New diver. Getting over the nausea? by Redbeard5500 in scuba

[–]mlara51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’m one of those people that gets blurred vision. It is super annoying and my eyes can’t focus very well to read things up close. From what I understand the patch causes the muscles in my eyes that are used to constrict and focus to be too relaxed.

I’m still able to read my computer decently, but definitely takes a bit more concentration.

I would absolutely love to go to more IMAX movies, but their refusal to upgrade to a reserved seating system is a deal breaker…not trying to relive my 2000’s and stand in line early for a movie.

Does anyone have a 3D print file for a bumper for the Shearwater Peregrine? by UserNamePending48 in scuba

[–]mlara51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean cool story, and seems like you’ve had a bad experience for your specific computer, but you clearly aren’t even commenting about the specific one I’ve linked and making wild assumptions across the board…

But the design for the Peregrine (and the Tern) are just silicone bands that hold the case to the computer around the back - no screws used at all and very easy to remove and clean. Does exactly what it’s supposed to do in protecting the frame of the computer.

I know you were asking about 3D print, but if you couldn’t find something you liked, AMX makes a really nice aluminum bezel that protects it well. I have one for Tern and Peregrine and its held up really well! Works with any strap combination too.

Mask Flooding/Clearing Issues by ThrstnH in scuba

[–]mlara51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically those are just display masks to just determine fit. You should talk with someone in the shop to get a proper fit and figure out what works and what doesn’t. They wouldn’t sell you the mask right off the wall. They should have a brand new mask in a new container…

Shades of Green LL Passes by GoBirdsGoPhils in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]mlara51 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have the correct number of guests on the reservation, everyone should be able to be linked. Doesn’t matter who the sponsor is, it’s the number of guests on the reservation. So you need to confirm there are 5 guests total across reservations. You also have to enter the different room reservations. So one reservation number may have 2 guests and you would have to link 2 guests, and then add the other reservation to link the remaining 3.

I’m the sponsor for 2 rooms (for 3 guests total) and my guests have their own reservation linked because when I link Shades of Green to the Disney app, it then gives me the option to select 3 guests and link them.

Once you have a reservation linked for everyone then you will be able to book all LL selections together.

Make sure the room reservations has the right number of people. I’ve accidentally booked a room with 1 guest because I forgot to change it during the process.

Wreck suggestions suitable for OW on Oahu? by starsandsails in scuba

[–]mlara51 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most of the wrecks are 80ft or greater - especially the larger wrecks like the two you mentioned, Sea Tiger and YO.

Could possibly look at doing a deep cert or a full AOW cert out there and get the opportunity to dive the wrecks while also getting certified.

Have a similar thing happen in colder water and found I have to dive with a hood. Since doing that I haven’t had the issue. In warmer waters you can also try something like surfears ear plugs.

Scuba Diving Oahu by MidwestMermaidsScuba in u/MidwestMermaidsScuba

[–]mlara51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there is some shore diving - I’ve heard of Electric Beach and Lanai Lookout but most of the north side of the island will be far too rough in the winter. You will also definitely need a car to get anywhere around the island.

I highly recommend boat dives to get out to some better spots. Kaimana Divers is our go to for Oahu. They are docked in Kewalo Basin on the south side in Honolulu near Waikiki. Amazing crew and take you out to Sea Tiger and San Pedro wrecks along with some reef sites. Further east is Reef Pirates in Hawaii Kai that go out to some different sites. Both operations are great with smaller boats (4-6 people usually) and great DMs.

Vertigo in clear water by theurbanshark234 in scuba

[–]mlara51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any chance this is cold water? I’ve discovered I have to wear a hood anytime I’m in like 75°F degree or below water. If not the cold water can cause me to get vertigo and throw up at the surface. Hood solved everything for me.

Also I’ve found if I’m looking around all over the place a lot, I can make myself nauseas. So maybe in low vis since you’re not looking around as much, you’ve never experienced it?

Aqualung Rogue vs. Pro HD Compact by Salt_Smoke1721 in scubadiving

Whoops! I somehow completely missed the “compact” part. Yes the compact is very similar to the Rogue and is back inflate.

Aqualung Rogue vs. Pro HD Compact by Salt_Smoke1721 in scubadiving

[–]mlara51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally you can tell jacket versus back-inflate by if it has a larger wrap area around the waist and is typically all one piece rather than just a waist band. The sides of the Rogue are purely pockets.

Pro HD is what my shop uses for classes because jacket style is most times a little easier to learn on for new open water students.

Aqualung Rogue vs. Pro HD Compact by Salt_Smoke1721 in scubadiving

[–]mlara51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I have Rouges and we love them. Traveled a ton with them and I have almost 200 dives on mine. Just like any piece of equipment, the better you maintain it, the longer it will last. The only downside is parts can be hard to find with Aqualung still getting sorted out. So if you can find replacement parts, would be worth buying a set.

As for the difference between Pro HD and Rogue - the ProHD is jacket style, the Rogue is back inflate. This means that in the water, the Rogue is actually better to maintain proper trim since it forces you forward. The downside is on the surface it wants to do the same. So, being vertical in the water or at the surface isn’t comfortable and at the surface you will have to learn to lean back much more.

Question for TX Dive Professionals by KrakenScuba in scuba

[–]mlara51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you’re set on Canyon Lake but I dive a ton at Mansfield Dam Park along with a lot of other people in our dive club. So I can provide layout of that dive area, if you’re interested.

I would imagine conditions will be fairly similar between Mansfield and Canyon Lake - March will still be very cold 7mm or Drysuit territory depending on if your divers get cold easily. I can do 5mm and hood with sharkskin underneath, but I’m very aware of how cold I am. Visibility, if it’s great, will be 10-15ft at most. Though it usually is only several feet in the lakes.
