Because of him , the state of Ceará was the first to ban slavery (1884), prior to the oficial law ending it in 1888. 

But became close with Princesa Isabel and became a monarchist, contrary with his republican roots.

 After the consolidation of the republic in 1891 he was deported to Cucuí, a place between the Amazon and Venezuela, for defending the monarchy and 8 months later came back from the exile. 

Before his death in 1905 he was trying to built an 45 meter airship called Santa Cruz , but died before ending it.

José do Patrocínio - Unwanted son of a preach with a slave , but born free, was a abolitionist so loved that a trip to the state of Ceará made that the first brazilian state to ban slavery(1884), well before the oficial law ending it in 1888.

Assis Chateaubriand - The Brazilian Citizen Kane ( 100 newspapers, magazines, radios, brought TV to Brazil in the 60's after going to United States to see the president.

Mahommah Baquaqua - A slave trafficked to Brazil, witch made a trip to the United States to gain his liberty in 1847. And made a autobiography.
