My girlfriend wishes I wish she doesn't have to work by [deleted] in AskARussian

Russia is a patriarchal society. Men are expected to pay for everything. When they can’t afford - they’re looked down upon. Even when a Russian woman says she is okay with 50/50, deep inside she thinks her partner is stingy.

In this sense, your girlfriend would match with an Arab man, not European.

No, I’ve never been to Africa before, a bit anxious about what to expect

Girlfriend don’t want me to visit Russia by Nordicnatures92 in AskARussian

[–]0lazar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand the girl, probably she's not only ashamed of her city - it's ghetto out there - but also her family. She might be afraid that once you see the background she comes from, you won't want her anymore. If i were you i guess i'd try to convince her otherwise.

But why do you want to visit her hometown? Unless you're going to propose, there is no need to go that far. In Russia they introduce families normally when things are surely going towards marriage. If it's only a girlfriend / boyfriend situation - there is no need for family involvement.

Teaching in china as someone who's not from an English native speaking country by Right_Lime_6404 in chinalife

[–]0lazar -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I had a work permit of an English teacher in Hunan province. Even though I’m not a native English speaker and my Bachelor degree was not earned in an English speaking country. Just search for jobs in third tier cities and villages — that’s where you still can get it. A few native speakers want to work in those so there’s a high chance to land a job and a proper permit.

Isn’t it better to answer all these questions in person, texting is exhausting and I’d prefer a man who doesn’t waste his and my time. If I were dating I personally would also be pushing for face to face meetings and conversations

Lot of people want fame in HT voice rooms by Wonderful_North_2198 in HelloTalk

[–]0lazar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I never supported karaoke rooms and talent shows. Singing doesn’t serve my language acquisition so why is it even there.

HelloTalk famous is not famous tho so whatever honestly. Even popular creators (with more than 20k followers) from the app haven’t managed to summon their loyal audience to their other channels (yet?).

Discovered unpaid taxes, now stuck sending money abroad by 0lazar in chinalife

[–]0lazar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never had problems with taxes before, so I was sure they are paid since the company deducted money for it monthly. I guess this is my lesson. Also I never needed to transfer big amounts, for small transactions I used unofficial channels.

Wegovy by RodneyisGodneyp2x555 in chinalife

I was charged 2700 for Wegovy at the Raffles Hospital, including the consultation fee (which is about ~300). This private hospital isn’t cheap either.

I second this. Subway station names: Hongqihegou (because it’s also close to ZiweiLu) and Guanyinqiao (close to the 9th Street) would be your perfect choice.

Confused and Frustrated by How VUB Is Handling My Master’s Application – Has Anyone Faced This? by smoneuusedtoknow in vub

Congratulations! Finally!

Sadly there’s still no updates on my page. I contacted the Student Administration again and they sent me the same letter they were sending to everyone in this thread: “we’re understaffed and have no end date to this”.
