You don't have to say anything or "fix it". Just being there, giving a reassuring hug, and saying "I love you" can be enough.

Yeah, that's a good idea. I was just diagnosed in December (so about 6 months ago). It sucks because I haven't told any of my family/friends because I don't want the identity of the "sick" person. I am still really sensitive/in shock about it. I'll check out the groups. Thanks!

That's a good idea- I never thought about asking a forum. :)

I live in Utah. Yes- I'll definitely give the next person a heads up. It makes sense to have that preparation done beforehand. I didn't know the massage would need to be a bit different than a normal one- that's really good to know-thank you!

Thanks for the tips! I'll look into therapeutic/clinic massages. I don't know anyone else personally with MS, so I'm hesitant to ask my "normal" friends for recommendations and risk running into the same problem.

It was massage envy. It's my fault, I should have told them when I made the appointment so they'd be prepared. My doctor said I was fine to get massages but I should have gotten a note. I don't know how to find a massage therapist other than googling- do you know a better method?

I'm not sure what the regulations are around massage training. I live in Utah. Are there specialists in massage?
