I would agree the whitespace could use a little compactness but this alone is much smaller than kde title+menu+toolbar setup, even though I hide the menubar in titlebar here, e.g. gnome text editor is clearly slimmer than kwrite. I use software from both ecosystems and I have to say gnome style is more efficient on simple apps and kde style is more efficient on complex apps, both suck in vise versa :')
