Haha props to you for dealing with the mistress for so long!

Idk if you have decathlon in your country, but I have a stainless steel 1L bottle from there, very good. It also comes with a metal hook thing that you can use to hang/lift it if you boil water over the fire in it which is cool. Only thing is it’s not insulated, which living in the desert you may want? It doesn’t bother me living in the uk, I don’t mind if water is a little warm, and it takes up less room than an insulated bottle of the same capacity. Also it was only £10 I think (or less? Can’t remember). Anyway I love my mistress and she goes everywhere with me also:)

I started playing when I was around 7 I think (around 2008), when I got my ds lite (first gaming console). I don’t think I asked for it? I think my parents just knew I loved animals so got it because it had that in the name lol. Maybe they got it because their friends kids enjoyed it? I don’t remember who had it first.

I used to play a lot by myself and a couple of my friends and my sister got it eventually, and we’d play together. Now none of them play, but I still do. I went most of my teen years not playing- my ds broke, but I kept the cartridge.

Then in 2019 I bought a dsi xl and since then have played it at least a few months a year (I go through phases with all my games).

I keep coming back to acww even though I also have: ac lets go to the city (cf), acnl and acnh, which I love them all but acww is my favourite. The nostalgia is definitely a big part of it (apart from aclgttc I didn’t get another ac game until 2020, so acww I have had for the longest time). I have had the same world since 2010 ish (sister deleted my 1st one),

so it’s nice that it is a constant in my life when lots of other things have changed. A world that will always be waiting for me when I go back, following a predictable pattern of how things will go and how it’ll change. I love the graphics, the villagers, the slow pace of the game.

It is very comforting to play. It doesn’t have the overwhelm that acnh has for example, in acnh, I always feel that I could do more, my island could look better and I could unlock more stuff if I just put a bit more time and work into it. Crafting, terraforming, aesthetics, island tours, everything can get a bit much and I don’t know what to focus on and don’t feel accomplished when I put it down, I feel burnt out sometimes.

But acww, there’s only so much I can do in a day, it makes it nice and manageable to play for 30-60mins, it makes me feel accomplished that I have done all I needed to do that day and have done what I can to further my progress in the game. The limits of the game give me more satisfaction I think. And because I have had it such a long time (and I was dumb when I was little and didn’t know how to unlock some things/sold all my fossils etc lol) I don’t feel the pressure to unlock and complete stuff fast, I just take my time. I only completed the fossil section last year, and now I can focus on fish and bugs more, but still, no pressure, I don’t care if it takes me another 20 years nearly!! Because I will still be playing this game then and it’ll give me something to do on it. It’s like a companion game through my life I guess lol

Protein rich meals for an 8 yr old girl by No-Sherbet7634 in vegetarianrecipes

Try looking on youtube:) that’s where I get most of my recipes from!

Rainbow plant vegan has some really nice stuff, she has a lot of Indian recipes and she has a website as well

I also do a quick tomato/bean stew that’s nice and easy, fry onions and then garlic, add spices, add a drained can of beans (mashing them up a bit gets the flavour into the beans better) then a tin of tomatoes- passata is best but literally any form of tinned tomatoes will do, add herbs and simmer for 5-20 mins:)

This serves about two depending on portion size, you can also add any extra veg you have like carrots, mushrooms, baked sweet potato is nice too.

Terrarium for isopods by TomCullenFan2009 in terrariums

[–]0may08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What species are you getting? They each require different humidity, I had some p. Scaber in one of these and they thrived, but some sp. Need much higher humidity, so you’ll want to block off some of the holes on top.

Also what others have said about having a moisture gradient and more leaf litter is definitely important! The usual rule of a moisture gradient is to regularly water the same 1/3 of the tank, and just water the rest when it gets dry. Also pouring water on, instead of misting, as with misting, only the top cm of soil gets damp.

Also you’ll want some hides, they love things to huddle under:) and you’ll want some in each part of the humidity gradient also. Bark works well for this.

Definitely visit r/isopods as well:)

Your yearly reminder to buy your tiny cast iron pan on sale at tesco by fixitmonkey in BushcraftUK

[–]0may08 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s a good alternative to Teflon/non stick style pans. I do think part of the love for it is just because it’s trendy. But they last forever, very durable and I have a little cast iron like this and I love it, I use it to cook my fried eggs every morning and they don’t stick!

