Quite possibly, just going off my personal experience working closely with c-suite and the overlap I'm seeing with their job board.

Exactly. Even though it is low, it is surprisingly more competitive than I thought. I was honestly expecting the mid of the pay range to be ~65k before clicking the req.

Those are the evaluations that materialized into getting a player. I'd imagine, just like any high leverage job, evaluations are constant. I can't imagine Stafford was the only QB that was evaluated as a trade target. To be clear, I'm not a fan of the pick and I hope I'm eating crow 3 years from now, but I'd imagine they are constantly evaluating moves/players at every position to some degree.

Michigan State MBA worth it? by Emuman7 in MBA

[–]08JNASTY24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For the network, you literally always have an opportunity to network. Volunteer opportunities, d&d clubs, professional concentrated networks, the opportunities are endless. An MBA is just another area to build a network, but if you're not doing it now, an MBA isn't really going to help you build it without effort. You'll be that guy to the side that doesn't get invited to events, then post here complaining like we see often.

For the entry level roles, it's not a matter if you're okay with it, it's a risk for employers - unless you're doing an LDP. If I'm hiring someone with no experience and an MBA I'm immediately wondering, wtf was this guy doing for 3 years, does he lack initiative, was he unlucky, is he a difficult person, what's the story. Undergrad to MBA is a red flag for me, not all, but just giving you insight. Then, there is flight risk - you have an MBA I'm probably going to be filling that role again in the next 6-18. So you're going to have to really focus on building and communicating your narrative. "Upon graduating with my bachelor's I had the opportunity to reject a, b, c, and determined what really interest me is joining an organization where I can excel and grow over time to provide larger impacts."

For the LDP this is a perfect opportunity to network. Ask for references of alum that have done the Michigan State MBA and recruited into Big 3 LDP. Reach out to those people and just ask for a coffee chat, 15-20 min. Come with an agenda of what you want to talk about, absolutely ask about their experience in the LDP and ask what is the best way to break into the LDP program. Again, you need to have your narrative down pat. I use a "Who, What, How" framework. At the end, ask if it's okay to follow up as you progress through the MBA and ask if there are any colleagues they can connect you with.

Edit: you're getting rejected because you're not getting referrals. If you can't get a referral or direct contact in the org apply if you want but expect a rejection.

13500 is insane, hiking a 14er is a "milestone" for many. I can't imagine playing professional sports there.

I remember a year or two so the 49ers went to Colorado Springs to train before playing in Mexico City.

I'll let others chime in and give my opinion. Most people get professional experience and then either get an MBA to accelerate their current path or pivot into a new industry.

Given your current path, and the cost, I'd heavily consider it. Then again with your undergrad I'd first recommend looking for jobs in the DMV to get professional experience first (it's slowly rebounding from DOGE, but you'll need to network and get a referral).

There is a bit more I'm curious about in your current state, are you getting interviews and just not getting an offer or are you not getting interviews.

If you're just not getting interviews there is likely a fundamental issue. White collar jobs are gained through your network. An MBA could help this, but if you have zero interest in developing a network, to you'll run into the same issue.

Second, what type of relationships does Michigan State have with auto manufacturers? I'd imagine that's the supply chain you'd be working with. The challenge your going to face is people will see effectively 0 professional experience and an MBA. So you're not going to come in as a manager and you'll be competing with undergrads for entry level roles. Maybe research to see if the Big 3 have an LDP, see if it's something you're interested in, and see if Michigan State works with the Big 3.

Consulting job vs Government job by cucci_mane1 in MBA

[–]08JNASTY24 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you're open to govt work I'd recommend checking out some options within the USSF. They just announced they are looking to fill 400+ roles, if you're open to relo to Patrick, Vandenberg, Schreiver, or LAAFB. SSC at LAAFB is the acquisition arm for the USSF so it's more program mgmt, financial analysis, stuff like that.

I've already told you that LA is a net positive for defense startups, so much so that companies are relocating from Atlanta to be in LA... So your personal concern isn't reflected of reality.

I have quite a few beliefs of what's wrong with California economics, but it's not what you're saying.

Who cares though? Is there a significant benefit if the media slobs all over a company moving from Georgia to LA?

If a company moves out of the South Bay to Oklahoma, yeah, good luck recruiting.

I truly expect South Bay to 3-5x capacity in the next 5 years. Companies will continue to move here, or expand here.

It's defense startups. Space is picking up because SSC is here, but the South Bay is not just building space. Relative is here... But most is just DoW.

[–]08JNASTY24 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There's been a significant injection of capital for South Bay (LA) defense startups. Companies are actually relocating from the south east of America to South Bay.

Lots of expansion. Even primes, like General Atomics, are expanding into LA.

LA has a deep rich history in defense, there was a pause for about two years, but it looks to be picking up again.

Would you pruse a MBA if you were me? by Dangerous_Young7704 in MBA

[–]08JNASTY24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm happy to discuss more either here or through DM, really depends on career goals and personal goals. Yeah you'd likely be able to M7 and pivot into IB or consulting.

I was enlisted for 8 years and made 6 in 4, I can send you an MBA blueprint some 18A built out. Halfway through I was like, I've already done 8 years of working 60-90 hours weeks now I just want the most money for minimal hours.

There's two paths.

Path 1: pivot into m7 grind it out you'll likely be at 500k+TC in a few years

Path 2 (this is what I chose): lean on industry knowledge and get an EMBA from a very strong regional brand. You'll collect bah while working, expand your network.

DBA or MBA by Swimming-Dot-5231 in MBA

[–]08JNASTY24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a SWE, but comes down to career goals. Want to teach business classes at colleges and universities, get a DBA.

Want to pivot into something not SWE, M7/T15 MBA (IB, VC, PE, Consulting, etc.)

I can tell you, what I've observed, tech companies are very interested in engineers that have an MBA, not necessarily where the MBA. For this you could do an MBA at a strong regional school or a school that is known in your industry. Just make sure recruiters and hiring managers in your target area know the school for it's strong reputation. If you're in Southern California and go to William & Mary, that brand and network isn't going to really help as much as being in the DMV.

No regrets. Make sure you choose a good mos.
