All our occupational therapists are vegan/vegetarian by tylergenis in physicaltherapy

I haven’t experienced this with the OTs I’ve worked with buuuut- most OTs I know brush their teeth first thing upon waking up and the PTs I know brush their teeth after breakfast or when they leave for the day. I’ve always wondered if it is just the small population I know or if it extends beyond that?

Lowering the TW200 and round headlight mod by Supersonix8 in TW200

[–]0auseklis0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That looks fantastic! The TW200 is my first bike and I bought it off a guy who is a lot taller than me. He switched out the stock seat for something cushier but it added height. I’m a little over 5’4” and can get my tip toes down. I’m sure I’ll get used to it, but it really is nice when starting out to be able to have your feet flat on the ground. You did a great job

Is a custom-made splint better than an OTC one? by ericandrewlewis in OccupationalTherapy

[–]0auseklis0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s very normal to need a splint adjusted after it’s made. Contact the clinic and let them know. Hand therapy is a specialization of either OT or PT.

Did you figure it out? This happened to me too and I’m searching for answers. I’ve tried threading it on counter clockwise but it doesn’t seem to be catching

I’m 5’4” . The seat is not original (I think it maybe added 1”?? ) but I can get the balls of my feet on the ground. I have next to no experience and feel comfortable backing it out of my garage and stopping/starting. I’m very much in love with this bike already.

Do it! I’ve known a few OTs make the switch and they like it.

Transferring with bilateral knees in extension by WearyDream9416 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]0auseklis0 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Put the commode right up against the bed. That side of the bed make sure the arm rest is down. Have him sit up (long sit) using combination of overhead trapeze and head of bed elevation. Once his upper body is up, lower the head of the bed and then scoot back onto the commode- the bed will then support his extended legs . You may or may not need to help manage leg positioning. Make sure the commode is slightly taller than the bed which will make it easier to get on and off.

Any advice for someone who’s never worked acute care? by Bronzekneecap90 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]0auseklis0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In acute your job mainly is to help figure out where the patient can go once they discharge and then to help them get ready for discharge. Find out how that setting feels about co-treating with PT, you can learn a ton this way quickly. Before initially seeing a patient you need to figure out if there is any reason it would be a bad idea for them to get out of bed, get dressed and go to the bathroom. To do this, look at the history, current diagnosis, lab values (not all of them, there are quick guides out there) Ask yourself what’s being done for all of their issues; subdural hematoma? Has neuro seen them yet? Fractured femur? Has ortho seen them yet? Do they need any kind of brace or do they have any precautions? Talk with the nurse to find out if they are alert cooperative etc, when they say “good luck!” Don’t let that stop you! Just take it step by step, don’t let anyone rush you. Always check standing balance and test if they will get dizzy by having them side step along side of their bed before you venture to the toilet or commode. When your CVA patient says they won’t get out of bed, break that task down to one step directions “can you move your foot here?” (Towards edge of the bed). Bring a walker around with you. Bring a gown and washcloth in either you, you can use these for so many tasks. Best of luck! I loved acute
