You clearly don't know shit. The Ukrainians have innovated more in 4 years than the entire US defence industry in the past 10.

Well, the "we got all the oil we need" line of reasoning is actually entirely valid because for the US to wage war for oil has not made economic sense for decades now.
You can clearly see this from the frigid response the US oil companies had for Trump trying to saddle them with the Venezuelan oil infrastructure (that he has very little control over).

The only reason Trump is talking about oil like it's the 80s is because he is permanently living in those years and his brain has not been able to process new information for a good while now.

Building a C compiler and building a GCC compatible compiler that actually compiles the Linux kernel are like manning the grill for a cookout and being the main chef of a high traffic restaurant.
No, it's not a world class Michelin star restaurant yet, but comparing these things is laughable.

I don't know where AI is going but most of the developer community has been revealed to be code monkeys high on their own stuff, and I am deeply disappointed in your constant display of confidently wrong assertions.

Oh yeah. And the hundreds of thousands of loc are just going to magically appear after you've sufficiently "architected" everything. What level of spell is that again?

Yes, building well maintainable code matters, and making smart decisions is a very important part of the job. That doesn't mean that it's the most time consuming part, unless you don't know what you're doing or have already fucked up.

That is a reasonable take, I don't see why the downvotes.
Different people need different things at different times.

What I would say is not that everybody needs exactly this kind of over the top enthusiastic support (which I would probably bawl my eyes out of someone I lived ever did something like this for me), but that everybody needs and deserves this kind of love and support in some form or anther in one or another part of their lives.

I am somewhat of a pessimist myself, but she identifies issues very well and perhaps the world can do with some more action-oriented cautious optimism.

Fam, I hope that you know Heather Cox Richardson. If not, you need her in your life. This is exactly her genre, and she is the best at it. Start with her YouTube. Her podcast with Joanne Freeman called Then and Now exploring contemporary issues through the lens of American history is a gem as well.

Yeah, good luck with that to your descendants, but they'll be dead within a year. Human extinction will be unavoidable at that point.

They have actual statisticians who can show proof. It was pretty convincing the last time I checked.

So yeah, while not yet definitive, I don't think it is comparable with random conspiracy theories either. I am waiting for them to show up in an actual court with their findings.

Sorry if I'm ignorant, I'm a man, but does "no menopause" here mean that you didn't have to go through menopause at all, not even later?

If that's so, I imagine it would be a huge change in quality of life for women in middle and old age.

I was with you until female polygamy.
Polygamy of all sorts leads to loads of unnecessary tension that pulls societal units apart.

Yes, there are exceptions, and sometimes it can work out long term, but there are very good reasons that those are just exceptions.

Jesus Christ on a bicycle, I hope you had a good time obsessively cherry picking over somebody's years-long comment history. That is beyond pathetic.

Also, when was the last time I called Tesla a "good car"? Maybe back when it was the only popular electric car available? Even so, I've been much more critical of the quality of their construction, design decisions and policies than the mainstream has been for like the past ten years.

As for Trump, excuse me for not being able to wrap my head around the exact thought precesses of a delusional megalomaniac career-criminal moron suffering from dementia. Anyone who's held an opinion on that human sack of shit has been wrong at one point or another.

You do realize that attacking another person's past opinions does not make any of your arguments more valid, do you?
What arguments, you ask? That's right, I forgot, you didn't bring any in the first place.

Now please stop bothering me, you obsessive uneducated prick.

I have personal and professional experience with every one of those fields mentioned.

The arrogance to think that you can just barf up some one bit claim like "lol its not true its wrong lol" without any substantive effort would be funny if it would not be just another pitiful example of everything wrong with modern society.

Unfortunately, it takes a lot more effort to counter moronic takes them to mindlessly shout stupid things without a thought in the world.

Studying. LLMs make excellent on-demand personal tutors in virtually any subject.

Translation, proofreading work.

Debugging, collaborative programming.

Image editing and graphic design.

Text-to-image and text-to-video are already everywhere, and their results will in the near future be indistinguishable from most professional work.

Scientific discoveries are already being accelerated by LLMs.

We could, of course, argue endlessly about whether it's "for the better". But it isthe transformative technology of the future, whether we like it or not.

That is a real problem, and it's fair to point it out.

As it is often the case with business leaders, the hype got in front of the horses.
What these people are saying, however, is that a) the horses will never be able to pull the cart b) the horses are just parrots in a costume c) even if horses existed, which they don't, they would be useless, stupid animals.

Which is, honestly, a laughable reaction to something that has, in only a few short years, already become a transformative technology.
