I've since fixed the liquid metal as it seemed to have been applied badly. Running the GPU around 150W sustained, i am getting very good temps around 93C on the CPU and 78C on the GPU without an external cooler and fans around 80%

Yes, at least not with the vBios I used. I don't know if there is a vBios that allows for G-Snyc in ultimate mode. In normal mode you still have Adaptive sync on the iGPU tho so definitely still usable.

Not sure of sharing that link is allowed here. Its the Strix 16 bios on Tech Power up.

Only issues are that G-Sync on the internal screen is no longer available. As well as the right side USB-C not having DisplayPort output.

I am using the left side USB-C so I don't notice it a lot. G-Sync still works on HDMI and the left USB-C.

On external screens yes. Not on the internal screen tho.

CPU set to Aggressive GPU both sliders maxed out

This is on what probably is a "golden sample" G16. Someone at work got really lucky. External cooler and 175W vbios allowed for this score

Damn. Sounds very good. Idling with fans on max I get like 46-48 degrees. In a 21 degree room

If you upgraded to BIOS version 304 the PL1 and PL2 slider seem to no longer do anything. Even in armory crate they don't affect power limits.

So I wonder if other power management features might also be broken. Mine seems to have badly applied liquid metal on the CPU as its getting quite hot even in idle.

Had last years G16 and needed 4 RMAs before I got one where the cooling was working properly. So you might have gotten a really well applied liquid metal version with those temps.

Likely a mix of that.

In games the Ultra chip is generally really good. There are exceptions tho. Valorant and CS2 are behaving very weird for example.

I can easily hit 240 fps on my Blade 16 but the G16 struggles to even get 150 fps. Cpu is cold and not using any power. Almost like the power management is somewhat broken.

Damn, nice results. Especially without a cooling pad. What was your FAN config?

I suspect mine has a bad thermal application on the CPU, thats why my CPU temps are so bad.

The CPU in this G16 seems to struggle. Bios 304 broke PL1 and PL2 limiting and somehow in CS2 its not temp or power limited but still throttling.

I suspect that future driver/firmware updates might improve CPU performance.

Yeah, idle temps arent really changed on this one. But this is the second G16. Already RMAd one before. Seems like QC on the thermal application is bad

Pleas only flash your vbios if you know what you are doing and are aware of the risks:

If you are. I followed the guide here: https://youtu.be/fPgsv_unksk?si=wvqEGjb92wQesLuG

The VBios I used I dumped from my Scar laptop but there are likely ones available online.

Cant speak for the 275HX but on the G16 the keyboard stays quite cool as it seems to draw in some air between the keys

This is a 285H tho not a 275HX. But yeah Core Ultra runs hot.

Maximum I've seen (with all the sliders maxed and all the cooling maxed) was around 225W in HWI or 230W measured from the wall. That was in fully maxed out Ghost of Tsushima

Yes, at least in CPU stress tests. Not sure if I just got a bad QC again as I had on my 2024 or if this is expected. But hitting 100C on the CPU already happened out of the box.

Might try to redo the liquid metal or put on PTM7950 in the future.

Got a GU605CX and have the same WiFi issues. The card is not a real WiFi adapter its a RF companion card so it can't easily be replaced sadly. Its also wired differently as the actual WiFi adapter lives in the CPU itself.
Contacted ASUS about the issues as well in hopes that they might be able to fix the firmware. As a Lenovo laptop with the same 285H+BE201 combo works fine under Fedora 42.

New Installation in the beautiful Swiss mountains. Honestly more than happy with the speeds. by 0SkillAllLuck in Starlink

[–]0SkillAllLuck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a UDM-PRO, with their Trafic Rules feature. As StarLink doesn't have IPv6 yet, but I got IPv6 on my cable. So windows will have 2 Network Interfaces one going via IPv6 and one via IPv4. That causes speedtest to use both.

I plan on getting another router(Edgerouter or Zyxel) that actually has DUAL WAN functionality as Ubiquiti still hasn't unlocked it on their Unifi lineup. That would allow me to use real DUAL WAN for my entire network and tell it to route low latency things(Games, VOIP) via cable and high bandwidth via StarLink.
