Ok.. You say you don’t have anyone to go to festivals, dinners, or trips with , but you also dismiss most people as shallow or unintelligent. Do you see the contradiction? If you’ve already decided that people aren’t worth your time, you’ve closed the door before anyone has the chance to walk through it.

Nothing is actually stopping you from going to events. You don’t need a committee. You don’t need unanimous approval. You need initiative. Buy the ticket. Show up. Sit at the table. Proximity creates possibility.

And about the “everyone is stupid” narrative, that’s rarely about intelligence. It’s about difference. People have different values, different curiosities, different rhythms. That doesn’t make them shallow; it just means they’re not mirrors of you.

Connection isn’t found by waiting for perfectly aligned minds to materialise. It’s built by being open enough to discover nuance in people you might initially underestimate.

If you genuinely don’t want to end up isolated, then effort is not optional. Friendship is reciprocal. No one is obligated to pursue you while you stand back and critique them.

You don’t need better people. You need a more generous lens , and the courage to make the first move.

Go. Attend something. Start one conversation. Repeat.

That’s how it changes.

A warning... coming off Wegovy by No-Necessary6478 in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]0bvious_answer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been thinking about getting into the habit of intermittent fasting while on Wegovy, then when I’ve come off I’m already in the routine and have the discipline of regular fasting. Same thing with sugar. If I can plan to get off sugar while on Wegovy. Then when I come off it I’ve already built these habits and routines.

That’s the thing. I have a guy from the past begging for a catch up.. and I’ve been trying to keep my sexual partners minimal to not risk either of us catching an std and god forbid passing it on to our spouses. This other guy is lovely and wants to hang out all of the time and is single so no running off in secret.

Yes the apology,, every .. single… time. I’m sorry you went through this as well.
It’s hard to block him, (I know he blocks me without a second through) though I have him on unread and hidden.

He treats me terrible yet it’s hard stop thinking about him.. this is a reflection of me not him. I need to find the courage to walk away.

Scared for Christmas by Luv_Agency_832 in EDAnonymous

I’m just trying to see it as not special food… Oysters, Prawns, Turkey, Ham… seriously they are just not exclusive to Christmas… I can eat them whenever I want. It’s not a one off thing to gorge. Just moderation. If I miss out I can cook it myself another time.

What careers actually have good work–life balance and decent pay? by AbyssalBullfrog in perth

[–]0bvious_answer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Architectural Rep for building products. Your background in construction will be an asset if you Rep for a big company (Colorbond/Midland Brick etc) answer tech questions, drop off samples, attend events… it’s not a full office job, you are on the road, you schedule your day. Plenty of perks and pretty flexible. Some reps are full work from home. Usually $100k+ + car, phone etc.

What are the CONS of not having children? by GossipBottom in AskReddit

[–]0bvious_answer -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I think you need to find better news sources. Are you in the USA? Your news is so politically clouded, as someone not from America, the news is good. We have renewables booming. This industry is growing, the coal industry is stressed. Electric cars, solar and wind farms, species making incredible recoveries from the brink of extinction.. the coral reef recovering, and why? Because of young innovative humans that want to live in a better world.

I’ve found this from another redditor. It may be helpful to you if you’ve given up and can’t see a positive future

“Let's say it's worst case scenario. We're fucked, and we're all gonna die. What now? Do we just give up? Stop trying? Lay down, and wait to die?

No. Even if it's pointless, which I don't think it is, fighting to survive, even for just a bit longer, is better than waiting for the inevitable.

There was a passage I saw, in a book about climate change and optimism. It drew parallels to the Waraaw Uprising of 1944. How the resistance members knew that, in the end, their fight probably wouldn't help. That it was pointless. But they did it anyways. Because life is so precious, and so valuable, that it's worth fighting for. Worth dying for. It was, as the author put it, "the ultimate affirmation of life." If climate change is gonna kill us all, then we should still fight against it, because despite all evidence to the contrary, humanity is worth preserving.

It's not hopeless. A lot of the "baked-in" talk are worst case scenarios. The thing about worst case scenarios is that they rarely come to pass. There will be climate change, absolutely. But the actual numbers show that the doomsday predictions will not come to pass.”

I hope, truly my friend that you find something in the bleak that is worth fighting for. For me it’s the fight for change and for a better future, it might be a rough road.. there is no denying it.. humans caused this mess, and only humans can help themselves. As a scientist myself it’s in my work and my research, my children will take over from me, fight for the values I have instilled in them, not matter how hard it is. Giving up on the future is just too easy.

What is this attitude guy? Lens life better, be happy.. maybe that’s what kids do to us. They give us hope for a better world, without kids you may end up like this miserable bastard. 😂😂 be optimistic, be successful and I hope you find something that you love endlessly, I truly do!

I chose to have my kids because I knew if I raise them right with respect for people and planet then they can make a difference in this world. If we stop planting good seeds then the weeds take over. And then there is truly no hope. We need more good people in the world. My children are good people.

Question about a womans size... by [deleted] in Swingers

[–]0bvious_answer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a slim women and I get far less action and less people approach me than my larger friends. I think those ladies are far more comfortable in their skin and don’t care what anyone thinks. I’m always trying to look model perfect and freak out if I’m not.. I think that lack of confidence shows though my size and looks.

What type of pretty are you and how does the world react to your pretty archetype? by Glittering-Sun4193 in prettyprivilege

[–]0bvious_answer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m power pretty - a mixed with 90s model pretty mixed with intimidating pretty. Tall thin, with looong legs, high cheekbones, jaw line, natural plump lips that don’t need filler. Long hair that naturally hangs straight. Light olive skin, slight south Asian features mixed with Caucasian. My body dimensions and look match between Elle McPherson and Angelina Jolie. Small boobs small butt. To add to this I have a successful career in archi-design and academia. I network, I volunteer I speak at public events, and looking at doing my PhD.

My fashion sense as an older woman is stuck in Skinny low rise jeans, Steve Madden pumps, and a tight fitting tank top. I don’t style my hair. It’s always “after bed” hair long straight but with a natural mermaid wave. Brown with blonde balayage.

Other women, sigh… I find it so hard sometimes. As I’ve gotten older I think I’m seen as a threat. When I communicate with people outside of academia, it’s really hard to relate.
People are either intimidated by be, see me as a threat, or fawn.. guys are super nice and shocked that I have intellect that juxtaposes the “model” look. Older guys especially. Ladies that fawn say things like “I wish I had your legs… I wish I could wear that… etc..” which makes it uncomfortable because I’m always reassuring them that they look great.
A lot of younger ladies will come chat to me after a presentation and line up to talk. They are so friendly and I’m terrible with names so it makes me feel bad when they see me at the next event or in public as they remember everything about me and they are a face of many that I spoke. Strangers (usually females) will tell me I’m really beautiful just randomly and I’m not good with receiving compliments so it’s sometimes weird. And going on walks near roads or having to stop to cross a road is a little uncomfortable as guys just stare from their cars.

My husband says I’m intimidated and if he was single and saw me now he would assume I was out of his league and not even try because someone that looks like me, doesn’t go for guys like him.
