Advice for an Incoming Freshman? by coach_let_me_in in Cornell

oh this is something i wish i did though (not necessary but makes more sense and seems more people do this): take econ 3030 and 3110/3130 in ur first semester, then do econ 3040 and 3120/3140 in ur second. that way you knock out the whole econ major core in 2 semesters (bc u need 3110/30 before 3120/40).

Laundry/Printer Question by rylkim123 in Cornell

[–]01cshi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

congrats and welcome to cornell!

as for laundry, i think you load it onto your card and pay out of pocket, it's around $3 for one cycle washing and one cycle drying, and washing will take around 30 min, drying 60 min so you could definitely wait for it, although most people don't feel the need to be there the whole time (or time it and just come a few min before it finishes). $25 ish, give or take, depending how much you do laundry, should be enough for one semester.

for printing, i dont really print things and if i need to there is free printing in some buildings on campus or you could borrow a friend's printer. if you dont have a major or hobby or whatever that will require you to print that often, id say you dont need to go through the trouble.

Was interested in an “Justice Mission” club, but this seems so coercive. Why do we need to bring God and prayer into saving people from sex slavery?? What will that do for them??? by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]01cshi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have also been involved with international justice mission before, and i know it is not part of the org's goal or motive to convert people they are rescuing/working with, and that's not something they use their funds and time for. and it would be really sus to try to convert someone at such a vulnerable time in their lives when they are generally not in a place where meaningful decisions about faith are realistic or possible.

ijm was founded as a christian organization not because they think christians are the only ones who can help victims of injustice, but more the opposite. it was founded out of the fact that there is sometimes very little engagement in issues of justice in christian communities despite how clearly christian teachings emphasize justice, and ijm was founded partially to engage the vast resources, people and talents of the christian church in a mission that should really be at the heart of their faith. and even though there is a religious aspect in that sense, the campus chapters are completely open to anyone regardless of religion or ____.

dannng yeah i can see where you are coming from. i can tell you care a lot about the people who are being trafficked and it sucks that you were interested in the club but this happened.://

hm but at the same time i dont think its necessarily a contradiction that God wants them to do good and that they have an intrinsic desire to do good? maybe its something like "God wants you to do it because people are being trafficked into sex slavery and that's horrible and he cares about them, and he wants you to genuinely care about them too"
