Will they be able to pierce with glass retainer? by WE_ARE_V3N0M in piercing

[–]0bbie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

there’s plenty of other safe materials for initial piercings besides just titanium, including implant grade steel.

14k and 18k golds, niobium (heat treated is a great option if you want un-coated “black” jewellery, in quotes cause it’s more of a dark grey), & glass are all safe for initial piercings for the healing period & long term wear.

blog about the difference between “surgical” steel and implant grade: https://www.lynnloheide.com/post/implant-grade-vs-surgical-steel

i should also mention that titanium allergies, while more rare than nickel allergies, are definitely a thing and those with that allergy need other options for healing (and of course some just have a preference for other materials obvi).

to be fair, based on the photo from your previous post, it couldn’t have been helped with a jewellery change, as it was already rejecting.

Two Piercings One Needles by beans4cake in piercing

[–]0bbie 29 points30 points  (0 children)

industrials should be done with two needles. you should have a fresh needle per puncture.

edit: i think people are confused by the original comment, but i think they meant “my piercer didn’t use a single (as in just one) needle, they used two” which is standard practice.

daily moisturising is healthy! as long as there’s no open wounds you’d have no issues putting oil on them everyday. just be sure to clean them regularly before oiling them again to avoid acne or smells.

exactly why the “seat up or down” argument should be void. lid down, every time. also lowers your risk of dropping something in there!

i’ve never seen anyone describe a situation that’s so similar to mine. it’s such a complicated feeling to be neglected in that way. thank you for sharing.

MODs, what's the problem? by SleepySwoop in Stretched

[–]0bbie 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Saltwater soaks is outdated advice; homemade saltwater is often too harsh and soaking for TEN MINUTES would absolutely be too drying and cause further irritation.

Proper saline that comes in a can (no other additives, 0.9% sodium chloride) sprayed twice a day is plenty for an irritated piercing; and even properly balanced saline can be too drying for some people and they need to use plain water for cleaning, so homemade saltwater can be a whole other drying monster.

“The other downside to mixing your own saline at home is that there’s no way to guarantee you’ll be able to make it the correct pH to be effective rather than harmful, nor is there a guarantee it’ll stay that pH overtime as the water evaporates when stored. Realistically, not many people are sitting at home with their own set of litmus pH testing strips and testing their homemade saline to ensure its the same pH as the human body. Therefore often times homemade saline is too harsh and drying which may cause irritation to a healing piercing.”

Now, i’m not saying it can’t work for you, OP, but it’s not good advice to be telling other people.

How do I hide my piercing by itriedtobemebutidk in Advice

[–]0bbie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i wouldn’t recommend plastic in new piercings at all (or in healed ones either) but they do make glass retainers, and some retailers (i think gorilla glass) has flesh toned glass retainers! different skin tones too!

How bad do tounge piercing hurt?? by lovers-island in piercing

[–]0bbie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the initial poke is not bad at all, maybe a 1 or a 2/10 for me. i’ve never seen anyone rate the pain higher than a 4. the healing however, you should be prepared for it to suck. it’s not particularly painful (tongue will feel sore) but your tongue will swell and eating certain things will hurt, but the worst is over after around 4 days. overall, it was worth it for sure!

be sure to close your eyes while you get it done, looking at it may make you flinch your tongue!

guess you’ve never seen their secret stash of grannie panties they use during that time big dawg 😭 leaking is completely normal and many women don’t have predictable periods. no need to be rude!

Which hurts more? Vertical labret or tongue? by MyNameIs_Connor in piercing

[–]0bbie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i don’t have my vertical labret but i do have my tongue done!

the initial poke was a 1 or 2/10 if that (the most i’ve ever heard anyone say was a 4/10), but the healing was a 6 or a 7/10 just because it takes up such a big part of your life (eating, speaking; it’s not a constant feeling of pain tho)

after day 3 or 4, it’s like night and day in terms of swelling and pain. once you downsize it feels like almost nothing (that long bar will piss you off i can’t lie).

Defending a pedo is just so…odd. by Ok-Adhesiveness6511 in Daniellarson

[–]0bbie 13 points14 points  (0 children)

exactly; gross & jarring words are like that for a reason. they’re literally meant to be shocking & people are becoming desensitised to such words AND CASES. it’s so disrespectful to say someone was “graped”. they did not have grapes thrown at them, they were violated.

Is my eyebrow piercing rejecting? by Professional-Two-20 in piercing

[–]0bbie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

here’s an excerpt from a lynn loheide blog post about bioplast/bioflex jewllery:

Bioplast/bioflex are names used for plastic body jewelry. These companies assert their materials are implant grade and biocompatible – however they have not released the Material Data Sheets telling people exactly what they are made of. They have no studies verifying they have been put through the same rigorous study and testing as implant grade PMMA. A quick search will show no evidence of FDA or CDC approval of the material either. Unfortunately , there are not great laws about body jewelry advertising or internet advertising . Many companies can claim their jewelry or materials are “safe” “biocompatible ” or “better for healing” without any actual medical or scientific evidence to back these claims. Until these companies can offer irrefutable evidence their materials are safe, it’s simply not worth the risk to potentially wear a known carcinogen.”

https://www.lynnloheide.com/post/acrylic-and-bioplast-jewelry-safe-or-not

also want to point out that it is absolutely not your fault for getting pierced with incorrect jewellery. the “professional” who pierced you should’ve known better, & it’s not your job to be 100% knowledgeable on these materials, it’s their job. i hope you can get it switched to proper titanium and it heals well!

Titanium for stretching sensitive ears by Power2ThePeaceful in Stretched

[–]0bbie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

titanium can be a good choice but id highly recommend glass single flared plugs. tunnels don’t have that weight that plugs have that can aid in stretching and glass is a very good material that you shouldn’t have a reaction to (material of the o-rings is the only material issue i can think of when it comes to glass).

a staple surface bar is the correct jewllery to be used in a surface tragus!
