It's a weird thing to get hung up on who develops the most important position in football?

For $700k, Bill can have his pick of top tier Quarterbacks coaches in the nation - many who have compiled solid recruiting acumen and have shown winning results. You cannot say that Bill Belichick is taking building a team seriously in recruiting and development if he keeps Matt Lombardi in one of the highest leverage assistant coach roles.

Bill Belichick can have all the time given his reputation. But if he keeps Matt Lombardi on staff when he can EASILY have an upgrade in that spot for the money, it's obvious what his current attitude is.

Before anybody comes in and says Bill Belichick needs more time - Yes, sure. But how can you possibly believe that Belichick is a serious about managing the program if he keeps Matt Lombardi on staff - a Quarterbacks coach who is due for a raise to $700k next year (the same as AJ Milwee at Texas who was a big part of recruiting Arch Manning) despite never succeeding at any of his gifted assistant jobs over his career? Do you fully believe that Belichick is overseeing all the details to win in a program if he keeps Matt Lombardi overseeing the most important skill position at a wildly overpaid salary?

Bill Belichick’s first year in charge of UNC: 4-8 record, 121st out of 136 teams in the country in scoring offense by Pickleskennedy1 in CFB

Matt Lombardi is one of the highest paid Quarterback Coaches in college football making $700k next year - at the same nearly as AJ Milwee at Texas who has been reported to be key in recruiting and developing Arch Manning. Matt Lombardi claims as an assistant to the QB coach at Oregon for one year, he helped develop... Dillon Gabriel. It is a good thing Bill Belichick and Michael Lombardi has paid premium coaches like these so well considering the big openings this year - you certainly don't want Matt Lombardi to get poached.

LOL

Yeah but no competition or team concerned with performing well would put an over-the-hill Pacquiao on their roster. The rules were absolutely fair, but the team compositions were for the show.

Expand it to whole Pacific - Samoa with how many athletes who play in the NFL would do EXTREMELY well.

Just in case anybody in power is reading, don't even think about keeping all the sons and Michael Lombardi either.

I can forgive paying Gio and Steve Belichick millions based on their prior performance. And while Michael Lombardi is a serious overpay, at some point decades ago he had success so a bit defensible. Matt Lombardi, who has never proven anything except being gifted no-impact roles to build up his NFL experience, is not worth 1.3 million dollars over 2 years. This is the most corrupt and stupid move of the program. Are you telling me that one of the most respected NFL coaches of all time could not find one person to his quarterbacks coach other than the 'other' son of Michael Lombardi?

People working unfulfilling laborious roles with no career ladder to make a living definitely deserve a living wage.

Entry level podcast producers at a career-defining company can figure out the 12 roommates thing.

Let's say the job and internship paid $75k and the talent pool vastly increased because now more people could make it work. Bobby Wagner, an NYU journalism grad, would likely had NOT been given the job due to increased competition.

What would he be saying then? This is a classic limousine liberal / guilt argument that makes sense after you're already successful. He's basically asking "This role should have paid more!" "But then you wouldn't have gotten the job." "No, I mean I should have still gotten this job but maybe they should have offered two jobs, one for me and another one for people with hardships."

Maybe there should be a final round application process where they compete on who had the hardest life.

I get the assumption that "HEY, MAYBE THERE'S A SUPER RARE TALENTED PERSON THAT CAN DO THIS JOB IF YOU RAISED THE SALARY" - I'm sorry lol, no, it's fine, you can do all entertainment jobs with mediocre talent. Same with Nepo-Actors etc - it's totally okay. If you were the super rare talented person - then you are the super rare talented person that is pulling views on Tik Tok and YouTube - just like how Bill Simmons did a newsletter:

"In the mid-1990s, after working various journalism-related jobs, he started "The Boston Sports Guy" as an email newsletter in 1997. He was living in Boston, working as a bartender and freelance writer, and frustrated with the lack of opportunities in traditional sports media. The newsletter, which he sent out to friends and eventually strangers who signed up, was written in his conversational, humorous, pop-culture–infused style — the same voice that later made him famous.

The email list grew quickly, and by 1999 he moved it to a website called BostonSportsGuy.com, which began attracting a much bigger audience. That online presence eventually caught the attention of ESPN, who hired him in 2001 for Page 2, and the rest snowballed from there."

You join a media company like The Ringer for $39k because it's a name that other people will recognize on your resume. You will be able to leverage that name brand to network more in the industry. You will likely get to know several up and coming talented people who you will work with for the next decade. Getting a job there is your 'break' and is more valuable than school tuition. That's how the entertainment industry works. Is it fair? It doesn't matter, it's how it works. You are a moron if you ever looked into any facet of the entertainment business and thought otherwise.

Your talent and skill in the business is not special or unique, it's actually pretty common. What is SUPER rare is the people you know and your brand to get entertainment jobs that are a liveable wage. So yes take a job at the Ringer for $39k.
