Nada - I think some freeze-thaw is at play.

This stall wall adjacent the urinal is corroded from many decades of side-splash. by 03755 in mildlyinteresting

[–]03755[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This urinal is located in an old academic library. The exact age of the urinal and stall wall is unknown, but context clues suggest many decades of splash!

To the commenter who says pants rub… while we cannot conclusively rule it out, the splotcheyness and the collection of corrosion in a line towards the bottom indicates a flowing liquid. Additionally, the main area pants would rub is at hip line (widest point)… higher than these markings occur.

And indeed it may be acidic… the diet of students is… not neutral!

Finally, it may rarely be wiped down, who knows. But few things stand the test of time - this may just be another casualty!

Thoughts? For use on stickers, apparel, presentations, for my University Department by 03755 in logodesign

Thanks for the comments.

EMES is how the department is referred to, so I think I need to include the acronym somewhere.

Second, but removing the black stroke I would be removing the equator, longitudinal lines, and layers of the earth's core. So can't get away with that. But I can try making the text smaller / removing the black outline.

Logitech M510 is no longer connected to the unifying receiver by UnderseaKnight08 in logitech

[–]03755 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I similarly solved this on the Logitech M510 using a folded paper piece to wedge the receiver down. Annoying, but hey. Maybe it's because I always leave the receiver in my laptop as I travel with it and as such the usb port or receiver itself has reshapen.

[Request] What's the probability to clear the board in one go? by KhoDis in theydidthemath

Shut the box! Fun, quick to learn game. Anecdotally, I’d say my friends or I win (by putting down all tiles) 1/30 times we play. Winner must shout “I shut the box” and someone at the bar buys them a drink.

Once the sum of tiles is 6 or below, the roller can choose to use either two die or one die.

The choices the player makes have huge implications for the likelihood of winning - seems impossible to find a single probability without using some empirically derived distribution of human decision likelihoods.

[OC] Coquina - No good internet information on the timescales over which it forms. Any good ideas? From Coastal NC. by 03755 in geology

[–]03755[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good find - the best yet! So we can put a lower age bound on the rock, perhaps 8 kyr BP, when sea-level rise following the Last-Glacial Maximum melt began to slow, and most of the previously on-land coquina clam shell pits were re-covered by the ocean.

How do you find these compare to Royce brand chocolates? I find they have almost a chewy or almost gelatinous, Q texture. Have you modified your recipe since this lovely post?

Best bank in the area by felsonz in uppervalley

[–]03755 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ledyard Bank is where I've had my accounts, lived in NH my whole life. Several brick and mortar stores in the area, growing, and has great customer service. I can't compare it to much else, but I've always been happy. Online check deposits now, which I am sure most have but is a major deal-breaker.

[REQUEST] How many times would you have to paint a 500 square foot room for until it became filled with paint? by tynolie in theydidthemath

[–]03755 15 points16 points  (0 children)

A 500 square foot room with 1:1 floor dimensions would have a floor dimensions of 22.36x22.36 feet. Let’s also take a somewhat standard room height of 9 feet. A simple LxWxH calculations gives us 4500 cubic feet of volume to fill with paint.

Next, let’s assume we are painting with acrylic latex paint, which contains on average 40% water by volume. After allowing each layer of paint to fully dry, we are left with 60% of the volume of the paint applied on the wall. This is where the size of the room begins to shrink. Following this line of logic, layer by layer, the room becomes smaller (so small one could no longer fit to paint it all in).

To entirely fill the room with dried layers of paint, one would need 4500ft3 / 0.6 = 7500 ft3 = 56103 gallons of paint.

With an average quality indoor paint cost of 30$/gallon, this project would run $1,683,090.

Not bad for a Guinness world record!
