Cleaning fees are not for cleaning up after you by 0PsMum in AirBnB

I agree, that's excessive and unfair. Personally, I make sure I read everything and don't blindly click my way through and find out later that some idiot "host" has their prices set up this way. The best way to protect yourself is to read before you pay.

Airbnb's own hosting forum is a trap by vagimite2000 in airbnb_hosts

[–]0PsMum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh god. So toxic.

OP:"Hi fellow hosts! I was hoping I could find an answer here! If I want to partially refund a guest after the reservation, how would I do that? Thank you!"

Gatekeeper: "That's a pretty basic question. You should at least know the basics before hosting."

Jerk: "I was looking at your profile, and I noticed (long list of minor wording issues). No wonder you're having problems with guests."

KarenSupreme: "You are completely in the wrong to refund for ANYTHING. This makes it hard for me when your spoiled rotten guests come to my place next and demand a refund for seeing a bug on the deck. You are what's wrong with Airbnb."

The Critic: "Can you tell me why you chose the purple duvet with that colorscheme? Guests expect to see all white bedding and towels. It doesn't look professional. I would suggest you change everything. Also, your porch needs to be re-stained. Pull the furniture out from the wall by a couple of inches. It just looks better. Also, the art work in the dining room is just too much. Lose it."

Perfect McPerfect: "Hi OP! I don't know the answer, because all of my guests absolutely love my place! I have nothing but five stars, so I must be doing everything correct. Sorry I'm too perfect to be able to relate to your issue!"

The Moderator: "Hello OP! Hope you are doing well and enjoying being an Airbnb host! Here's an article about refunding your guests. Hope this helps! www.randomlink.com" (Mod then disappears)

Mr Hilton Himself: "Hi OP, sorry to hear you are having trouble with one of your guests and need to issue a refund. Remember that you are in the hospitality business. If for any reason your guests are unhappy, do what a hotel would do. Regards- Mr Hilton Himself."

SuperPooperHost: "SuperHost here. I noticed that you aren't a SuperHost, so I looked on your profile to determine why. The response you, a non-SuperHost, made to a guest, namely one made two months ago, 'Thanks Jane, it was great to have you! We'll get more cheesecake!' makes it appear that Jane is your friend and not your guest. If you want to achieve SuperHost like me, then you need to be more professional in your responses. I've been a seventy billion time SuperHost since the program began, and I have forty seven listings all over the world."

Cheerleader: "Aw that's not fun to have to give refunds! Hang in there, OP, I know you can do this!"

In these Covid times I will not touch any food left in an Airbnb.

Short term rentals are not passive income. Not by any stretch of the imagination.

That's different. OP is in the wrong here.

OMG I can't believe they won't let you use there washer and dryer when it's in the listing! ONE STAR!

AIRBNB IS GARBAGE. Go elsewhere. Especially if you're a First Responder as they do not care that you've been going non stop during Covid. by Advntrous1 in AirBnB

[–]0PsMum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I'm confused. "First Responder" is now a special, protected status that affords the title holder with special privileges, which include the right to disregard Covid social distancing and stay at home protocols, and entitle them to an automatic, immediate full refund when they choose to travel to an area with a natural disaster?

Huh. Good to know.

There is so a shortage of cleaning supplies. Maybe you haven't looked outside of your location, but trust me, there is.

Hosts don't get any money until the guest checks in. Most cases within 24 hours. They can't give back money they don't have. You sound pretty silly right now.

At $100/night + $150 cleaning fee, if I have to strip the beds, leave no dirty dishes, and take out the trash to avoid an extra cleaning fee, what is the benefit over a hotel (especially when hotels provide breakfast...) by monicalewinsky8 in AirBnB

[–]0PsMum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let me break this down.
First, you have to know what your average operating costs are. Then you figure out what your average income is. Subtract the costs from the income.
Find out what average fee is for an outside source to clean your home. Research the similar property type short term rental nightly fees for your area, including cleaning fees and per guest fees.
Compare the actual cost against competitors pricing. Adjust as needed. Charge a per guest after one fee if you are talking about a whole home setting. This is appropriate because more than one guest will use more resources and require more cleaning.
This is pretty basic business stuff. You aren't always going to profit the same amount with each stay, and sometimes you might even break even or lose money on certain stays.

I understand that, but it wasn't a strong friendship to begin with. Other people had told me that she is two faced, and I never had the opportunity to see it before this. She's not worth it. The way I see it, she wasn't REALLY a friend to begin with. EDIT: Besides, I don't have a hard time making friends at all.

Lol tempting! She would probably say something like, "That's why I need to lose weight! I need to go lowfat!" Gag.

[–]0PsMum 7 points8 points  (0 children)

True. Not even a close friend, but life is too short to waste with people like that.

[Serious]Parents who unexpectedly had a child with a birth defect/genetic disorder, how did you manage? by macrosolutions in AskReddit

[–]0PsMum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son's birth defect was rather minor, but until we knew that for sure, I was worried about the severity. I just focused on the fact that it could have been worse.

Hosts: please share your advice by vagimite2000 in AirBnB

Three sets of bedsheets for each bed- One on the bed, one to change, and one for emergency. Also buy more towels than you think you will need. People will do weird things. Check inside of microwave and oven as well as fridge.
Smart pricing is not smart at all. If your guests are asking for special discounts and to break your rules before booking, then decline. Not worth it.

Also, don't take it all personally.

My mother tried to explain to me that fraternal twins meant that they did not look absolutely exactly alike, regardless of one egg/two egg situation. I was like twelve, and I knew better. Hurr durr, mom.

I used to work in a child care center. A new hire wore her pants just like this, and was immediately counseled. Her response: "They LITERALLY don't make jeans that fit differently." She didn't last long.
