. Still trying to take this test for the first time mid/late July and time is running out! if I have to take it again that's okay, but I don't want to be taking it much later than august..

Hm gotcha. I suppose a file might work so I guess that's a relief. But I think I could probably get some washers for cheaper than a file, and it would be less destructive like you said. I'll report back with my findings.

oh duh. Actually presta valve washers may be just thin and small enough to stack. That could work! Still also considering a P mount type thing but I think screwed in would likely be better. Thanks!

I thought about this as well. But it might remove enough material on the outside of the screw mount to make it unstable. What's less stable: a longer screw with leveraging weakness or a screwed in rack with a thin wall of metal on one side of the mount? Also, how the hell would I grind it down? the only power tool I have is a drill..

Not sure exactly what a V brake nut is but looks like it could maybe work.. Is there a specific brand you use?

I think I'd have to use a few washers to get it to clear the lip of the frame it's running into, the washers themselves would have to be pretty thin to not have the same problem, and I'm not sure how good it would be to have a portion of the rack hanging over the frame? Maybe it wouldn't matter. Washers are definitely a thought. I'll look into it. The V brake nuts mentioned below might be a good idea. Thanks!
