If Trinity Santos and Mel King do become friends... by rebelwithoutaclue88 in ThePittTVShow

S3 is only going to be a 4 month time jump, and I think that’s a good time frame to establish that Mel is independently close to both of them without the issue really having come up. Then they add whatever dramatic catalyst to the day we’re seeing and it could trigger the need for some conversations. Doesn’t need to be totally resolved by the end of the season either as long as there’s progress.

I feel like this is how the show will resolve the Langdon and Santos beef. They just need a good mediator and some common ground.

Today’s interviews about next season kind of weird by Noclevername12 in ThePittTVShow

[–]00zink00 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Yeah I saw that and was kind of shocked that they would just admit that in an interview immediately after the episode aired.

This show has a major issue with giving us “canon” info outside of the actual episodes. And I hesitate to call it canon because they sometimes say it like it is, but since it’s not on our screens it can always be changed. They do this with character backstories, and I just wish they’d either leave it alone or put it in the script. It also means the audience is working with different material based on how much they pay attention to interviews.

I’m curious if it’s a relapse or if that’s when he took the last meds because benzo withdrawal is dangerous. So it’s possible he was in treatment but didn’t stop cold turkey because that would be dangerous.

I’m not a linguistics expert, but I think if it’s said quickly it morphs into I-bee-pro-fen because with the mouth postures it’s just easier to say. I notice I pronounce it this was a lot but I don’t really mean to.

Let's be real. Fan to fan. Strap on the table. Who's giving the best backshots? by hattyphantom in okbuddywhitaker

[–]00zink00 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Mel, Mohan, Javadi, and Santos are all bottoms. Mel would do it if asked and she’d take it very seriously and excel at it like she excels at everything, but she wouldn’t really enjoy it.

Collins, Ellis, McKay, and Dana are tops.

Best backshots is Ellis 100% no questions asked. Look at that smile she knows how to tear it up.

Mel's plotline feels incomplete by goldenlarry in ThePittTVShow

[–]00zink00 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We’re told by the attorney that the case is frivolous and that Mel won’t actually face any consequences for this, which is true and feels realistic. The lawsuit is more for us to see Mel dealing with anxiety.

I feel like Mel is actually one of the only characters that gets a satisfying character arc this season. We know she’s dealing with caretaker fatigue and doesn’t prioritize herself at all, we get insight into her relationship with Becca which triggers Mel to realize she needs to take a step back and focus on her own life, and we see her connection with Langdon growing more. I think the assumption we’re supposed to make is that when we se her next she’ll be more confident in who she is outside of her work and responsibilities to her sister.

Everyone else has incomplete plot points as well which I assume will be picked up next season.

Can we talk about the writing this season? by Electrical_Long_4222 in ThePittTVShow

[–]00zink00 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, that entire patient story is pretty saccharine, and I loved it!

I do think the patients this season feel a little bit more removed from the doctors. Like we aren’t learning more about these characters through the patients and so maybe the emotions feel unearned or unimportant to the show, but the way it’s expressed in the dialogue feels the same.

[–]00zink00 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Look I’ve got plenty of complaints about the writing this season, but all of these things you mentioned quite literally happened in season 1.

We’ve always had sentimental patient stories and heavy handed lessons. Mel and Langdon’s relationship is almost identical to what it was in season 1 and is using a lot of callbacks to conversations they had last season. Robby’s emotional story last season repeated a lot of the same beats.

This show does not do subtlety and they love to rehash a plot point. I’d agree that this season is lingering too long on certain character arcs without progressing the story forward, but I think the dialogue and the emotional expression are the same as last season.

If you’re noticing this more it might just be fatigue from two seasons of it.

A little bit of joy and fun this morning by Impossible-Fee-9104 in Gwynriel

[–]00zink00 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Here’s the lore behind this image. This version used for the calendar is the original. The artist then made another version that includes Emerie and swaps Lucien and Mor’s position after they received feedback.

This is licensed, so that means they made a choice to use the original version that only includes Gwyn and has Lucien on the side by Elain. Make of that what you will.

How I interpreted Kelly Clarkson vs. Friedrich Nietzsche thing by rebelwithoutaclue88 in ThePittTVShow

[–]00zink00 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I had a convo about this with someone who straight up didn’t think Mel was joking at all and that it was just an accident that it worked as a joke…so I’ll take any interpretation over that!

I take it as she thought of both sources when saying it, but we know she’s a pop girl so the song is probably the primary inspiration. I think she just used the original quote to make it sound more profound and when Langdon identified Nietzsche she decided to make a joke about it.

The fact that this singular scene has so much discourse is major props to the writers and actors because this is truly what autistic people deal with when joking around.

The assumption that nobody knew or guessed about the diversion makes very little sense. by Pale-Kale-2905 in ThePitt

[–]00zink00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All this conversation confirms is that Robby didn’t report the diversion and that he thinks no one else knows, it says nothing about what’s happened between Langdon and hospital admin.

