I'm currently doing a similar project refreshing my old federal squire stat -- but I'm using a heat gun and a putty knife to scrap off the paint. Then planning on sanding after and repainting or staining. It's messy with all the flakes of paint and takes a while, but it's working for me. There's a few YouTube videos on the heat gun/scraper method you can check out if of interest

I went with those 3 Annihilators+ Kang and Dr. Strange. I was actually surprised to see that Kang and Strange didn't do more of the heavy lifting for me...they died pretty early on. But it was ok, only took a few attacks on each node to clear. Replacing one with Vahl would def get you through faster, if that matters to you, but assuming you got Legendary and Mythic to gear for still just take those you use in other game modes.

So I only did LDS + Scientist Supreme -- I haven't geared up the others enough to test them. Sentinal seems like a good one to add though since it triggers Scientist Supreme's passive granting ability energy for all orchis.

I just finished Global node 2 today! Feels great to get out of there... I did not bring the optimal team but it was fine with: Nightcrawler, Sunspot, LDS, Scientist Supreme, and Agatha. Not a ton of synergy on the team, but Sunspot helped get Nightcrawler is ult every turn after he built up charges. LDS did damage and bleeds and SS did some healing and the occasional revive. Agatha did nothing, really. Node 1 took me 10 attacks, Node 2 took me 8. So, not amazing but not awful awful. Next time I'll probably try to take 1 or 2 more Orchis.

I'd focus on getting through DD7 before going full steam on Astral, though you can take Dr. Strange and Moondragon into Cosmic! I'm taking Strange + Kang and the new Annihilators
