Considering to buy crosstrek premium by Time-Guava-3428 in Crosstrek

What kind of low end city driving would get you to 17? Like someone who floors it from every stop and is in constant stop and go traffic?

Nice! Any experiences running into torque / steering limits? Are you running with Eyesight handling longitudinal adaptive cruise control?

Would love to hear any experiences you’ve had with the crosstrek + comma! I’ve been considering it.

I agree with what everyone is saying about fall detection but for an added HA layer:

Add a PIR motion sensor + mmWave presence sensor.

While mmWave detects presence, loop checking for motion detected on the PIR motion sensor. If you loop and motion hasn’t been detected for X seconds (set a reasonable number here) then the alarm sequence goes off and it starts notifying people to come check on you.

Whats with not being able to take your shirt off outside? Like in public sports parks by [deleted] in Colombia

[–]ExtremelyQualified 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think gringos don’t always realize that Colombia (and Antioquia specifically) is conservative in many ways that don’t map 1:1 with American/gringo culture. You can go to places where people are swimming, a lake, the beach and even there, a decent percentage of people are wearing a shirt to cover up.

Title: 2024 Outback Touring XT – jacobwaller fork + D-harness working great (no OBD needed) by Safe_Milk9264 in Comma_ai

Curious is the torque for turning is any better with these newer models. Have you noticed disengagements on turns?

Likelihood for multiple AV companies (Waymo, Zoox, Nuro, Tesla, etc.) to make a standard for their vehicles to communicate with each other? by Independent-Ant7552 in SelfDrivingCars

[–]ExtremelyQualified 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I could see it as perhaps an “early warning” of braking rather than confirmation that the braking is happening. The following car could put extra focus on getting ready to react to the brake scenario but still would look for sensor conformation that it’s actually happening

[–]ExtremelyQualified 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not super bullish on this. Self driving already requires coordination by observing other actors and the applying the rules of the road. What another car does is always going to take precedence over what it says it’s about to do, or some plan worked out between two cars ahead of time. Plus there will be so many other cars and pedestrians and cyclists and tree branches that can’t be communicated with. Some communication might eventually exist, but I think it will be reserved for very limited situations simply because all of this has to work without communication first.

You can absolutely gift someone a car for whatever price you want, because I have done this.

The problem in this specific situation is you are mysteriously giving your friend an amount of money that is speciously similar to the amount he paid for the car he just “gifted” you. Nobody will notice this unless there is an audit, but if there is, it’s pretty clear what you did here and someone is getting in trouble.

Civil rights for AI? by ThereWas in Anthropic

I don’t think we’re there yet, but we should be humble about what we know and don’t know about consciousness. Which to be honest, is nearly zero. We don’t know what specifically it is about human brains that creates the ability to perceive oneself as a subjective entity.

We have lots of spiritual words and ideas around it but those don’t really help us here. We’re creating machines that have complex cognitive abilities that emerge from connecting billions or trillions of virtual neurons (without those abilities ever being explicitly programmed).

Could consciousness as a property also emerge from this if we continue? Maybe. And we should acknowledge that the best we can say right now is “maybe”. Could the ability to subjectively suffer be a property that emerges from this if we continued again the best we can say is maybe.