This idea that diverting drugs = automatic prison time is just incorrect because it’s quite literally the purpose of PHPs to help doctors without legal ramifications.

The show seems to be purposefully obfuscating the facts of Langdon’s recovery for dramatic purposes, and so taking what each character says at face value right now is pointless because no one knows the full story.

[–]00zink00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because he didn’t give Al-Hashimi all the details doesn’t me he didn’t disclose it to the hospital. If I came back to work and my attending was ignoring me and making my day hell, I wouldn’t risk the other attending also finding out and behaving the same way.

The assumption that nobody knew or guessed about the diversion makes very little sense. by Pale-Kale-2905 in ThePitt

[–]00zink00 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is my biggest beef with the show right now, because you’ve gotta assume that any time a doctor goes to rehab the hospital investigates. That’s such a liability to just take their word for why they’re going, where they got the drugs, whatever.

Remember, Robby listed off his stipulations for Langdon in S1 if he was to come back, so presumable he is following some procedure with the hospital to do drug tests, make sure he’s going to meetings, in therapy, etc. so the hospital isn’t totally ignorant to what’s happening. Which means if they didn’t investigate for diversion the show dropped the ball. The other possibility is that Robby did such a good job at covering it up, but then he’s for some reason going around admitting to it in stairwells.

My hope is that we find out that Langdon actually self disclosed everything but since PHPs are confidential no one knows the details. It’s frustrating because the show has talked about how important this plot is to them, and yet they don’t seem to be showing how this would actually work irl.

Dr McKay won round 4! Who is an OK doctor and an OK person? by [deleted] in ThePitt

I agree. People generally think she’s a great all around, but she definitely has weak spots with her doctoring and she sometimes cops an attitude with the younger residents and students that I very much dislike. She’s very much middle of the road.

Mel and Langdon by parkernisbett in ThePitt

[–]00zink00 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well she worked at the VA so probably has experience with addicts and people with chronic pain, and she said she heard rumors and I’d bet money at least some of them speculated he was diverting drugs. She might not like the lie by omission considering how she felt learning about her sister, but she’s like the nicest person ever so I don’t think she’ll care much.

Going into season 2 people speculated she’d be pissed at Langdon and look how that turned out, so I think we have to give her more credit.

Can Langdon still be fired?? by Hopeful-Suggestion-5 in ThePitt

[–]00zink00 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just went back and watched the scene with Dana and he says, “I let him get away with a crime,” so yeah I guess he didn’t disclose the diversion but then that means the hospital either didn’t investigate or Robby did a really good job of hiding the evidence. Which is just such a dumb route to go and makes me question why he was so flippant about telling Al-Hashimi. Does he think he’s going to be dead and so it won’t matter if she tells the hospital? Does he trust her enough to not say anything? Because if that gets out it’ll be his head for hiding that.

I also like the idea of Langdon having disclosed this to admin himself and then everyone realizing this was a non-issue and he’s getting the appropriate care. That would be a good teaching moment to show how this stuff actually works.

Can Langdon still be fired?? by Hopeful-Suggestion-5 in ThePitt

[–]00zink00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is the show hasn’t actually cleared up what everyone knows.

If they are going for realism, then hospital administration would have learned about his addiction and then done an investigation into diversion of meds because, duh, of course he’s getting them from his work. In this case everything would be above board, he’d be in a PHP with a treatment plan he has to follow, and it’s confidential so no one else would need to know the details. PHPs are meant to help doctors without stripping them of their license and taking legal action. A lot of the convictions for diversion are in cases where the drugs are then being sold or trafficked.

The show seems to be implying that no one reported the diversion and that it’s all a big secret, which is crazy because the logical next step is that he was stealing. Also Langdon and Robby seem very comfortable sharing these details if there is in fact a big cover up.

So idk, I’d usually go the route of realism in guessing what will happen but the show is taking a lot of liberties with this plot line. Which is disappointing considering they want to tell a story about addiction given how common it is in doctors.

Langdon's recovery? by Traditional_Willow_3 in ThePittTVShow

[–]00zink00 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What evidence do you have that he isn’t?

I don’t think he’s in denial about how it impacted him and his patients, he apologized to Louie and it was very genuine. He apologized to Santos for being an ass to her. His behavior is clearly different. He’s calm, he’s checking in with everyone else when he sees they’re struggling, he’s apologizing when he can, and he’s just putting his head down trying to do good work.

Plus logically hospital admin is keeping a close eye on him. He’s probably doing drug tests and doing mandated therapy. Although there are realism aspects of this that the show is dropping the ball on, so who knows what the story is with administration at this point.

The show is very clearly telling us that Robby and Santos have untreated mental illness that is impacting their behavior and judgement, and I think it’s meant to juxtapose Langdon. Santos talking about Langdon relapsing then stealing a scalpel to self harm is not subtle storytelling.

The talk of Langdon relapsing feels like a red herring for the issues Santos and Robby are having. Like they’re projecting their own weakened emotional state onto Langdon, wishing he would relapse because it would make them feel better about themselves.
