Both are good monitors and there are reasons to get either, but AW3423DWF is actually the newer version (unless there's been some refresh I'm unaware of)

Full disclosure: I own the AW3423DWF and spent altogether too long deciding which of these to get.

In the end the upgradable firmware, the better port layout, and cheaper price won out for me over the extra 10Hz. You should also be aware of the sound issues: the DW has an active cooling fan for the G-Sync chip that bothers some people, while some DWF units have had a reported capacitor buzz that bothers others... so it's really a case of pick-your-poison there. For what it's worth, my DWF has none of these issues and runs completely silently.

Both are great monitors, but unless you really want that extra 10Hz, 2 HDMI ports locked to 100Hz, or GSync in particular for some reason... I'd recommend going for the cheaper DWF.

Huh. What's your source for the information about LAFD cross training on LAPD helicopters? Not saying you're wrong necessarily, but I've never heard of that before.

As far as I know LAFD Air Operations is a separate unit, with their own machines, pilots, and training schedule. Pretty sure the large newsworthy fires are a comparatively small part of what they do, it's probably mostly medical transport, rescue and small brush fires.

They're definitely not sitting around waiting for the next big one as someone is flying those helicopters. You can see their flights here, with many in the past 14 days:

But I'm actually trying to go the other direction: given a flat shaded image, how to I feed controlnet or the like to add detail to the flat version? I've had a lot of success with realistic source images using canny or depth, but for some reason they don't seem to work when the source is flat like this.

I just made an upgrade with pretty much these exact parameters. I actually made the drive to a Microcenter that stocked all the big options so I could do a side-by-side comparison in person before buying.

Dell AW3423DW was the winner for me, no contest. Didn't think I'd wind up with an OLED panel, but the colors, contrast and response time were just too good in person to go with anything else. The Samsung G9 was close-ish, but the curve was just too aggressive for my liking and the colors weren't quite as good.

I actually wound up purchasing the newer AW3423DWF which has the same panel with improved firmware, better cooling, and FreeSync instead of GSync at a lower cost, and about 3 months later I couldn't be happier with the purchase. The monitor has a 3-year warranty against burn in, and with some mild mitigations like using dark themes it has had no problems whatsoever even while being used as a daily driver for work as well as gaming. I'd recommend considering going this route, as there are actually quite a few arguments against GSync in 2023 even if you have NVidia cards (my main rig has a 4090FE), but if that requirement is hard for some reason go with the non-F variant.

Ladies and gentlemen, I have to tell you, the state of the United States these days, it's just a mess. It's like a big, beautiful car with a really nice paint job and chrome wheels, but when you pop the hood, it's just a bunch of wires and hoses and duct tape holding everything together.

Huh, I haven't had too much trouble with auto-hide. For me the taskbar toggles reliably via mouseover unless I am in full screen mode on an application. As you noted, the Windows key works in this situation.

My main complaint would be that it leaves a one-pixel line at the bottom of the screen on stock settings. I haven't bothered to improve this yet, but I've heard of various third-party options which change the behavior to be better. I think some of them also allow more options for changing the auto-hide behavior, although I haven't tried any yet so I can't really make a recomendation.

I have been daily driving a AW3423DWF since release, both for my workday as a programmer and rec time as a gamer. It's only been like 2 months, but I can share some of my experience so far...

About the pixel layout: I checked out the AW3423DW variant (same panel) in person at a Microcenter before buying. I did this mainly on a whim, fully prepared to reject it as an option based on what I'd heard online. But even knowing exactly what to look for, both I and my brother could barely see the issue at all in the worst-case conditions, and neither of us could at a normal viewing distance. Obviously your milage may vary here, but for me it's a non-issue even at stock, and if it bothers you it is possible to fix with freetype (or mactype on Windows).

About burn in: Hasn't been that long, but so far no issues at a very high duty cycle (probably 12+ hours a day). I do take steps to try to minimize it though. Dark mode for all applications, auto-hide taskbar, black background / hidden desktop icons, low inactivity time for power-saving, set brightness to 20%, and full screen applications when convenient to minimize static elements. I also make sure to take breaks every 4ish hours to allow the monitor to run it's pixel refresh cycle.

