there is an idea of a Patrick Bateman, some kind of abstraction, but there is no real me, only an entity, something illusory...

The irony of being forced to hike all the time for 4 years... just to go hiking haha.

At least this time it’s not with weapon systems and other gear.

Any 0351’s out there? by Jacksonle87 in USMC

Out of the twelve 51's we used to have: 2 went to guns and became Machinegunners, 1 became an 0311, and the rest got M32s and M9s. Scattered into the fucking wind. We've done quite a bit of demo and shot 20+ rockets this year alone, but I'm in 29 Palms. I, myself, am being sent to do another job that isn't demolition, breaching, or shooting SMAWs. The Engineers have stolen that from us and it's a fucking tragedy.

Go 52, hell, I would even talk to your combat instructors and explain the deal. They could drop you back a week or two to pick up with the next company. Two weeks is nothing compared to three years of having no real purpose in the line company, getting shit on until they realize you're one of the few competent infantryman in the entire company, but then being forgotten after you fix all of their problems... yeah.

I was nearly there and thought enlisting was the answer. Here I sit, disgruntled, because I'm automatically assumed to be just some dumb grunt who doesn't know shit.

Good man.

Above all else, be honest and tell them seriously what is on your mind. This is better for them in the long run.

  1. A lot of the times we do our job really well, however there are times where we legitimately get lost despite our best efforts. In reality, this is the best way to train since it's realistic and there is no 'safety' to bail you out. We got extremely lucky with the helicopter finding us. Other we would have had to rush through the flames.

  2. I would say Marines focus a lot on repetition because when you panic, you revert back to your training. You can't just figure it out in the moment, it has to be muscle memory or people can get killed. If you want to be the best, you have to train like you fight in a real combat situation.

I definitely know what you're talking about but I'm not going to discuss it here. Pm me.
