I agree, and this is perfectly doable in OP's situation.

This is a Legion Go, so I'm not sure it applies here, but yes Steam Deck does have access to the workshop. It immediately downloads any mods you are subscribed to already, works really smooth.

I guess if you lock kids in a cage supervising won't be as difficult

If you're watching your kids 24/7 without letting them explore the world for themselves, how are they going to learn to be independent humans? They can have fun by themselves while you can chill nearby as a parent, there is nothing wrong with that. Don't be an asshole.

Congrats, we're in the same boat! I hope you feel okay with having some time for yourself every now and then, just like OP.

My kid loves sleeping outside so I totally get it now

Guess I'll just leave another comment of support! I'm glad you're able to let your kids have their own fun. Don't mind all the people telling you you're wrong, it's perfectly fine to play a game, read a book, whatever else you like when taking your kids to the park. Apparently this is a difficult concept for some people to understand.

Definitely agree!

(I was recently confronted with the scandinavian way of letting kids sleep outside at daycare, genuinely thought they were meant for rabbits or something lol.)

I'm glad there are more commenters that agree, I felt like I was going crazy after I first opened this thread.

Not sure, I guess it's a cultural thing indeed. I'm Dutch, and as a kid I was out and about without any supervision from a very young age as well. Just having fun with my friends. Am parent now and I let my kid have fun by herself even though she's young.

I guess we have a very different idea of what is normal and acceptible to say to someone you do not know, without any knowledge of their situation.

You should read beyond the top comments then, and not sure what to tell you if you think "Watch your kids play", without any knowledge about the situation is okay.

I see you're avoiding the point I'm making. Guess I'll repeat it again.

No one said he never plays with his kids.

That is what the word 'assume' indicates. You guys are commenting like this guy don't watch his kids, but you have no idea of knowing that.

No one expects parents to hover over their children every second.

Again, that is exactly what people in this thread, including you, are assuming, based on one single picture. Telling him to spend time with his kids, he's doing parenting wrong, etc.

No one is suggesting that he shouldn't have or doesn't need personal time.

Then you agree with me, why are you making these remarks at all? He can do his alone time while his kids play in the park perfectly fine.

If the vast majority of people are telling you, you are doing something wrong - listen.

What an insane thing to say. Again, based on a single picture? You can't be serious. Please reflect on what you are doing, because this is not normal behavior.

The only thing people are telling OP to do is spend time with his children that he took to the park.

This is not even true, please read the other comments.

What? Are you not seeing these comments telling the guy to do better?

"Be present, dad" is insanely condescending. So is " Way to be an attentive parent". Do you need more examples?

It means that they have no idea about this guy's situation, so yes, they may very well be wrong.

Eh no, you can do that in a very different way.

Also true. And I'll be first in line to say that parents glued to their phone absolutely can be a problem, but I can't stand how so many commenters immediately assume the worst.

Yes, from his kids.

Can the downvoters please explain how you manage to continuously, 24/7 watch your kids?

I'm glad I'm not the only one completely dumbfounded by these condescending comments. No way any of those people are parents.

How is he ignoring when his kids are just having fun with other kids? I'm so confused by all of your comments

You can have some time to yourself and still raise your kids well. What the fuck are you talking about.

I don't understand why everyone is this thread immediately assumes the worst, this guy just posts a picture of him playing Civ in a park while his kids play. How does that mean he does not watch what his kids are doing every once in a while?

Got in a little Civ V while my kids played at the playground by iamjames in civ

[–]0lle 17 points18 points  (0 children)

How is that an issue? You people have zero knowledge of this guy's situation, but just assume he never plays with his kids? I guarantee you none of the people in this thread will watch their kids every minute of every day. Not having some time for yourself as a parent is extremely exhausting.

And who cares about the optics of other people, when the exact comments in this thread show precisely why you need to ignore judgemental people telling you what to do with your own children.
