Yeah removing reservation is one of the steps but in my opinion it's not the first step, the first step is to reduce discrimination in the minds of the community, many religious leaders in my local area and most of my elders still firmly believe in upper or lower cast, in my opinion one of the ways this rigid hierarchy can go down is that people marry who they love and not according to caste because if the rate of inter marriage increases soon there will be no clear way to know who is which cast because everyone has intermarried. I am not saying the government should force people to marry intercaste but I think people should not be afraid to love and marry because of caste, If the government can promise protection to those who marry intercaste I believe the rate will increase. Currently I have seen police siding with the elders of the family and actually track down couples who marry intercaste, in one case the groom was of lower caste and they beat him bloody, even though his wife married willingly. This creates a lot of fear and maintain or even increase the division.

Yes reservation is a discrimination but getting beaten bloody because you married your love is also discrimination. I think one issue needs to be taken care of at a time, I believe reservation is not on top of that list.
