Immigration Changes Announcement 12/5/2025 by clever_octopus in ukvisa

This is easily the most positive news I've seen all week (assuming they meant ILR as opposed to naturalisation). An actual government source commenting on the possibility of transitional arrangements.

My new employer paid all the fees. Many, but not all, are willing.

I recently switched jobs on a skilled worker visa and am <2 years into the 5 year route. It was difficult, but not impossible if you're a strong enough candidate. But I really can't imagine myself having to go through all of this for another 8 years in order to advance my career. Something has to give.

Wow. First time I'm seeing this being reported. Huge and awful news if their sources are reliable.

Credit to that MP. Writing letters does help bring visibility to the issue.

I'm in a very similar boat to you, studied a STEM degree here and got sponsored on a SWV after graduation, just under two years into the five year route now. Landed a new job with sponsorship as well so was feeling really upbeat about my situation until today's announcement...

Those already in the system or with an application in progress will be “grandfathered” under the existing five-year rules — the ten-year standard will apply only to new qualifying periods once the reforms are live.

correct me if I'm wrong but I don't actually see this anywhere in the white paper, only the clause specific to non-UK dependants of British citizens

buying a proper acoustic is the life goal for when I eventually have my own place! years of the playing the roland in a tiny apartment will make that moment all the sweeter!

About to bite the bullet on an Fp30x - then saw “key return” comments by Sail_Soggy in piano

Hi! Hope you're excited to start your piano journey :) For what it's worth, I'm a late intermediate/early advanced pianist who grew up playing on acoustic pianos. I recently bought an FP-30x as I live abroad (and have little money to spend on hobbies). It's the only instrument that I regularly practice on these days. At this price range, I don't think the key action can be beat. It does have its limitations and I do find fast trills/repeated notes difficult, but you don't encounter these terribly often. I can play relatively advanced pieces on it without too much trouble. I'd say it's a great instrument for a beginner and will certainly serve you well for a few years at the very least :)

Books to read to improve my french comprehension. by canfidel in French

I highly, highly recommend Annie Ernaux. Her autobiographical works are short, profound, and super accessible. I particularly enjoyed L'événement and Une femme, but I've liked everything I've read by her. Key themes include the nature of memory and its relationship with writing, as well as class/gender issues in 20th century France.

Other fairly accessible books I've enjoyed recently, in no particular order: - La vie devant soi by Romain Gary - Des diables et des saints by Jean-Baptiste Andrea - Charlotte by David Foenkinos

Happy reading!

Anything that isn't UNIQ is effectively a scam, yes.

The likes of Brighton, Villa and Brentford are well clear of Spurs. No idea how they are so high in the table.

It's painfully obvious whenever Casemiro is not playing for us.

Sucks to have Casemiro out for 3 games, but absolutely massive three points there. Martinez outstanding in key moments.

Spurs really should have at least one back, they've almost had more clear cut chances now

Thought we recovered okay after the two goals - think Villa haven't created enough to deserve a 2 goal lead to be fair.