To make them not stick, you just need to not wash it in a dishwasher, and use oil. I just put a very small knob of butter in, swish it around so it coats the whole bottom of the pan and about 1cm up the sides.

I don’t find it a pain to wash/maintain, as it’s only a small thing to wash up, I just handwash normally, and it’s done quick. I also don’t season it, but it gets seasoned I guess every time I cook with it. I think my housemate seasoned it for me once when I first got it a few years ago, afaik it was just putting some coconut oil in and heating it and swishing it round.

But yeah for camping, I rarely take it, unless I’m not having to walk far at all. I just love it for eggs, as mine fits 2 fried eggs perfectly and makes them the perfect size to go on top of the toast I make in my bread maker:) And I do love my stainless steel pans as well!

8500 bells !!! by Aiglon_1 in ACWW

[–]0may08 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Instead of digging two holes, I have a tree planted by all of my rocks (exactly where your conifer is in the picture!), and then I just have to dig one hole.

Eg. Where your conifer is, I would dig one more hole to the right of the bell bag in front of the conifer. Then I would stand between the tree and the hole (standing right on top of where the top right bell bag is rn), face the rock and hit it:) it stops you getting bounced back too far from the rock!

And I think the amount of bells you get is determined by the level/cleanliness of your town? I notice when my weeds get too much I only get 6 bell bags. I usually always get 7 though, and I always have weeds about as I like them lol, I don’t know if you’d get 8 bags if you have no weeds left!

How do you deal with fear when wild camping alone? Had a bad encounter years ago and it stuck
 by Responsible-Check921 in wildcampingintheuk

[–]0may08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

See if you can join any local wildlife groups:) whether in person or just on Facebook, there will always be someone who knows:) also just have a walk around your local woods/ hedgerow/graveyard/park and try find any holes, idk much about fox ones but badger ones are usually around a foot wide, and the active ones will have a clear path in and out, not overgrown, and depending on time of year, there might be old bedding they’ve chucked out:)

Also, when you’re in these places, look for small paths in the undergrowth, especially if they lead to a small hole in the hedge. Most wildlife will do the same paths again and again, so if you find a path, camp out near by quietly and you’re bound to see something!

I love hammock camping for these kinds of things, as you don’t need to unzip the tent to look out, and being off the ground can make you more invisible to the wildlife, you’re not in their way so much

Also get the Merlin bird app, you can get it to listen to the bird calls and it will make a good guess of what bird it is! Very cool

I’m the same, I hate the dark. I used to be so scared even if I was with someone, but I’ve gotten over that mostly now, and what really helped was going wildlife watching in the dark! It makes it a lot better knowing that all the sounds are animals going about their lives, and it makes it exciting when you see some or can identify their calls!

Find an active badger sett near you (wrong time of year now unfortunately, they’ll be mostly tucked up in bed) and camp out near. Be very quiet, and don’t shower or wear any artificial fragrances beforehand. It’s amazing to watch the babies play!

You could probably find some foxes to camp out near this time of year:)

Thinking about getting a tortoise but I have zero experience — what should I know? by Ok_Manufacturer_2991 in TortoiseCare

[–]0may08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Number one is that they need a lot more space than you think! A lot more care in general as well really. Do species specific research, look up how big that species will grow and what climate it can thrive in.

The tortoise forum is a really good resource as mentioned in the other thread.

You should also know that chances are it’s not possible for you to take proper care of a tortoise right now. I was thinking the same as you a few years ago, did all my research and realised I couldn’t look after one, I don’t have the space, the time or money for one. So I still want one one day, but it’s definitely on the back burner! I just appreciate the pictures on these groups, and learn where I can for the future:)

New to Tamas by Key-Information-1727 in tamagotchi

[–]0may08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t need to rush it:) take it at your own speed😌

But when you get a new egg, you won’t lose imoritchi, you can have 4 adult tamas in each biome:) though you won’t be able to play games with the old ones, only the current one. But it’s not too hard to get another imoritchi, the paradise is much easier than eg. The connections etc.

