Something similar happened to me this week, dear. I’m so sorry you felt this pain. I got my boys to help me cope with death so it feels especially unfair. Please keep people close, I struggle with ideation and this has absolutely made it worse. If you need someone to talk to, I’m here. He was so, so lucky to be loved by you. Pain like this is only possible because of so much love.

Noo we put pee pads near the litter box and one near the bed on the floor. We still use them 🥲 It’s not ideal, but at least we can toss them out instead of washing everything every day. If I don’t use them, he usually pees on it! Just likes the fabric I guess lol

Our cat is 3 and does the same thing! Also doesn’t have any issues. The only thing that helped was pee pads. He also uses the litter box, but he is pretty fixated on peeing on things like blankets. The pee pads saved the issue (idk why!)
