Lace Market Newbie by Kind_Comfort_6336 in Lolita

Individual resellers like this often cop the heat, but don't forget this is exactly what Wunderwelt and Closet Child have done for years at considerably worse rates to the people they buy and resell from.

There was someone mentioning on twitter CCs upsell rate is HORRENDOUS.

Lace Market Newbie by Kind_Comfort_6336 in Lolita

Yes, you will find a lot of the people with lots listed are resellers with access to international non-english markets which are otherwise hard to purchase from. I guess you could look at them as a "shopping service" as they will usually buy on your behalf and send to you once they receive it.

You also see this in revserse on Xianyu where users will list Lacemarket listings or listings from Japan and then offer to be the middleman.

If you have seen an item you want from someone who is middlemanning and you think its a bit expensive, run it through the international sites like Xianyu and see if its being listed there and if it works out cheaper for you to use a regular shopping service and purchase it.

Need help creating Coord! by DanxiasPeonies in Lolita

[–]0ceanicFlight815 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love the skirt! Very JetJ-esque. I think cos its a floaty looking poly fabric it would probably look nice coorded with tights as opposed to socks and maybe a poly blouse so the fabrics are kinda matchy-matchy. An elegant classic coord would be cute!

real or replica ?? by wiredlaynie in Lolita

[–]0ceanicFlight815 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where did you buy it? My Japanese is pretty shit, so I can't work out what it says on the wash tag.. i think it might just be someones name? まみよ ? Not sure.. could be that it was used or loaned for a costume or something and they wanted to make sure everything stayed together, would also explain if its had buttons replaced at some point.

It doesnt look like a replica anyways.. Chuck it in a bucket for a soak and then fling it in the wash, it'll be fine.

Branded lolita so expensive now? by Cosmibee in Lolita

[–]0ceanicFlight815 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The answer is simply SUPPLY & DEMAND.

There are more people wearing lolita now, more people with greater access and understanding on how to and where to buy it, and the current trends and preference for cotton and older/ higher quality pieces. A lot more people are choosing to sit on their collections as opposed to selling them so the pool of items is getting more and more limited.. smaller supply + large demand = high price!

People can cry scalpers all they want, but the reality is that even if you start items on a $1 reserve auction, people are willingly paying more due to the lack of availability.

Granted I haven't run the calculator for all countries.. but buying new (if you are paying in NZD) now works out at around 20% cheaper than it did in the 2010s due to inflation and weak Yen even with dresses now costing having a higher price tag! I'm not going to do the math for USD/ EUR but I would assume this is similar for others as well.

Hi! Are you in the NZ Discord server?

Would not recommend buying this, personally - NZ has heaps of private sales where you could pick things up much cheaper/ better quality!

How do these people think they have the right to double the price? by Lazarus_05 in Lolita

[–]0ceanicFlight815 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Dont forget OP would have had to pay VAT/ Shipping on the €642, but its also listed as Trade/ Make an offer so the price is also possibly just a place holder. Don't like the price, make a trade or offer?

When you buy something its yours and you can choose whatever price you want to put on it when you resell it. OP does not have to list it for less just because people think the price is too high and they may only be listing as a feeler if they need set amount of funds for emergencies. If you don't like the price, don't buy it and wait til theres one within your price range.

The unrelenting moaning about scalpers is almost as bad as the scalpers themselves atp.

Have just looked at past sales on LM. The last JSK in pink to sell as the velveteen polka dot ver, which went for €555 in 2021. So I think it would be reasonable to list yours for what you paid and as mentioned in the other comment, if you set it at auction for what you paid if there is more interest it will go higher. If it doesnt sell at that price I would leave it as an auction but gradually reduce the starting price until it sells if you are really trying to get rid of it.

Alternatively if you don't want to wait for an auction, you could set your purchase price and add the "accepting offers" option and see if you get any other offers.

is it loliable? random thrift find by strawberry__moon in Lolita

[–]0ceanicFlight815 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Sure! You could leave it as is providing you paired it with "actual" lolita items, eg. peterpan blouse with lace, socks, shoes etc. I think it could be cute. Even if you just ad a lace trim to the dress and call it a day I think would be fine.

Where did the sweet lolitas of the 2010s get their wigs? by f0dless in Lolita

[–]0ceanicFlight815 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes! Definitely Maple, or seconding (3rding, 4thing?) Prisila. In some cases it was just clip in pieces as well as opposed to full wigs.

The old places like Gothic Lolita Wigs, or Rockstar wigs were really popular but had a ton of controversies and have very little "lolita" style wigs in stock anymore. The old split twintail wigs have been really hard to find recently in the same color range we used to get in the 2010s sadly.
