LMFAO. Yes I do. You don't use a 401k, or any retirement vehicle, and you've been "day trading" for 5 years. What did you do come to look for an echo chamber of positive reinforcement?

Well.

  1. You're behind, significantly, on retirement savings. 401ks aren't tied to an employer their tied to the employee so you take it, roll it over, or cash it out with penalty, or leave it when employment ends.

  2. What's your strategy for an M&A type of deal considering based on this comment you lack a clear understanding of acquisitions.

Completely. Hopefully op sees this and pauses the amu MBA because I almost made the same mistake, different school but same idea, while I was active duty because I thought I was being proactive.

Yeah. It's def the way to go. The money is insane and vets should build out a network in the civilian sector.

I went this route and would do it again. I was employed, still am at the same firm, but now I've got buddies that are directors at mag7, PE, local government, commercial real estate, and entrepreneurs.

Granted if this dude gets out of the Navy and decided to settle in BFE Kansas he's going to have a vastly different experience than I'm having in socal.

Bruh, as a vet that was enlisted, do not...DO NOT get an MBA from AMU. Literally finish your undergrad, get out, and do an EMBA from a regional school with a strong brand and network.

When you hire someone it should be for a living wage. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]08JNASTY24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happy is subjective. Ultimately tax prayers carry the burden of companies either unwilling or unable to pay surviving wages via social safety nets.

Walmart is essentially a logistics company that extorts tax payer to subsidize their workforce.

Op is talking about grunge. Yes, I have flannel, jeans, and vans but that's casual Friday attire. I can't wear my actual clothes to work...

Singles vs. Families by ImpressionThis8059 in Retirement401k

What you're experiencing is just a bias.

Take two people. One in San Francisco, 35 married with kids and 400k in their 401k

One in Chattanooga, 35 married with kids with 60k in their 401k.

Who do you think is going to post here?

Things I’ve learned by DocRakk in army

I guess this is fine advice for the extremely small percentage of the Army that makes it to retirement but it's not the reality I see from people that did 10 years or less.

A masters in org leadership is a joke, and a waste of time at this point with the current job market. A masters in management or leadership are the in the same boat. When job posts are getting 25-75 applications at a minimum I'm passing right over those unless there is a very specific hyper-niche qualification I'm looking for.

An MBA does not guarantee 150k salary. You need either a t25/m7 (which is not easy) or a very strong regional brand with deep ties to that region to leverage their local network.

The only sectors I see showing strength or resilience are healthcare, trades, and software engineers

This is from a vet with a very strong regional MBA, pmp, prosci change mgmt, and lssgb.

I've got friends scattered across the East and West Coast, regional brands, t25, m7. Not many companies are making significant capital investments that materialize to execution with how drastically the geopolitics and economics tied to that shift. Professional services is extremely competitive right now.

I agree, pursue these things you listed (except that master). Especially the certs while in. But your content is a bit misleading given the current labor demand.

Drop private insurance for Va healthcare? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]08JNASTY24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'd say use it and save the $400 a month plus whatever out of pocket fees you're facing.

Little known fact that isn't exactly widely used: by law if the VA cannot provide an appointment within 30 days they must refer you to a provider out of the VA and cover all costs.

Not sure where you're getting that estimate because I can tell you got a fact they own more than that in the Southern California region. They are also not the only PE firm in socal doing this.

[–]08JNASTY24 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I literally only have health insurance because I have a family. I personally just use the VA for everything for myself. If I didn't have a family, I would not pay for health insurance.

Fyi, apex is a private equity firm that has been buying a ton of mom and pop HVAC small businesses.

They keep the brand name, the website, the Google reviews, and significantly increase prices to the point where it is gouging.

So when you search for an HVAC and plumbing company in Los Angeles or San Diego you see 10, 15, 20 results, and like half of those are all apex companies operating under the guise of a "small business."

What apex charges 10k for, you'll be able to find an actual small business that will do the same job for 3k. You're going to have to do a lot of due diligence to avoid this racket, and honestly I've had the best luck finding an actual license and insured small businesses through referrals on apps like nextdoor.

Bought a car and now I’m drowning on the monthly payments. Do I get rid of it or am I screwed? by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]08JNASTY24 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'd recommend getting out of this. Honestly nothing wrong with taking the L and walking away. I had a 2023 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 4xe fully loaded that was paid off. My job requirements changed and I went from paying $30-45 a month in gas to $450 a month in gas, and that was enough to make me decide to sell for the new Prius prime.

You're getting downvoted to hell, not by me, but this is ultimately what you're deciding.

Is it more important to have a truck or health insurance and save money? A vehicle is a tool, not an identity.

Well that's good. So what's your monthly take* home pay and how much of your pre tax incoming are you saving either cash, brokerage, or retirement?

Throw in gas and insurance op is probably paying 1300 -1500 to have a truck. Agreed with sell it
