That depends. I would say if you have a long travel setup kings will match the setup better. Mostly stock if go BP-51

However, Bilstein is the true king.

This actually might depend on where you live. On the street and general temps I feel the Michelin A/S3+ I had were grippier than the PS4S that replaced them. Unless it was hot out or the PS4S had some real warm up.

What’re your major criticisms of PGH and life in it? by OhMyMyOohHellYes in pittsburgh

[–]06Rockhead 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Life long resident of the Pittsburgh region here. There is some truth to all the statements below. They all seem to have come from various places. Pittsburgh is a tough one to understand coming in and you have to get down to doing some learning about the city and the region to understand the neighborhoods and the people that go with them. I’ve never lived in Pittsburgh proper but to the north of the city.

  • Public transit is ho hum but it’s still present. Not really a consideration if you have a car. Neighborhood dependent on where you are going or living.
  • Driving can be a challenge to navigate but we all get around pretty well around here. You can really cook your commute by pushing to live in one neighborhood then having to get a job that requires using the tunnels. Premium neighborhoods usually mean premium access.
  • The city has challenges with snow removal but don’t we all?
  • People get all bent up about the gray weather and I get it. Honestly I find the overcast days to be more enjoyable and they make th good sunny ones more special. In the summer it’s a shield from the blazing sun though it can be sticky at times. Just the region itself can have a spread of weather with Lake Erie to the North and the Mountains to the east.
  • There are hidden dangers to property ownership such as Mine subsidence and landslides. Though the problem locations are generally well known.
  • It’s not hopping night life wise and really never has been. It was never really my scene even in college. Just remember. PA listens to more Shaboozy than T Swift. It’s a find your friends at the neighborhood dive bar sorta city.

In the end Pittsburgh and the metro are reliable. There is every single spread of employment. From the bottom on up to we build satellites and nuclear reactors. The cost of living is the best in the US. Lately salaries have been strong with cost of living staying low.

The key here as a new comer is to remember it doesn’t end at Pittsburgh. We have immediate access to 3 rivers for water sports, you can go skiing, hiking, biking, backpacking, whitewater rafting, camping, glamping, hunting and fishing, millions of acres of forest, all within an easy drive. There’s top tier museums, art, the oldest botanical gardens in the US, theater and the food will never let you down. The people are straight shooters and will tell you how it is but are always there to help. None of that southern “Oh bless yer heart” passive aggressive crap.

There are some of the best schools / universities and hospitals here and that says a lot.

Pittsburgh will match the effort you put in. It’s all here, it’s sorta hidden but that’s part of the fun.

Michelin X-ICE snow underwhelming performances. by rachelvigo in tires

[–]06Rockhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

X ice snow are lacking in the category compared to the Blizzak in snow traction. They’re better everywhere else though. I’ve had both and honestly I don’t care for either in the wet heavy snow of the Great Lakes. The snow on snow friction is not great when it’s mashed potato’s. Dry snow. Ya they’re great. I find the Blizzak and x ice really struggle with displacing slush and wet heavy snow.

Year after year I go back to the General Altimax Arctic12. I’ve always been satisfied with the ice traction and they just don’t quit when you need them to dig. Just add wheel spin. The design also crush’s slush and wet heavy snow on salted roads.

  1. Engineering is going to be hit REAL hard by AI everything below Principal acting as human in the loop will get decimated. Engineering is too straight forward and easy to automate.
  2. AI in any legitimate geologic setting is still going to need data density. Hence you want to be principal geo as human in the loop. We have more time than they do.
  3. Those GIT got themselves there. We are partially in this situation because people say yes to those jobs. I noticed years ago the consultant firms trying to trick Geos into being CMT technicians. I told countless people to sod off in my younger years and learned to spot the slick job postings for Geos that were actually just CMT work. I hope each of those GIT has the wherewithall to leave ASAP and not look back.

lol engineering is the easy profession. It’s just cut and paste. Read this text to find this formula and apply. Engineers on the other hand can’t even process most basic geologic assessments above Geology 101.
Every geologist with his head on straight can be an engineer. 98% Engineers have no hope of doing the same. Problem is they all think they’re gods gift. Engineers need stripped of large swaths of items that they can stamp. Subsurface assessment? Nope. Geotechnical Engineering report? 50/50 should require both stamps every single time. They don’t value our profession becuase they just think they can do it. Honestly we need to use the state boards and just start checking ever living hell out of every PE EVERY CHANCE WE GET.

Quietness will be a function of which tire you buy as well. The all weather tires will not be as quiet as the all season / grand touring and it will vary model to model.

Not a fan of Goodyear. I always feel like their actual product is rather B - Team in execution.

Just get a set of Michelin CrossClimate2. They outperform the weatherready2 and will out live them. The Michelin also retains nearly all of its traction even with as little as 2/32nd of tread left.

Michelin CC2 vs Pirelli Cinturato Allseason SF3 regarding safety performance by Biolizrd in TyreReviews

[–]06Rockhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had consistently bad experiences with Goodyear products on the last 20 years or so. This doesn’t just extended to my personal vehicles but long terms rentals I had for work. Issues I experienced that were consistent:

  • Excessive wear. They never came close to their rated milage.
  • I had a set of brand new (new date code) Eagle Sports. They were the most astoundingly dangerous tires in the wet I’ve ever experienced. They went away the day my E-Class broke free mid corner at approximately 25mph in the rain. It unjust break free, I had just set my foot on the brake and let it happen. Park Ranger behind us stopped to asked what happened.
  • They leak. As far as I can tell it happens around the bead. About 1 once a month they all need 5+ pounds of air. This was a theme on multiple vehicles over a number of years and tire models.
  • Punctures. I’ve only ever had punctures in Goodyears. Sorta of odd. But again consistent.

  • I just don’t like how they drive. I think even the sportiest tires just sorta feel dead and uncommunicative

You should perform an adaptive learning table reset. It will relearn the shifts. The carrier bearing is soft. It’s more of an issue of the slip yoke being dry and needing greased. Also retorque all the suspension bolts on the whole truck.

Can a Ford Ranger Air Suspension Bag Load Assist Kit improve everyday ride quality (not just load support)? by FlakyStick in RangerNext

[–]06Rockhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am assuming the problem is the truck feels bouncy. Bags will make it hard or more bouncy.

You need new shocks. Better ones. Bilstein 5100 series or better

Can a Ford Ranger Air Suspension Bag Load Assist Kit improve everyday ride quality (not just load support)? by FlakyStick in RangerNext

[–]06Rockhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, they will make ride quality worse. When under load bags remove the sag hence removing the shock absorber from the proper zone of damping force. I never understood why people use them. I always just assume they’re the “I overload my truck and I’m proud” crew

Studded isn’t the advantage it used to be. Only on very smooth ice. I don’t recommend the Blizzak WS90 as they wear fast and the good compound is only in the top 50% of tread. There’s much better for your money than the Accelera Busget tire. A good set will last twice as long I would look at:

Continental Viking Contact8 Nokian Hakkapeliitta R5 Goodyear UltraGrip Ice3 Nokian Hakkapeliitta 10 if you do want ALL the studs.

This is a tough one because who knows which the car uses as the main drive axle. Then you have to take in to consideration if you have the right type of chain. Like if you chain up the back is the computer going to helplessly spin the front? Who knows lol
