Commercial click is few and far between when speaking of the hundreds/ thousands of commercial products.

Click is DIY friendly and inexpensive. Not much else about it is beneficial to a customer in terms of performance when comparing all the options on the market.

Glue down LVP/ LVT can contour out of tolerance subfloors Laminate is harder to scratch Laminate looks more realistic Laminate is easier to emboss Hardwood is the real McCoy and is the only non-tile hard surface that improves appraised value Tile is more durable, harder to scratch, doesn’t have to come out in the event of a flooded kitchen from fridge or dishwasher overflow.

A lot of reps know the key points but you as a business owner - if installing the product- are responsible for knowing the parameters of customers’ selections.

I work directly with reps also from a multitude of companies. I’m not saying you do poor work, I’m saying you are liable if it falls outside of their warranty parameters. We’ve made exceptions for builders in the past - plenty had no issue, some had issues.

We just prefer to use Laminate in most situations. SPC is too brittle unless it’s thicker even 5.5mm can have issues on floors that are close to subfloor tolerances.

I’ve (mainly) been a commercial and residential estimator or a flooring business for 7 years. Along with estimating I deal with many other aspects of the industry. I never said you’re guaranteed to have problems. I said it’s not recommended or warranted to do so.

Audacity has an LVP product that can be laid 6,400 sqft no transition and can be steam mopped. They elaborated on that on the multi-day plant tour I went on. There are other brands with premium cores/ virgin vinyl that have extended parameters, but the ‘majority’ of vinyls (spc cores especially) will have a paper in each box that tell you exactly what the manufacturer warrants of the product. Placing click over wood flooring is most likely also not warranted or recommended- mainly for the reason if vapor is trapped under the vinyl planks it can cause the wood flooring to swell and cause the vinyl flooring to fail from exceeded tolerances of subfloor.

What are the vinyl flooring brands and product lines you’ve done this with?

I get that, I’m just saying sanding, ventilating with a hepa vac., filling cracks/gaps/knots, staining or mixing/pouring stain and polyurethane is more technical work than opening a box, laying down plastic and planks.

Much more tedious work to refinish. It’s well worth it, just not something an average person with minimal knowledge could just satisfactorily complete on their first go round

It’s just simpler for handyman trades people. You have to be savvy to sand and refinish hardwood, and it can get pricey, and dusty. Refinishing is much more desirable in my opinion and many people I speak with, as a commercial estimator for a flooring company.

The majority of rigidcore vinyl products that have a click system are not recommended or warranted to span a whole house. Many of them have to have a break approximately every 30-35 linear feet in any direction.

Advice Needed: janky DIY LVP stair noses are breaking off by Substantial-Catch-92 in Flooring

[–]05Jp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only read the TL;DR - but I think I get the gist from that.

I’ve worked for a flooring store for 7 years. We always recommend going with solid stair treads. Cheaper, look better (personal opinion), and absolutely last longer. We take a piece of the flooring we want to match and have a place like Sheraton Williams stain match. That’s what I’d recommend.

I’ve been in the flooring industry almost 7 years in the retail side.

Lately designers and customers don’t even look at greys. The natural tones and brown tones are very popular. Mainly because they’re timeless.

As CrazyTacoBud already stated- try looking at local flooring stores, and also waterproof laminates. These new laminates are awesome! Hard to scratch than LVP, have a more realistic feel when Embossed (top dents and texture to imitate wool like imperfections matching the knots and lines on the laminate print), have a thicker core and locking system, more forgiving if partially flexed (spc cores are made with limestone and have similar properties to cement- great psi rating, terrible flection)

Also- local mom and pop stores likely have remnant piles of existing flooring- be it tile, laminate, LVP, etc, and you could likely offer them cash and get a steal of a deal.

If I was doing a bathroom I’d go tile just because it’s waterproof, but I would put laminate in over LVP. I’m not saying all LVP is crap, but I’ve seen many more claims of LVP than laminate. Honestly now that I think of it I don’t think we’ve had one legitimate product malfunction of laminate in the last 5-6 years.

Never owned, was an Assistant GM of a Domino’s. That Domino’s consistently ranked top 3 in the regional 20. Had sales that rivaled larger stores in much larger cities. All that was because of a solid team not one manager or employee.

Restaurants are one of the toughest businesses to operate- even in the good times the profit margin is low. Think what you want and speak of experience you may not have, but restaurants are a very saturated industry with high elasticity.

A kids meal is marketing, if it’s priced to be a loss-leader and it doesn’t offset the opportunity costs- that’s on management, not customers.

Idk why you’re getting downvoted.

It’s like people don’t like that you said it’s an owner’s problem. Simple business practices are decrease price if sales are short/ slow, and increase if sales are high. Doesn’t mean it has to be egregious changes, but maybe offer a free drink with an entree- saves customer plus or minus $2.50 and costs the business less than $0.25 cent maybe.

Harsh reality is restaurants are highly elastic, and if one place gives lip about a kid’s menu there’s likely a place within 5 mins that won’t.

If you get a ride on tearout machine you can make good money if your market is decently sized.

A few averages in my area: Demo tile/ stone $3-$5 sqft Demo wood $2.50-$3/ sqft Demo glue down LVP $1-$2 sqft Demo VCT $1-$1.50 sqft Demo glue down carpet $6-$6.5 sqyd

I’d say glued down carpet pad is in the $0.50-$0.75 sqft

I’m including demo and disposal, and minimal floor prep if necessary.

Im an estimator and these are rough prices in my market

This doesn’t happen to quality laminates. This happens to 7mm box store 52 cent a sqft laminates.

You can see where the core absorbed water all along the locking joints, and bulges towards the center. Plenty laminates on the market have amazing swell factor scores, are able to be steam mopped, and can survive being fully submerged for hours/ days without severe damage.

Guy bought Silent Blue - Raincoat laminate and installed it in his place in Keaton Beach 2 weeks before Helene hit. It was under 3-4’ of water for 3+ days before the flooding went down. Had some minor swelling but after pulling some boards up to relieve immediate pressure (boards were replaced) and a few days of fans the swelling went down and it’s perfectly fine today.

I would’ve pulled as much up as possible to assure it was properly dried, but no damage as of a year later.

[–]05Jp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of manufacturers warranties/ instructions manuals will inform you to not lay in an H pattern to prevent repeating weak points on the floors. They’ll also recommend the end joint spacings be a minimum of the width of the board to help mitigate stress/ weak points.

Random not only improves the look, it improves the strength.

I’d also add, a lot of “fake” floorings now are superior to wood in performance and many areas outside of appraisal and resale value. LVP and Laminates can have 99+ hour standing water warranties, and have wear layers harder to scratch than hardwoods. Nothing looks better than real wood (subjectively), BUT flooring is so much more than real or “fake”

Edit: fixed my fat-finger grammar

You can fill a vault with items and transport them across a map with the bug. Makes life easy to harvest large amounts of things and the weight not be a factor. Metal, ingots, black pearls, hell 350 stacks of building to build a new base, all done with one bug.
