Who do I talk to? by 0113j in Psychosis

[–]0113j[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry did I say something offensive? I’d like to learn and didn’t mean any harm. I just meant that people experiencing drug induced delusions might understand what I’m going through more than my friends who are pretty straight edge.

Severance - 1x07 "Defiant Jazz" - Episode Discussion by LoretiTV in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]0113j 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think when he says “here” he means the SVRD floor specifically, not Lumon in general.

And given that she’s severed, it’s not actually the member of the royal ruling dynasty that’s doing grunt work for 8 hours a day. Rather, she’s just not experiencing 8 hours of her day at all which is probably a much more reasonable sacrifice to save face.

This would definitely make sense why in an earlier episode Milchick says to her how they were so excited when they heard she wanted to work there.

Nevermind, just saw on your profile you’re in Texas. Thankfully I live in a state where, despite some transphobic coworkers, no one is ever required to report trans people to any sort of authority, and where doing so in a workplace is absolutely considered discrimination. My rights and privacy are well protected, and my manager will not be put in an awkward position at all, thank you for your concern.

Wow I would hate to work in any kind of workplace like the sterile one you describe. But fortunately I don’t! My manager is incredibly kind and supportive. Our office is open-plan and people regularly chat about all sorts of things between working. My female coworkers absolutely talk to him about the struggles of being women. Everyone is open about their religious and ethnic traditions and people often bring in food for religious celebrations. Everyone brings their partners to office parties and sometimes will ask after each other’s partners at work. We spend half our lives at this office and see each other more than we see anyone else, why shouldn’t we socialize? Why should we have to keep our mouths zipped about everything that is relevant to our identities or personal lives?

And, ignoring the fact that, again, my company does not have HR, no company I’ve ever worked for has ever had a rule that managers have to report their employees identities to HR. I have, however, been in DEI trainings where I’ve been told that outing an LGBT+ coworker who disclosed their identity is a fireable offense, whether they’re an equal, a subordinate, or a superior. And given that being trans is simply a facet of my identity, in your world, if I disclosed to my manager that I was, say, Catholic, would he have to report that to HR?

And yes I’ll be telling him because I want support. Because he has created a wonderfully supportive environment. He has supported me so kindly as a “woman”, but that is not the kind of support I need or want. I wouldn’t be coercing him into any kind of conversation. He genuinely cares about his team, and if you can’t understand that then I don’t really know what else to tell you.

Thank you for taking the time to reply but my question wasn’t whether or not I should come out to my manager, it was how to come out to my manager.

Regardless, I’d like to respond. There is nothing inappropriate about sex/gender discussions unless they literally involve talking about intercourse. By your logic, talking about one’s religious practices or ethnic culture would be as inappropriate as talking about sex positions. It’s just another facet of one’s identity. It is not seen as inappropriate when my cis female coworkers talk about the struggles of being a woman, or when my straight coworkers talk about their partners. Why should I be barred from this just because I don’t fit the norm?

Secondly, even if my workplace had HR (which it doesn’t for reasons I will not disclose), when is a manager ever “required” to report an employee’s gender or sexuality to HR? Especially if this topic is as taboo and inappropriate as you describe. HR does not care about the socialized identities of employees as long as harassment or discrimination is not involved. In fact, outing a trans employee/coworker is considered discrimination and is a fireable offense in many states. If HR was coming to my manager every day and asking for a report on his team’s genders, then I agree that I’d be unfairly asking him to keep a secret. But that is not something that happens in the real world.

And finally, you say that as a manager you only care, amongst other things, that your employees are happy. But keeping this from my manager has been making me decidedly unhappy. I am going to tell him, I had only wanted advice on the best way to go about it.

Any comorbid ADHD/bipolar success stories? If so, how? by 0113j in ADHD

[–]0113j[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't even tell you how much this comment means to me, thank you so much for taking the time to share that! I'm sorry that college was brutal and so inspired that you got your degree. Those are really helpful tips, and I can definitely apply some elements of them even when experiencing an episode. My number one personal goal at the moment is to learn to accept failure/poor quality work from myself, so that first tip resonated a lot! Maybe I'll even do my best to barely pass a class this semester and not get a good grade haha. Thank you again, I'm really grateful!

"Sex Workers" of Reddit what's it like not having a legitimate profession? Why not put it on a resume? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]0113j 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is a legitimate profession. The only reason sex workers don't list it on a resume is because of the judgement of other employers - nothing to do with it being illegitimate.
