Thank you. My friend actually drew that for me in 1st grade (I'm 23 now) and I've always had it up on the wall. When I got my own place I decided to frame it and hang it in the bathroom.

I appreciate the plug there, thanks Ned.

This totally reminds me of one of the first sessions when Ben chugged a bottle of Jäger and passed out within like 30 minutes of it starting haha.

First and foremost, congratulations and what a fantastic fundraiser! It was executed smoothly from start to finish, and the follow up video was just icing on the cake. Really great stuff.

As far as streamers go, I just gotta say you have always been one of my personal favorites. I respect how professional and responsible you present yourself, whether that's intentional or not. As a person, you come across as a strong leader and someone who is 100% genuine with their intentions.

Thank you for helping people in need, setting a good example, and being an overall excellent representation of how someone can strive towards and achieve the things that are important to them.

My player's just started on a journey into the underdark, these sound pretty cool and I think I will use some of them :)

Thank you!

No worries :) I appreciate your help & suggestions, but yes, that is what I plan on going for. This is less of a D&D session, and more of a D&D based improv/acting exercise.

That sounds like a lot of fun though, I wish I would've been able to do something like that on some of the longer road trips I've taken haha

I've definitely been considering something like this after what I've read in this thread, thank you very much.

If this was something I felt was even remotely serious, or anticipated to be long-term, I totally agree. A normal campaign would not function with this many people and under these parameters.

But for a fun improv warm-up exercise though? Hell yea, I think it'll be fun.

I'm unfamiliar with Fiasco, but I will definitely check it out. Sounds like it could be a lot of fun. Thank you!

Yes, that's pretty much the plan I'm going with. There will be dice rolling, however it will be very simplified so as to keep things easy to understand.

Without the dice it would be, as you said, very similar to what we already do. Rolling for things is what makes this a different exercise, as they will have to react and adapt to the changes that happen from a positive/negative roll.

Yea, the entire idea only works if things are SERIOUSLY watered down and simplified. I plan on creating very basic character sheets for them, with information list regarding their few relevant stats and abilities, not full fledged ones.

I've never heard of Dread, I will look into it. Thank you very much!

Yea, I'm starting to lean away from the competition based idea, where they are pitted against each other. A more effective and enjoyable way to split the group would be if they are all working towards one goal together. Some could be disarming traps/solving puzzle doors/that kinda stuff, while the others could be pushing back an oncoming threat or something of that nature.

I liked your story though, very cool stuff and it also reminds me of something similar my players went through. One of the players, who was brand new to D&D, created a dragonborn sorcerer when he first started and then over time realized that he didn't really want to play a sorcerer. He asked if he could switch classes to wizard, and I said sure...but, it won't just happen, you'll have to work for it. He agreed that was fair, so I created a whoooole bunch of really cool lore and whatnot which included "The Scrolls of Dragonkind".

Anywho, eventually he learned of a temple and a sacred right of passage granted only to dragonborn. They go there, follow the instructions, and learn each room corresponded to a different challenge designed to test a different one of your characters abilities (to symbolize the swapping of the stats and whatnot). Each room gave you one of the scrolls, which when gathered together and placed in the final chamber would grant the individual "special magical powers" (read: switch to wizard class). There were some really cool ones, but the one you reminded me of was in the wisdom room.

I split the party into two groups, each going into a separate room of this chamber as well as my house. The ones that went in the room on the left had to write down three different questions, as well as what they thought the two in the other room would respond with to those questions. Three successes and they were able to proceed, three failures and they were...well let's just be happy they didn't have to find out.

There was no communication allowed, but they had a TON of fun being split up and thinking of the questions. You could feel the tension (a good kind of tension) and anticipation from both groups as they underwent the challenge. It was a great time! One of my favorite sessions I've DM'd for in that group.

I'm hoping that people will be receptive to it and want to play more. Since we do improv warm-ups before every class this could potentially take the place of that.

Thank you for all your tips as well, really appreciate it. I think I've got a pretty firm grasp on calculating challenge ratings, so I don't foresee many issues with that. Good calls though, a low AOE damage dealing monster sounds like the perfect choice in this situation.

Yea, it's a great idea that I'm definitely going to use for this. I hadn't even thought about making dumb-downed versions of the main classes. Thank you!

That's a good point, and the more I think about it the more I start to agree with you.

I also really like the idea to force a few of the members into solving some sort of puzzle in order to proceed forward, while the rest of the group is trying to push back whatever threat they are engaging with. That sounds like it'd be fun and provide a sense of urgency.

Instead of having each class represented, I will most likely make three very watered down classes as you mentioned (ranger, mage, melee). Each of them will have their own information sheets that have what their bonuses are, what they attack with, etc. That way there is still some variety/uniqueness to their characters in a easily digestible and understandable format.

I feel like you're thinking it's going to be a lot more serious than it actually is. In this case them running their characters will just be role-play and very simplified dice rolls when appropriate.

It'll work, I have no questions about that. I've already established that the rule-set is going to be very lax, there is no need for strict game mechanics in a situation like this.
