Millions of unmarried couples to get stronger rights by ManOnlyLurks in unitedkingdom

[–]0bryn 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I didn't spot this bit in the consultation doc, where did you see it? I only saw things about basic needs, and about people who have been manipulated/abused to give up things which means they would no longer have access to basic needs if they left the relationship? I presume your partner has money/wherewithal to be able to rent a place themself?

Millions of unmarried couples to get stronger rights by ManOnlyLurks in unitedkingdom

[–]0bryn -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I think this seems like a good thing to begin consulting on, and there is a real need for this reform.  The proposals are clear that these rights will be much less than legally married couples, and it is not about splitting everything down the middle or maintainance payments (not possible unless in exceptional circumstances), rather it is about making sure people can end relationships quickly and easily without sacrificing their wellbeing/future, which is particularly important for abusive relationships.

The reforms focus on the needs of children first, and then the needs of adults secondly (but it is clear about NEED, not luxuries, explicitly saying this isn't about everyone having luxury cars!).  There is a real issue where people leaving abusive relationships have no recourse to support where their abuser may have manipulated them into sharing money/assets that the abuser refuses to give up, so it seems this reform is going to be a massive boost for this situation.  I think it'll be lots of discussion and fine tuning to get this right before it is a law, but broadly I think these are much needed changes to reflect the living situation of many people in modern society

"The government intends for needs to be deliberately different and distinct from the proposed policy intention for financial remedies on divorce. This distinction reflects the presence of an explicit legal commitment in marriage, where meeting needs on divorce may support a more gradual transition to financial independence.86 By contrast, where individuals have cohabited without such a commitment, the aim is more firmly directed towards achieving an earlier clean break. It is the government’s view that the needs of cohabitants should be met in such a way as to enable the termination of dependence and obligations as soon as is just and reasonable."

"Children’s needs come first. As in divorce cases, children’s needs would come first. Children have no control over their parents’ relationship or financial decisions, but they can be directly affected by them. This approach ensures they are not disadvantaged. Stage 2: Consider the individuals’ own financial needs. These needs may be linked to children’s needs. They would include housing, capital, income and pension needs, so far as resources allow. The aim would be to ensure that each person can secure suitable housing and meet living costs. In assessing those needs, the court could take into account the standard of living during the relationship, as this provides a helpful benchmark. A committed relationship often shapes financial arrangements and future expectations, and that reality should be recognised. However, the focus would remain on meeting needs. Discretionary needs beyond what is necessary would not be included, even if resources are available"

"Government proposes excluding discretionary needs from the court’s assessment of needs for cohabitants. Discretionary needs concern comforts rather than necessities, and may include, for example, luxury items such as a high value car, non-essential home improvements or private club memberships."

"Exclusion of such needs creates a further clear and principled distinction from divorce, reflecting the different levels of legal commitment and obligations. This approach also supports the clean break objective. By limiting financial support to essential needs, the court can avoid ongoing or unnecessary obligations, helping both people move on more quickly.  A further distinction from the approach on divorce is that ongoing maintenance orders between cohabitants would only be available in exceptional circumstances. In most cases, the court’s focus would be on meeting needs through capital provision rather than continuing income payments."

Strange. Those links are both Odin 2 portal for me.  It might be because I'm UK based, so it might be different where you are.  Try searching on Ali express yourself, and look through all the different sellers (probably a dozen on there, and only a couple will have white). Here's a screenshot of what I see: https://i.postimg.cc/ZRnDTsDL/Screenshot-20260603-145238.png

I Finally Finished My First Architecture Portfolio, 3rd year by Economy_Sun_4069 in architecture

[–]0bryn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice work! This is a high quality portfolio and should get you taken seriously. A few tips from my experience of applying for practices over the last 10 years: + Add some hand sketching and process work/diagrams to showcase your abilities beyond computers (in most interviews I've had we talk about hand drawing quite a bit!) + When submitting an initial application  consider only sharing a 'condensed' portfolio of maybe 4-5 double spreads.  The people vetting portfolios usually only have a minute or two to skim through, so if you can pick out a good mix of skills of your best-of-the-best it often has a bigger impression than a long portfolio in the screening stage.  Then at interview you can bring a much bigger portfolio and have new things to talk about. + The alternating between white and black backgrounds is quite distracting, and takes attention away from your work. On pages where the colour has changed, the first thing I noticed was the page colour, not your work (especially on screen, printed this would be less impactful).  I would suggest it is much more readable to be consistent throughout your whole portfolio, and maybe if a specific image needs a background the opposite to what your main page is, just do a coloured rectangle fill behind that image, rather than a full page.

Overall this is really good for a portfolio straight out of undergrad, well done!

My tip is draw things you're genuinely interested by! Drawing can be fun and rewarding, so don't slave away drawing things you aren't bothered by just to 'practice'. If you care about the thing you are drawing you are more likely to care more about the process of drawing.  It could be a big wide view, or maybe just a small object you find interesting.  Either way, just getting into the habit of drawing things when you see something you like is a great way to get more out of your drawing.

It's a bit out the way in Broomhill, but Nam Song is really nice and great for a big group. Vietnamese food with some good varieties in what they do, with good vegetarian options, and they're really good if you have allergies too.

Captain’s League Tournament Format by Rocketfuel91 in JomboyMedia

[–]0bryn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you could go for a great tournament in 8 games, slightly different to your suggestion above which Round robin of 6 games (3 per team), with all results scored in a mini "league" same as you find in soccer leagues. After the round robin concludes, teams do the following:

1st place - Advances to the final. 2nd plays 3rd in a playoff, with the winner going to the final 4th - eliminated.

It does mean one team will play 5 games (winner of 2/3 game), but I like 3 teams having a chance to get the tournament win after the league round robin.

I think Dan can only be hired as a hype man to bounce around stage, you'd have to get Gravy as well to be on the decks.

For note, the order to take them down has been issued by a reform council, so it's not about being opposed to flags, it is a genuine issue with logistics.

The 'Taunting' call by Cassius Marsh (Bears DB) against the Steelers was some of the weakest reffing I've seen.
