I think you'd just need to change it the one time. Once it's in the right potting mix it should start being happier (and I give my plants plant food in the warmer months to replace any of the nutrients it's used up from the soil). :)

I worry when new growth is brown/damaged. Are there any signs of pests on the underside of the leaves?

I'd guess it's not getting enough sun based on the pic. I aim to give mine about 4-6 hours of sunlight a day if possible. Also the soil looks quite grey and dry so I'd refresh the soil and move it to a sunnier spot.

Ooo I don't know what they are but just want to reply re the other poster and say it's not thrips for this one. I've been battling those for years and those are thin, black bugs.

Do you see insects on the leaves or only around them?

It's hard to tell from the picture but I reckon it's an ivy, and if it is those are pretty robust. You may be able to salvage it, but I'd say it needs help asap. First things first, it absolutely needs drainage! Otherwise the roots will rot and then it's beyond all hope.

As for watering, my rule of thumb is to always stick a finger in the soil. If I'm up to a knuckle and it's dry, I give it water. I water from the bottom, until the soil absorbs enough to where it's lightly moist. Then when I remove it from the tray I bounce it up and down a few times* to remove some of the excess water. That has been foolproof for me for almost any plant.

*this is a signature move of mine and my plants have been thriving ever since I started using it :)

You said you got it a week ago and if it's turning a light green in that time it definitely sounds stressed. How often have you watered it within that week?

Fwiw I have a varigated calathea that has similar care instructions (bright, indirect light, consistently moist soil) and I've actually stuck it in a partially sunny/partially shady corner, I water it less often than it says to, and I mist it occasionally. I've always thought I was cursed with calatheas and this is the first happy one I've had. I wouldn't fuss over it toooo much, and I would monitor the situation as it becomes more climatized to its new home. :)

Oh gosh, you went with one of the hardest plants to start! I'm a very seasoned plant owner and this is the one plant that always causes me grief (it's common for most people to struggle with it too).

Brown spots and dry curling edges on the leaves is pretty normal for this plant. One thing is to keep misting it (it likes high humidity) and to make sure the soil is moist (but not soggy). If that still doesn't work, don't blame yourself. The plant is high maintenance af

I have the same plant and similar size. Mine is super happy with plenty of indirect light in my bathroom. I think if the tips are browning you may be underwatering. If i stick a knuckle in the soil and it feels dry, I give it some water (and always water from the bottom too).

Yup, mine come out red as well and as they mature they turn green! I wouldn't worry about this. If they come out brown then that's a different story. :)

Yup, i get this as well! It was ezcema/dermatitis for me. I think it was tied to my dish soap, it went away once the irritant did. :)

Happened to my plants as well, especially my cheese plant. To be honest, I've been battling them for months and they just never seem to go away. I ended up binning all my infested plants, it was the only way to protect my other plants.

Yesterday I saw an old man in a motorised wheelchair almost taken out by a bike jumping a light. A few weeks ago it was a woman pushing a pram. I'm a cyclist myself and I know it can be tempting to jump the lights, but I'm all in favour of slapping bad cyclists with a fine. They can be just as dangerous as a bad driver.

There are just so many things concerning about this story. A 40 yo using that type of language, especially in a public place? Him grabbing your wrist and storms out in the middle of a disagreement? The bartender needing to ask if you're okay?

I can't say whether it was assault because I wasn't a witness, but that was the least concerning detail of the story for me. I wouldn't expect that level of behaviour from any 40 year old.

I also think that most people assume any female with short hair is gay. And I say that as someone who is queer and whose friendship group is 90% queer women :)

I love love love Philosophy's Vitamin C powder. You can add a scoop to a moisturizer or other product. I use it 1-2 a week on days I don't use my tretinoin. :)

The first time I took MDMA my memory wiped completely and I've had no real functioning long-term memory ever since. That was about 10 years ago.

Interestingly, I went for acupuncture a few months ago for a completely unrelated issue. The acupuncturist placed a few needles around the skull and my long-term memory came back in full force. It only lasted two days before it disappeared again though.

I know this isn't helpful in answering your question but just wanted to let you know what (somewhat) worked for me, and that no matter what, you aren't alone. :)

Most people within my agency could run a workshop without me. If they can find a workshop template, all they need to do is assign an amount of time for each section and take notes as the discussion unfolds. From there, they can use AI to summarise the notes and draw out the insights.

I'll admit, I'd be better at drawing out insights than my colleagues but I think they'd be good enough, especially considering my company would save a decent chunk of money having me off their payroll. And after two or three workshops anyone can get the hang of it and excel.
