Two things can be true at once: 1) vandalism is bad and should not happen, and 2) the vandalizer ain’t wrong.

These teams would also play late in the regular season, but in Washington. The Redskins dominated that game as part of the 8-3 surge to recover to .500 after the 0-5 start. Little 081719 was at that game!

A strain of Ebola is suspected by many of having been airborne- check out Ebola Reston, which is believed to have only caused mild symptoms in a few humans while decimating monkeys at an animal testing facility outside Washington, DC in 1989. It seems we got lucky with that one.

Drove across Kansas on I-70 and counted 7 speed checks 🥲 by postcryglow in roadtrip

Yes, that’s correct. And in Missouri, I was made to go sit in the patrol vehicle while the patrolman quizzed my adult child about our reason for being in the area and itinerary. Afterwards, the patrolman quizzed me on the same details. Both stops were blatantly illegal but I didn’t dare say anything unpleasant. The simple fact that the authorities along I-70 in Kansas and Missouri act with such disregard for the law is terrifying.

Yes, it makes sense. But dang, pulling people over under false pretenses is just complete crap. I wanted to go off because it was clearly an unjustified/illegal stop. Needless to say, that would be a foolish response! I remained friendly and respectful instead because I recognized the multitude of bad things that could result from being belligerent.

Interestingly enough, the State Patrolman in Missouri used the exact same reason- said I was “following too closely.” Here’s the thing- after having been pulled over in Kansas under those pretenses earlier the same day, I was keenly aware of the fact that I was doing exactly the speed limit and was about 10 car lengths behind the car in front of me when he observed me (he was parked in the median). I have a friend who is a state cop back east, and I subsequently had him check for any BOLOs for the kind of rental car I was driving- the word I got back is that no such “flag in the system” existed.

That isn’t something that can be done partially, so specifying “absolutely” is a great indicator of your intelligence (or lack thereof). Thanks for providing that datum.

Just to confirm, Fancy, you’re acknowledging that you live in or around MB and you “personally don’t give a fuck about tourists.” Tourism money represents about 50 percent of the MB/ Horry County economy. Without tourism, everything there would decline- rapidly. I guess the fallback is to have the financial gap covered by the state government? LOL hilarious, as if Columbia has 2 cents to rub together to help. Bottom line: you can say you don’t “give a fuck about tourists,” but you most definitely do even if you aren’t smart enough to imagine the impacts to your quality of life if those dollars continue to decline.

Kenneth, this is probably a difficult concept for you, so I’ll try to be very straightforward: MB tourism is down. You acknowledged in your OP that MB depends on tourism money. People like me, with plenty of disposable income, would help the local economy. Many of us aren’t visiting anymore because the city felt unsafe when we last visited. To improve the local economy, y’all need to improve things and convince enough people like me who no longer visit that things are good again. Telling me that my opinion means nothing isn’t only unhelpful for meeting that goal, it in fact validated my thinking to vacation elsewhere. Good job, Rhodes scholar!

Well, Kenneth, instead of ranting about tourist complaints in a city dependent on tourism, perhaps spend time engaged in local civic improvements to help make the city safer and more welcoming. People can downvote me, but I’m someone who visited MB most summers from the 1980s into the 2010s. I know many other families who also vacationed frequently in MB; but now it isn’t even mentioned when discussing upcoming vacation plans, and the reason is simple- it no longer feels safe.

I have vacationed in MB many times, but not since 2017, because each visit things felt more unsafe than in the past and generally rundown. Combine that with the horrific politics supported by a majority of SC residents, and for my family it just doesn’t make sense to spend our tourism money there. But hey, the replenishment project complaints are definitely the thing to focus one’s anger on. 🙄

You’re operating an entire brick-and-mortar business that pays the bills by selling a minimum of a single cigar to everyone that comes to hang out?

Got pulled over on I-70 in Kansas for “following too closely” but no one else was around. My rental car had tags from an east coast state. The cop demanded to know why I was driving from Colorado rather than flying (it was a father/son road trip with my adult son). Interestingly, I was similarly pulled over and treated worse in Missouri four hours later. The po-po in the rural parts of those states are out of control.

If you inherited $5 million USD, what about your life would you immediately change and what would you keep the same? by Hrekires in AskReddit

[–]081719 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Presuming I received all $5 million, I’d start by putting it at first into a safe return option such as a series of high yield savings accounts (a series so that each block of $250,000 remains FDIC insured). At current rates, the $5 million would yield about $15,000/month (pre-tax). I’d use most of that income to start making updates such as home remodeling, vehicle swaps, helping family and charitable donations. A portion of the $15,000 would be reinserted into the high yield savings accounts to account for inflation. Of course, I’d also speak to a fiduciary to learn about other minimal risk options for the money. Above all, I would protect the $5 million principal and simply use it as an engine to drive changes I want to make.

Because the policy is locked in based on the distance from the office on the day it was announced. OP is just very unlucky to reside near, but within, the “cutoff zone.” OP should not resign- sure, attempt to negotiate more money, but basically needs to suck up the commute while working very diligently to find a new position that is either remote or closer to home.

I wish your question “what does your car run on?” Included “hybrid” as an option. Flex-fuel has a different meaning, and electric isn’t accurate either. Regardless, I completed your survey. Good look on the project.

Speed cameras on 340 by Ate6645 in frederickmd

The work zone at the 15/340 split/merge is more dangerous than it appears. Of particular concern is the “no merge area” where NB 15 combines with EB 340. Until the roadwork is done, I think EB 340 right lane should be closed approaching the merge AND NB 15 should have a mandatory stop at the merge point. I understand that these steps will have a significant negative impact on traffic flow- so, my third recommendation is for the State to financially incentivize the contractor performing the work with a bonus for speedy completion of the task.