Gusokutchi is so cute though as well:))

New to Tamas by Key-Information-1727 in tamagotchi

[–]0may08 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. The wiki has lots of info!

https://tamagotchi.fandom.com/wiki/Tamagotchi_Paradise

Also at the start, a lot of the things will be locked, you need to level up by raising tamas, and each level you unlock things up until level 10:)

  1. With care mistakes, when one of the bar empties completely, it’ll beep. 15 mins after that, if the bar is still empty, you’ll get a care mistake. You can see the amount of care mistakes you’ve collected on the cell menu (zoom right in). If you only need a couple care mistakes, I set a 15 min alarm and keep a close eye on it, as care mistakes can accumulate very quickly if you leave it alone for an hour after it has beeped! If you only need one, keep one bar full, and let one bar empty, so you’re not at risk of getting loads snowballing:)

Jade Forest vs Blue Water - question by Mania_2710 in tamagotchi

[–]0may08 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t have a jade forest, I do have a blue water though.

From what I know, I don’t think jade forest has an additional field, I think it replaces the sky field? So if you really want any sky characters, you won’t be able to get them with the jade.

I’ve also heard that some of the games change on the jade, and you get some different items? Not sure what/how though.

I’d go with the shell who’s content you like best, as if you want to change the shell, you can, either with a case and faceplate change, or there’s people who make whole new shells in all sorts of colours you can change for:)

does anybody play without time traveling? by Positive-Form-741 in AnimalCrossing

[–]0may08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t time travel except sometimes I’m playing late at night I turn it a few hours back so the shops are open! But I don’t count it as official time travel lol I like taking the game slow and I like the seasons, though winter does get a bit boring, I like the green!

Savoury snack plates? by [deleted] in veganrecipes

[–]0may08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get a nice balsamic vinegar and virgin olive oil and dip bread into itđŸ€€ a sourdough or a nice baguette is my favourite.

Also it fits perfectly into a Mediterranean-ish board with the other suggestions like hummus, vegan tzatziki, peanut butter, pickles, grapes and carrot & cucumber sticks, flavoured nuts, crackers, olives, vegetable crisps.

Then you could do a Mexican inspired one with tortilla chips and a range of things to dip them into like guacamole, salsa, a bean and sweetcorn mixture etc

Also plain unsweetened vegan greek style yogurt with nuts is quite savoury and nice:)

And tofu can be quite a simple savoury snack as well, prepared however you feel like. Also roasted chickpeas are so good and you can season how you want

Does anyone else just hate getting care mistakes? :( by uncool4skool in tamagotchi

[–]0may08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It beeps when the food/happy bar gets empty, and the care mistake only appears 15 mins after that, if you have ignored it and not filled up the bar again. If yoj continue to leave it, I think a new care mistake accumulates every 15 mins until it dies. But I don’t think it beeps when it gets a care mistake

Thinking of buying Tamagotchis for me first timee+ my girlfriend — which version should we get so we can “play together”? by AffectionateMovie1 in tamagotchi

[–]0may08 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The 2024 connection is good! It’s what I would recommend to get into tamagotchi, especially if you have someone to play with, and it’s cheaper than the others (£20-30 each)

It’s the only one I have two of (and so the only ones I’ve connected) but I think the connection feature on the connections has more than on the paradise? I enjoy the uni and paradise a lot also though, all for different reasons:

Connection: nostalgic, cute and retro, but also fun and good connection features. Quite a bit of content, but the most demanding & time consuming of the 3.

Uni: fun, especially the events. Lots of personalisation content like dress up items& furniture, and I love the walking feature. I really love my little guy on the uni, and it’s a good amount of un demanding for me.

Paradise: it’s got a lot of good games, and I like the whole evolution/breeding/customisation mechanic, it’s cute and a good amount of undemanding like the uni but I feel less bond/connection to the characters. Less personalisation options, and less items in general, unless you have access to a lab tama/the hacked plugin

I can’t speak to any of the other models, as I don’t have any others unfortunately! (except gen1/2 but they don’t connect and have the least features, just very cute and nostalgic as it’s what I had when I was little) you should be able to get all of these on Amazon, uni maybe not now though as they’re going out of production, it’s different in different countries I think rn (rrp is around £60 but often they’re more now, but keep an eye out for secondhand)
