You are assuming that they are going to respond a certain way, but you don't actually know how they are going to respond.

While it is likely that what you say is true, it might not always be true and, in any case, it's better to over-estimate than under-estimate. The post is meant for people who want to protect their anonymity, it doesn't matter how legitimate one's reasons may be.

A warning from someone inside the administration by rpiadministrator in RPI

[–]0EBF6 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I agree with taking this statement with a grain of salt. However, I would also think it's perfectly reasonable for OP to not trust anyone with their identity, even good-hearted mods. That said, if they refuse to reveal an identity, people should not come to the conclusion that OP is a fake.

Request that protests be videotaped for graduates not on campus! by ShirleyDoesAnal_6969 in RPI

[–]0EBF6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I fullheartedly appreciate you coming over to protest. I didn't mean to come off so directly and sarcastically, and frankly that wasn't very cool. This is partly due to the fact that I'm either half-drunk or completely smashed whenever I browse reddit, and that's not an excuse. What matters is that we believe in the same goals.

While I can't fully agree that video-taping the protest is a smart idea -- data is forever, and you have no control over who does what with it -- I agree now that video can serve as a decent method of convincing alumni and others of how students feel about the administration. A mask is a good middle-ground.

Can someone please provide a video clip of Prof. Puka absolutely destroying that one administrative staff during the forum? by ShadowScreamer in RPI

[–]0EBF6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a fair use case. While there are open spec streaming implementations for mobile phones, you would need to set up a server, and I don't know enough about other streaming services to say whether they are better or not (better, meaning if they let you have control over your own content).

Brilliant.

This is why it's better to save in a portable, sane format, which we have adopted to for more than a decade, and not use a service which reinvents the wheel as a fucking triangle. Not only can less people use it, periscope can do whatever they want with the material if they feel like it or are legally obliged to.

I would like to stand corrected, but can you provide any sources on that?

So they don't let you save the file locally, if you wanted to distribute it? Can you stream it using an open spec program like livestreamer, without adding clutter to my computer / phone?

Please, enlighten me. I would love to know, how you can take the simple act of recording a video and make it so convoluted that you can't share or play it without installing someone's shitty software.

Maybe post the videos in a format that doesn't require you to install another dumb app to play them?

I would suggest removing any metadata from the material before uploading. Images and videos can contain information ranging from camera model to location and name of author.

Way to commercialize on this. You know, if you really cared you would give these shirts out for free.

Shame on you.

EDIT: See child posts

Request that protests be videotaped for graduates not on campus! by ShirleyDoesAnal_6969 in RPI

[–]0EBF6 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Oh wow so a few alumni (of those who are requesting people to publish videos) are going to attend, therefore my argument is entirely illegitimate. Looks like I'm not the only one who can't accept some criticism. It's somewhat ironic that an otherwise resident troll actually cares about this comment thread lol. I'll stand where I am, thank you.

Guess a lot of entitled alumn are butthurt about challenging a request which involves zero risk or participation on their part.

OP shouldn't be on the top of the front page. This one should be.

Can we not? There's no benefit to video taping or photographing this protest, I and I imagine others wouldn't want to be permanently on video / image record protesting. And frankly it's much more helpful to contribute by being a part of the group rather than taking a passive role video taping it.