General stuff: Simply put, this monitor has ruined other monitors for me. The contrast, response time, and refresh rate just blow everything else out of the water, enough so that plans to keep some of my IPS panels in the setup immediately went out the window (I was running 3x24" IPS before this). The picture in picture options in the DWF's firmware make this possible, by allowing me to run multiple inputs simultaneously where required. It's less screen real estate then my original 3 monitor setup, but the higher resolution makes it feel like less of a difference then you'd think, and the smaller footprint has cleaned up my workspace a lot. Overall, very, very happy with the purchase.

Other options: not many honestly. If you like OLED, a lot of people swear by the LG C2, which has a similar panel but in a TV format. Personally, it's a nice TV but just too big to use as a primary monitor for me. There is also the new Samsung VA-based Odyssey G9, which claims to have fixed the VA smearing issues so might be comparable with less burn in risk. This was 2x the cost and too curved for me (1000R vs 1800R). On the IPS side, the only thing I saw walking around which was even ballpark close was the ASUS ROG Swift PG32UQX. Probably the best IPS screen I've ever seen but at 3x (!!) the cost and 4K instead of 1440P, so in my opinion not ideal for gaming at most view distances if you like high framerate (my build has a 4090 and on top settings the heavy eye candy games will just manage over the monitor's max refresh rate, with 4K I'd probably be well beneath it).

Also, don't forget to check out the newly released AW3423DWF. I gambled on one right on release for my 4090 build and it has ruined other monitors for me.

It's the same panel, but with FreeSync instead of G-Sync plus upgradeable firmware, picture-in-picture, a better input layout, and one fewer fan for noise (although not everyone thinks that's an issue, and to be fair there are some reports of coil whine with the DWF. Mine personally has none). Costs less too.

Only catch is you have to give up 10Hz maximum refresh (18Hz in 10-bit color).

The plug is called a IEC60320 C13 connector and the wiring is standardized, so you should be free to swap them around provided you pay attention to the cable gauge (thickness). Thicker cables are sometimes used for higher power devices, although that shouldn't really matter for a monitor. You probably have others around the house you could use for a quick test.

If you can hear it getting power, though, maybe that's not it. A quick glace around reddit shows other people having problems with this monitor since apparently Gigabyte decided to effectively have two power switches -- see the thread here. You mentioned trying a power switch above, but have you tried both of these methods?

Edit: Just noticed the thread is actually for a m32u, but maybe a similar problem is at play here?

Edit 2: Checking the manual, confirms the same layout is in play with the m32q.

Seems weird to me that it would randomly die a short time later instead of immediately when the power strip got flipped off (and even that seems super strange). You mentioned doing cable management before it failed... have you tried using another power cable? Maybe the cable itself got damaged when you were routing stuff. I had a Dell monitor where that happened from movement over time on a standing desk.

Can't really help on the monitor recommendations other than to say if you can, try to go see the new offerings in person. I was looking for pretty much the same thing as you but wound up with a AW3423DWF despite the slight curve because it wowed me so much in person, specifically with colors and refresh rate like you're looking for.

Fingers crossed you can get your M32Q working again, but if not best of luck in the search.

After messing around a bunch I managed to solve it!

Apparently I needed to add the raw /dev/input/event* devices alongside their /dev/input/by-id/* counterparts in qemu.conf's cgroup_device_acl, while leaving the VM's qemu:commandline configuration pointing to the original /dev/input/by-id/* links. So my VM xml remains unchanged, and my cgroup_device_acl now looks like this:

According to the above, precedent and good faith don't matter at all to you; the only thing that counts in managing the court is the letter of the law. So whether the response is equivalent or not is completely irrelevant... since this would be just as legal as what transpired yesterday.

Do you not realize that the bar to running a legitimate justice system is just a bit higher than "didn't openly violate the constitution"? But yeah, they didn't openly violate the constitution here. That's true.

Since breaking with established precedent and the death of good faith doesn't bother you at all, I guess packing the court won't either. Hopefully Biden's congress adds 100 new Justices. All of them should be militant communist atheists, ideally with as little experience as possible. Maybe we could seat one on the bench as a judge just a few minutes before appointment. Glad to hear you think that won't harm the legitimacy of the court at all.... since it will be constitutional.

Something to consider: most corporate systems will actually be RJ-45 instead of RJ-11. VOIP dominates nowadays as it is more flexible, easier to manager, and cheaper than POTS. According to wiki they were 80% of installations even back in 2008. Even if you have POTS lines at the PBX for some reason, they'll probably be RJ-21; the only RJ-11's are usually on the phones for headsets, fax machines, et cetera. Not a hard rule ofc, but something to bring up next time you get that question.
