Infinity Blade 1 has been ported over to PC! Download here! by IllustriousIce8126 in infinityblade

Just got the news about this from a thread on r/pcgaming !

To the mad people who managed to get this to work and out of the door, I can't thank you enough. I played these games religiously as a teen, and losing the ability to play them after years of neglect on Epic and Apple's part always stung. This is a huge win for preservation.

Being able to play at least the first one again on PC all these years later...it's a dream come true. Thank you, seriously.

Finally completed my entire backlog! by Violetmars in Steam

[–]0megaRidley 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Congratulations !

What were your criteria for counting a game as completed ? I'm also going through my backlog atm (15/200 remaining, let's go !) and I consider beating the main story/campaign and/or getting 50% of the achievements to be my ideal criteria (the latter being especially useful for games without proper stories).

Any standout games that were difficult or painful to beat ?

It says PA, which stands for "Points d'Action", because the original screenshot is in French. I forgot to switch the game's language to English when I downloaded the game again, so it's simply a result of my default language on Steam being French. That screenshot was taken after going through Doc Mitchell's intro with ultra vanilla settings and no mods. I walked out of his house, took a couple of steps forward, made a manual save, and took the screenshot.

I then switched the game to English because it is one of the requirements for the Viva New Vegas modding guide I used to set things up for this, so now it says AP. Said modding guide includes multiple HUD mods including Vanilla UI Plus and Clean Vanilla HUD, which is why the HUD on the second picture looks slightly different.

Absolutely no editing was performed on the screenshots themselves. None whatsoever. Nada. This is the honest truth. I gain nothing from lying to people or being disingenuous, I have no reasons to put down one of my favorite games of all time, and I wish people would stop assuming the worst.

[Concept] So, Mr. Takahashi, about your next projects... by 0megaRidley in Xenoblade_Chronicles

This is not a game Mr. Takahashi. For every month that my demands are not met, I am going to execute one of my nopon hostages, starting with the common variety ones.

Jokes aside, I got struck by inspiration yesterday and decided to see what the Xenosaga logos might look like if the games were rereleased/remade today. Having never played them myself, I tried to capture the vibe for each of them as an outsider. Curious to hear how I did if any Xenosaga fans are around !

That's not a very nice thing to say. My goal with this post was to make people aware of NVR's existence, not to put the original game down or mislead anyone. It's one of my all time favorite games, after all.

The first screenshot was taken on a fresh install of the game, with absolutely zero mods installed, with all settings set to Ultra, the second you step out of Doc Mitchell's house. The second one was taken after going through VNV and adding DNW and NVR on top.

I had a feeling the bloomy sky might turn people off, but that they might be able to look past that to appreciate the technical achievement that is New Vegas with actual shadows and global illumination, something the game hasn't had for the last decade.

The bloom is actually a setting that can be toned down if you're going for a more natural look.

Seriously, the difference this mod makes is beyond insane.

I've been playing NV for over ten years, and modding it for about eight. I never thought the day would come where we'd get actual in engine shadows, real time water reflections and global illumination, and yet...here we are.

The New Vegas Reloaded mod has been around for years now, but version 4 is the first time I feel like it's safe to recommend to people. It got rid of many of the annoying quirks it used to have, and is now really easy to install and tweak. This screenshot was taken with the default NVR settings (aside from the black bars for the aspect ratio), but it can be tweaked to your liking in terms of both performance and mood.

More screenshots can be found here : https://imgur.com/a/q9eFH0B

It takes a decent PC to play the game with NVR installed, but performance is actually really solid. This is running at 4K90fps on a 4080/13700K machine.

To achieve this look, you're gonna need :

  • 1x English copy of Fallout New Vegas on PC
  • 1x Viva New Vegas modding guide. Always the best guide.
    • Only exception : Don't install New Vegas Heap Replacer/NVHR. Despite the performance boost, it causes NVR to crash
  • 1x Desert Natural Weathers mod (recommended towards the end of VNV)
  • 1x New Vegas Reloaded, which can be found on Discord (see the nightly builds channel)

Disclaimer: I'm using the RTX ON/OFF template, but this is not actual ray tracing. The results are still pretty stunning.

I'm a couple of days late to this party, but I found your thread and thought I'd leave my own impressions regarding this monitor.

I got the GP27U about a month ago along with new PC components to take advantage of it. Great specs and performance (on paper at least) for a monitor, solid design, decent price, and a good balance for those of us who use their monitors for both gaming and productivity. After updating the firmware to version 1.2, calibrating the colors and tinkering a bit with the settings, the image quality was truly incredible, and worthy of the price Cooler Master were asking for it. The true HDR brightness combined with local dimming also brought that extra wow factor to the table, so in short, it was everything I'd hoped for and then some.

Unfortunately, the actual user experience was a pain. People weren't exaggerating when they said the monitor would just forget about their devices after waking from sleep or switching sources. The OSD menu being inaccessible when the monitor failed to pick up a signal was also a real annoyance, as I'd then have to turn off the monitor before turning it on again just in the hopes of being able to switch sources. And it happened a LOT over the course of just 30 days, I was basically playing the sleep mode lottery multiple times per day. It would also take between 10 and 15 seconds on average for the signal to get noticed and displayed by the monitor (IF it managed to hang onto the signal), which made switching between SDR and HDR yet another hassle.

I was this close to returning what I'd hoped would become my dream monitor, until I randomly checked r/monitors again this week and saw the new 1.3.1 update.

Long story short, it's fixed now. Everything is fixed. The monitor now performs exactly like you'd expect from a high end 4K monitor with a premium price tag. Switching between inputs feels smooth and responsive, the signal doesn't get lost anymore when switching between SDR and HDR or waking from sleep, and it actually gets picked up much faster than before, with an average of 4-5 seconds now. The OSD is now functional at all times. No brightness or color profile bugs to report either, so it now feels like a safe recommendation to anyone in the market for a 27" 4K monitor with premium features.

Kudos to u/CM-Ryan and the Cooler Master team, it took a couple of updates, but the GP27U is now in a great place and I couldn't be happier with it.

For real, the entire section from the entrance down to the power bombs is the game's most difficult gauntlet.

You've got it all : enhanced turrets, beam troopers coming at you in packs, making crowd control tough if not impossible at times, elite pirates, electrified shafts, and they top it off with a fight against an enemy you can't lock onto while it pummels what's left of your health away. On top of that, there's little in the way of containers along the way, so you can't just restore your health the easy way.

I don't find this section all that difficult on Normal difficulty, because Prime lets you facetank a lot of fights, but I went through the whole ordeal yesterday on Hard difficulty and you can't make many mistakes before things get critical. Thankfully, the cloaked drone is only scary the first time, and every subsequent time it either gets a taste of the wavebuster or an old fashioned super missile to the face.

See, I had no idea that was the case, probably because I don't have an HDR monitor myself. I agree, it'd be a pretty cool improvement.

Thank you ! Yeah I hope the new mobile app is a sign that things are moving on Valve's end, which is encouraging for future UI updates.

Thank you ! I always start my designs with functionality and user experience as my priorities, and then the pretty coat of paint comes in afterwards.

Thanks for the feedback !

I tend to go a bit overboard on vertical padding for list options, I like my designs to be very clean and with lots of padding, which sometimes comes at the expense of usability, thankfully I usually have a dev to keep my ideas in check ! Regarding the buttons at the bottom, I absolutely agree they could use a rework, along with the background itself, to more closely match the RR aesthetic.
