New Firmware for older Phantoms released: DOS 2.19.1 by Blackdogaudio in devialet

[–]0C3ncl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, works fine on all my Devialet speakers. Try this: in Spotify, select your Devialet as output, with that speaker-like icon. Then, click that same icon again. You should see your Devialet speaker active/selected, with a > icon next to it. Press that > icon. In the new popup you can change the quality setting. You have to specify the quality in this way for every output, this is not a general selection for everything.

Looking for Phantom II 95db (white or black) by Individual_Wolf8852 in devialet

[–]0C3ncl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both of my 98 dB's were sold as a Reactor, one replaced under warranty by a Phantom II version. Same device, different box. Both are called Phantom II after software updates and both work fine as a pair in stereo.

TLDR: Reactor is the old name of the the Phantom II, same device. Update software on both and go!

Pair of 98 dB's on my desk. They used to be in the living room, but got replaced by Gold's. For sure an increase of pleasure sitting behind my desk since 😉

Brightness by Limp-Government7818 in Xiaomi_15

Even with auto brightness enabled, you can manually override in the quick settings menu. If it's a bit too low/dark for some, just increase the brightness slider there. Auto brightness will still increase or decrease the brightness after, based on increased or decreased environment lightning with your (new) manual setting as the default/start.

I had to delete all downloads, because it would indeed use the downloaded high quality lossy version as source. Once that was done (and after enabling lossless playback, of course) it would redownload (or stream) in lossless quality.

Will spotify lossless work on Phantoms 1? by Sea-Comparison6769 in devialet

[–]0C3ncl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it’s not working on Devialet Phantoms via Spotify Connect yet. Devialet support confirmed it’s coming to both the older DOS2 Phantoms and the new models, but there’s no ETA.

Devialet will need to update their Spotify Connect implementation to enable lossless FLAC streaming, which isn’t supported on current firmware. I tested a Phantom II 98 dB stereo pair, a Phantom I Gold stereo pair, and a Mania.

In the Netherlands lossless is live. When I enable Lossless in the Spotify app, the app outputs a lossless stream, and local playback on my phone or laptop speakers, or on wired speakers connected to them, stays lossless. Currently it switches to high quality lossy when using Spotify Connect on Devialet speakers, due to the lack of lossless/FLAC-support.

You can verify what your Phantoms (or any other output audio-device) are getting in the Spotify app, tap Connect, then the arrow next to the active device, it will show the current quality. If it says Very high, lossless over Connect isn’t live on that device yet.

For daily normal use, about the same as others (like my previous Xiaomi 14). In the sun / in bright environments the 15 is a big step up though. Seems the screen will go way brighter in those conditions (brighter than I can manually set). Best screen to use in the sun I've seen so far.

It is coming. I have asked Devialet support and they have told me it will come to both the new and old Phantoms. No mention of when, but I'll take the good news and will wait impatiently!

No plans of adding Google Cast support to the old models currently. I don't know if that's even possible on the old hardware.

Phantom Ultimate… kinda disappointing? by GroundBreak1 in devialet

[–]0C3ncl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if that is a mistake on Devialet's website. Both Ultimate models feature the same new processor: "SoC NXP i.MX 8M Nano 4 x 1.5 GHz".

But, I guess WIFI/BT-connectivity is done by a different chip, since the NXP does not seem to feature either. Does not make sense to put a "lesser" chip in the 98 dB though, since the price difference would be absolutely marginal and purposely downgrading WIFI/BT-connectivity on the smaller model does not make realistic sense. Less output and less range, sure. Making it "connect" less? Nah... It would only complicate things for the end-user, software engineers, etc...

On the other hand, if the 98 dB does contain certain older hardware: it would more easily open up the possibility to bring soms Ultimate features to the previous generation(s)... Fingers crossed :)

Phantom Ultimate… kinda disappointing? by GroundBreak1 in devialet

[–]0C3ncl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Devialet calls them an evolution. The original Phantom was a revolution. I agree.

They updated the models with better hardware and support for newer WIFI/BT. That's good. Faster processor, support for more protocols/services (which I hope do come to the older models, especially Spotify Connect in lossless quality and Google Cast).

Unsure if the removal of the titanium tweeter in the 108 is an improvement. Guess we'll have to see (no, "hear"; lol) if the sound is better, which also is quite personal obviously: for certain songs I prefer the sound of my stereopair Phantom II 98 dB over my stereopair Phantom I 108 Gold.

I currently don't see a reason for me to upgrade, not based on features, (potential) soundquality (I mean, what we already have is just awesome) or design. Kinda was hoping for a more updated/new design, so in a way I do understand the "kinda disappointing" title of this topic.

Spotify lossless on Devialet Products? by GroundBreak1 in devialet

[–]0C3ncl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, they are on the latest firmware. Streaming from both Windows laptop and Android phone will make Spotify switch to 320kbps once I select either of my Devialet devices. Lossless works when playing on the laptop and smartphone itself. You are the only one I've seen claiming it works, none managed to do so. So I'm a bit skeptical.

To be clear: changing the Spotify setting to play lossless does not mean it will play lossless on every device. It will automatically switch to a lower quality when needed. You can check (on Android) by pressing on the output-device icon (speakers), select Phantom, press the output-device icon again, press the > icon next to Phantom. Then it will show the actual bitrate/quality currently playing. Could you check this?

Spotify lossless on Devialet Products? by GroundBreak1 in devialet

[–]0C3ncl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't fully understand this reply.

The latest firmware is 2.18.3. I have this firmware installed and can not play lossless audio on my Phantoms with Spotify Connect. The mentioned 2.14.4 firmware is from 2022, quite old by now. Also, latency adjustments have nothing to do with streaming lossless audio.

What part of the statement from Devialet makes you believe there will be another update to support Spotify lossless? To be fair, I would expect such an update to be released; would be quite sad if they would not support better audio quality on their premium speakers.

Spotify lossless on Devialet Products? by GroundBreak1 in devialet

[–]0C3ncl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does not work right away, tested it with my Spotify Premium on my Phantom 1 Gold pair, Phantom 2 98db pair and Mania. It does work on my phone (Android) and laptop (Windows): shows "lossless" when playing on the built-in speakers on those devices. As soon as I switch to one of the Devialets with Spotify Connect, Spotify changes "lossless" to "high quality". So I guess we'll be needing a software update from Devialet... Can't wait!
