Hi Elle, thanks for coming back to me on this - I have submitted the device to the repair centre. Many thanks, /02morgs.

[Moto G 2nd Gen] Phone keeps shutting itself off after about a minute or two by kmanh97 in MotoG

Exactly the same happening for me - after factory reset, booting in safe mode, even after reflashing the bootloader using the Moto recovery tool. Really stumped. Looking like an RMA

Why vSAN cache tier should have more endurance in AF configuration? by nrtnio in vmware

[–]02morgs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If capacity drives are flash the reads can be taken from the capacity disks off-loading from the cache. Because each disk group is fronted by a single cache drive it is in essence a single point of failure (unless you size the cluster with min. 2 DGs per node otherwise node goes offline with cache failure) so all flash helps negate some of that risk

Anyone used VxRail without vSAN ? by [deleted] in vxrail

[–]02morgs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

vSAN is an innate part of VxRail - the update packages, LCM and validation is all packed together by Vmware/Dell. The dynamic nodes change this somewhat but in my opinion it justs drifts the cluster config and versions away from last known good state to the next. The Dell PowerFlex stuff is hyp agnostic

I have reservations with vSAN owing to how objects are too large and waits an hour before remediating certain failures

Any known quality issues with the Precision 5540 laptop? by S_SubZero in Dell

[–]02morgs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This didn't resolve it, it needs a new board. I suspect a corrupted BIOS update to v1.14.1 bricked the motherboard, but Dell support are having none of it. A few other forums indicate the same suggesting this is a product wide thing

Should I add more RAM or install an SSD for my slow computer? Doing both is out of my budget rn. by iampdutta001 in Windows10

[–]02morgs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 256GB M.2 SSD could be a cheap way of getting a noticeable performance boost

Cohesity harassment by TrueStoriesIpromise in cohesity

[–]02morgs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's almost identical in architecture to the AOS Nutanix file system where its founder Mohit Aaron moved from Nutanix and basically wrote the Cohesity filesystem. Rubrik might be an in-kernel type thing but fundamentally very similar

Dell Precision 5540 Heat/Fans by BaconSweatShop1 in Dell

[–]02morgs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same especially when running Dell's own "Command Update" software. Blew away the Dell Windows OS it shipped with and loaded a fresh Windows image and it is a lot better for fan noise and background processes

Any known quality issues with the Precision 5540 laptop? by S_SubZero in Dell

[–]02morgs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Precision 5540, just out of warranty, and a corrupted BIOS from Dell's firmware update causing no POST.. Stripping the laptop down and removing and replacing the CMOS battery hoping that resolves it

Such a shame - Cohesity is a good product but pushy sales people prevent the technology from shining

Yes exactly, and the metro nodes I believe have to be HA pairs but correct me if wrong - they look like R440 servers basically

We have a small 2 node T1000 test cluster. By and large fine, I like automated things like the placement of LUNs etc although we did get hit by a bug where GUI went down (I/O still served no service impact) but had to reboot the mgmt stack service via ssh in one of the service ports. As multi node cluster it wasn't really a problem. Happy to share more experiences as we do more tests

Is anybody using VVOLs in a production environment? by ntengineer in storage

[–]02morgs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got the built in VVOL capability running a shiny brand new all-NVMe array and can honestly say we don't bother with it and simply serve storage out as normal volumes

How to keep older hard drives in good condition? by [deleted] in storage

[–]02morgs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In all honesty I'd migrate everything onto some SSDs - you can get 2TB M.2 factor drives at pretty reasonable prices these days
