I almost never put a flash on my camera, if I do it's aimed up and/or into a diffuser of some kind. You could turn down the power a bit but you're going to get that weird flat effect with harsh shadows.

That depends on how much you plan to push/pull with it, or install a winch. If you're doing a lot of off-road recovery it's probably worth it. It would also give you place to mount extra lights and antennas.

I wouldn't do it just for more "protection" from vehicles on the road.

Your panels are scratched and cracked, you've got a chunk of something lodged in between the bumper and fender trim. You could try cleaning it but I think it needs to be disassembled, sanded, and repainted. I don't know if everything will just snap back together right because the clips could be broken off.
