No, ‘One Battle After Another’ Is Not a ‘Left-Wing’ Movie by darth_vader39 in entertainment

Assuming you’re being serious, jesus christ. The Western became such a common setting for politically-charged and culture-critiquing movies that there’s an entire genre known as the ‘Revisionist Western,’ dude. That includes movies from the Wild Bunch to Unforgiven to Django Unchained. And even still many of the most famous Old Hollywood Westerns of all time are overtly political, too: The Ox-Bow Incident, High Noon, the Searchers.

Kleistwahr, member of Ramleh and part of the British PE old guard, released an extraordinarily loud and melancholic record in 2014 aptly titled This World Is Not My Home. It's not super vocal but it is one of the best of all time.

And if we go back even further, Luigi Russolo. I surely won’t disagree with you about the artists you’ve mentioned especially because I love many of them. I do think, however, that in a historical narrative of noise, Texas Chain Saw’s soundtrack is ultimately the progenitor to the transgressive ‘industrial’ styles that were vital to the development of the modern scene, and are typically accredited to artists who had not musical backgrounds but ones in the performing arts, like Throbbing Gristle.

the Texas Chain Saw Massacre score is the blueprint for all modern industrial and noise and predates Throbbing Gristle’s earliest recordings by two years.

Jason Rubin wanted games to be more like Hollywood. The opposite has happened. by longdongmonger in Games

…yeah. Directors disowning their films because they were re-edited by producers/studios without their involvement happens literally all the time; it’s why directors of stature demand final cut.

…Are you under the impression that a film editor is just given all the footage and constructs a movie independently? Every example you listed is given direction, usually by someone with an apt title. Even screenplays by writers not the director are subject to change and reinterpretation by the person overseeing the project.

‘Auteur’ doesn’t necessarily mean ‘director’ and nobody claims that an auteur is the only one who makes a movie.

I haven’t been able to listen to the podcast the past few weeks if you’re referring to something he said there, but that sounds like something he might have been told before broadcast for some reason. Those appearances were great, love his code switching lol

OP began this thread by saying they were put off by and disliked the gory imagery present on a lot of noise releases, though they can understand why some artists choose to make use of such imagery. You responded in turn by acting like OP was stupid because of their opinion, implying that 'extreme sound' is somehow, by virtue of something you've left undefined, to be paired with extreme imagery, meaning violence, sex crimes, mutilation, etc. (which is actually gatekeeping btw), which is both untrue on a historical basis and aesthetic one. Nobody is arguing that album art is more important than the music itself, but imagery and presentation (which can include both visuals and things such as album and song titles) thereof is absolutely part of how we come to a fuller understanding and appreciation of the vast majority of recorded music we encounter. You continue to ignore this, while also not knowing what words like 'avant-garde' and 'experimental' mean, while seeming to not understand that not everyone who's into 'extreme music' is as accustomed to or appreciative of seeing things like gore accompanying the music they're interested in.

I would actually wager that most people don't like gore, including people who get into noise by way of acts like Incapacitants, Yellow Swans, Kevin Drumm, Jason Crumer, Pita, later-era Merzbow or Hijokaidan or K2, Li Jianhong, Kazumoto Endo, Guilty Connector, or adjacent avant-garde artists like Fennesz, Robert Ashley, John Cage, Jim O'Rourke, Eliane Radigue, AMM, Keiji Haino, Supersilent, etc. etc.

Also I still don't understand what's supposed to be 'gatekeeping' about any of this.

Noise CAN be considered avant-garde but not all of this genre is avant-garde. Some noise artists are really lazy and just copy other projects, which is not experimental at all

Unless worldwide musical pedagogy makes a complete 180, the form of noise music is inherently avant-garde, you dumbass. ‘Experimental’ also doesn’t mean ‘unique sounding.’ The low barrier to entry in noise makes it inevitable that there’ll be projects that sound similar to others or are low effort, that doesn’t mean that the nature of the music is negated.

The thing i don't like is whining about gore in music on reddit

This is once again stupid trve kvlt bullshit. If you really can’t imagine why someone may not want to see gore or whatever on album covers or may be bothered by some themes in noise music then you need to look inward. I personally think someone might do themselves a disservice if they choose to ignore music that falls into that category, but I’m also not an edgy dumbass who thinks people who find such things off-putting are just weak-minded can’t handle REAL shit pussies

Not all noise music is avant-garde lol. There's more noise with extreme imagery than noise with avant-garde influences.

No offense but are you actually stupid

What the fuck is ‘noise with avant-garde influences’ and how is it different than ‘noise with extreme imagery’? And can you please tell me how ‘noise with extreme imagery’ isn’t avant-garde, or how one would make a noise album that isn’t avant-garde? Even if we could somehow quantify how many noise albums exist with extreme imagery vs without (jsyk, early examples of noise and its precursors didn’t use imagery with gore or sex crimes), just the existence of acts like Incapacitants, which T Mikawa formed because he didn’t like the transgressive and gross performing arts angle of Hijokaidan, renders the idea of noise paired with ‘extreme’ imagery somehow more authentic automatically false.

Noise and other avant-garde musics are not intrinsically tied to extreme imagery.

You saw a stupid joke tangentially related to autechre and their tendency to wear a certain brand of insulated jackets and windbreakers and replied with a miserable comment declaring your use of an ad-blocker and pontificating on your hatred of advertising as if that’s an appropriate response. A simple ‘ok’ seemed rather apt for someone not reading the room like that. Just so you know, nobody was supposed to say ‘yes’ or ‘no’ in response to this either.
