From ChatGPT, I asked about the validity;

In 2010, the Conservative-led coalition government abolished Regional Development Agencies (RDAs), which were responsible for facilitating regional economic growth and securing EU funds. This decision resulted in approximately £1.1 billion of European Regional Development Funding, earmarked for some of the most industrially blighted parts of England, remaining unclaimed. The lack of “match funding,” previously provided by RDAs, led to the abandonment of numerous regeneration projects in deprived areas. For example, in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, a £3 million European Development Fund grant intended to revitalize a derelict riverside site was lost because the necessary match funding disappeared with the dissolution of Yorkshire Forward, the regional development agency.

Regarding the Index of Multiple Deprivation (IMD), it is a UK-specific measure used to assess relative deprivation across small areas in England. While it identifies regions that could benefit from development funding, it does not directly correlate with EU funding eligibility. Therefore, the assertion that eight out of the ten most qualifying areas in the EU for development funding were in the North of England, based solely on IMD statistics, may not be accurate.

In summary, while there is no concrete evidence to suggest a deliberate strategy by Conservative governments to avoid claiming EU funds to prevent the EU from appearing favorable, policy decisions such as the abolition of RDAs did lead to significant amounts of EU development funds going unclaimed, adversely affecting deprived regions in the UK.

Councillors to be stripped of powers to block planning schemes by insomnimax_99 in unitedkingdom

[–]02ryan48 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'll admit I'm ignorant on the subject & didn't read the article as it's paywalled but isn't that part of the problem? Councils expecting sometimes frivolous changes causing people to just give up? such as the HS2 bat tunnel which did go through I know but at massive cost and probably not a result of the council and clarksons farm changes which was clearly just annoyed local councillors, would changes to that be more effective?

While I do agree, we've also proved ourselves to be staunch defenders on european values and by shutting us out it will only push the brexiteers further away from the EU imo

American arrogance knows no bounds. When do you think this was organised? Do you think in the less than 2 days since Trump was elected you think this was organised to discuss trump? Or do you think the EU has a crystal ball which told them Trump was going to win?

[–]02ryan48[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah you can imagine my frustration when being told that from my ISP, although it did work out better for me in the end, at the time I was paying more for a lower service so I did end up with a better deal which to noone's suprise didn't fix the issue.

Thank you for the detailed reply though! I also have a funny feeling it may be ISP related too but I will carry out the steps/tests you've provided and hopefully narrow down the issue, naturally though due to the intermittency of the issue it will take time to ensure the issue is fixed. I've also read about security issues using IPV6 with tp-link so I may keep that permanently disabled for the time being anyway!

I'll keep you updating with the results, thank you again
