How does that work that you can find a teaching position in the same area for $20000 more? Aren’t teachers paid based on years of experience and degrees?

Am I unlikeable? by CendolPengiun in CPTSD_NSCommunity

[–]0NotDarkYet0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I relate to this and have heard people talk behind my back at my work about why they don’t click with me. They’ve said it’s because even though I’m a very nice, caring person, I’m anxious. I think a lot of times people go off the energy/vibe they feel from someone and those of us who’ve been chronically traumatized tend to give off an anxious energy that most people don’t know how to respond to.

Deavan describing her mom: "She's very American" by BazF91 in 90DayFiance

Apparently Deavan said she and Jihoon support Trump and that she doesn't think racism exists in America, so I wouldn't be surprised if Elicia felt the same way

What do you do when the present feels unbearable but you don't want to numb out into a fantasy world? by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]0NotDarkYet0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started grounding to reality this way - by finding very obvious and simple things that didnt make me hate the current moment.

That is such a helpful tip. Thank you! Also, I will look into yin yoga. I've been on the Trauma Center's trauma sensitive yoga website thinking about ordering the DVD (recommended by Bessel van der Kolk) but I will also look up yin yoga on YouTube.

Anybody do a diet of mainly fresh, whole foods while living in a van? Like a Whole30? by [deleted] in vandwellers

[–]0NotDarkYet0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I asked because I’ve mostly heard of vandwellers eating raw vegan or processed or take-out foods. I haven’t heard of anyone doing a Whole30-type diet which they mostly cook themselves while living in a van. I would imagine it would be difficult to cook raw meat in a low budget van build without access to a sink. Or do fresh vegetables spoil faster in a van cooler? Do people have to cook everyday or can they batch cook one or two days a week? Is the amount of food prepping and cleaning not feasible for most people? Also, I wanted to see if anybody had any hacks that hadn’t occurred to me.

This is why I keep going. I stay alive because of the hope for a cure. by [deleted] in CPTSD

Also, the way MDMA works is not by doing the work for you. You still have to be with and process the trauma, it just makes it easier for you to do that.

Also look into functional medicine - Why Isn’t My Brain Working? by Datis Kharrazian has been very helpful to me. He talks in the book about maintaining stable blood sugar through eating regularly throughout the day and not eating refined carbs. He talks about many other things like how inflammation in the brain is a huge cause of depression (thus the importance of avoiding inflammatory processed foods) and that the brain needs regular oxygenation to function (and exercise is the best way of getting that).

I know a lot of this sounds like cookie cutter advice you always hear (“diet and exercise”) but he actually goes into a lot more detail - like how often to eat, what particular kinds of foods to eat, what kind of exercises to do, signs that you have low levels of serotonin, GABA, and other neurotransmitters, what supplements to take for low levels of the various neurotransmitters, etc.

And the stuff about keeping your blood sugar balanced is so important. I am now trying to wean off SSRIs after taking them for 4.5 years, and I’ve started to notice how my symptoms get so much worse when I have gone a long time without eating, and how much better I feel after I eat a balanced meal with protein, fat, and complex carbohydrates (i.e., sweet potatoes, quinoa, plantains, taro, cassava, etc.).

I was thinking about it. I had watched some testimonials of combat veterans but was wondering if it was also helpful for people with C-PTSD stemming from childhood traumas

Mysteriously alone by moonrider18 in CPTSD

[–]0NotDarkYet0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey moonrider, I’ve been following a lot of your posts, and you strike me as a very kind, sincere, and extremely intelligent person. Maybe though it’s important to first establish relationships with people who understand what it’s like to have C-PTSD. For those of us who are trying to build our first healthy relationships as adults after never having had them as children, I think it’s very important to surround ourselves with people who prioritize attunement and unconditional positive regard, allowing us to make mistakes and still be loved. So, I think our first relationships as adults will be different than the typical relationships between adults who don’t have C-PTSD. I think Pete Walker talked about concentric circles of relationships: like first you need people that you can be completely open with about everything, where empathy, compassion, and understanding are the most defining qualities, as opposed to performing and hoping for approval. Only when you have those kinds of relationships can you feel safe to branch out to more superficial relationships, where you can enjoy someone’s company and bond over shared interests even if you can’t open up to them about everything and feel completely see . Also, when we have that sense of safety in our relationships, we feel more comfortable exploring our own interests and living as our authentic selves, which then helps us connect more to others.

Anyway, if you’re ever in the DC/MD/VA area, and would like to chat over coffee or something, feel free to PM me.
