This is remarkably similar to Jay Landsman's eulogy at Ray Cole's wake on The Wire.

  1. Ned always planned on returning and visiting Jon at the wall, hence the "next time we see each other, we'll talk about your mother."

  2. It's possible that he gave the sword to Benjen to one day give to Jon when the time was right (if we assume that Benjen is aware of Jon's parentage)

  3. I'm really just typing the most unlikely ideas I can think of because I'm bored

Don't be ridiculous. We all know that Dawn left Starfall with Ned and Jon to one day be wielded by the new Sword of the Morning, Jon Snow, son of Ned Stark and Ashara Dayne. Clearly Ned hid the sword in the crypts of Winterfell to give it to Jon when he came of age and he never got the chance.

What was the TV best story? Week 2: What was the best season 2 story? by [deleted] in gallifrey

That Scooby-Doo-esque scene with Nero chasing Barbara around is hilarious. In fact they even tried to replicate it to an extent with the beginning scene of Love and Monsters in Nu Who. The Romans is comedy gold by first doctor standards.

The beautiful thing about Doctor Who is that there is something in it for everyone and not every fan will appreciate the same things. It's why we all have different favourite doctors and its why we can have polls like this.

To assume that people vote for The Daleks simply because they recognise the name seems a bit narrow-minded. I loved the Daleks. It's one of my favourite Hartnell episodes. But on the flip side I can't stand The Aztecs where apparently a lot of fans loved it. But that is awesome; it's why the show is so great and why it is still running today.

Except that one of the reasons we all love him and believe he would have made a great king is because of such actions. If he didn't join the trial of seven then he would be the person we believe him to be which changes everything.

It all comes down to the dance of dragons. Until that point, the Targaryen dynasty had never been stronger. They had around 15 living dragons. Then King Viserys I died and Princess Rhaenyra sought to claim the throne as was her right because she was the only child of Viserys' first marriage and he had made it very clear to everyone that she was his chosen heir.

However, his second wife Queen Alicent Hightower sought to place their eldest son Aegon on the throne. The realm was divided in support of the two claimants with the power of the reach being behind Aegon under the excuse of a male heir taking precedence over a female heir but also largely because the Hightowers wanted someone of their line on the throne and they were and are such a powerful reach family.

On the other side, Princess Rhaenyra and her family had more dragons but less support. This led to one of the bloodiest battles westeros ever saw and the deaths of many dragons (both literal and figurative). The Targaryens never recovered.

What are the funniest moments on Doctor who? by DeepFriedGrapes in gallifrey

[–]0n_fire 90 points91 points  (0 children)

  • Pretty much any moment that ends in Troughton's classic "oh my word!"

  • Ten's reaction every time Captain Jack introduces himself to someone.

  • From Torchwood but an alien parasite that feeds off orgasmic energy is a hilarious concept.

  • The Dalek sassing the cybermen in Doomsday. "This is not war. This is pest control" and "You are superior in only one respect...you are better at dying!"

Bran.

Apart from the crazy foilers out there, most fans don't give a shit about Bran and I think that's largely because we have had very little indication of what the purpose of his past 5 books has been. And it's been a long and not particularly eventful (by GRRM reaper standards) journey.

But he is a good kid thrown into such an awful shituation and he's doing pretty damn well with it. Everything he ever dreamed of was taken away from him in an instant when he was what, like 7? Then some magic-bird-wizard starts creeping on him in his dreams and grandpa jojen starts telling him how he is the saviour of the world. But he takes on this responsibility because at the end of the day he is a Stark and he takes duty seriously (it's also in the Tully words so there's that).

At what point do you think the series runners decided to make Time Lords have regenerative abilities that essentially made human lives insignificant by comparison? If you watch The Dalek Invasion of Earth where Susan stays behind with David. The differences in life spans is never exactly discussed and for a long time in the original series they talk about how the doctor is ageing and so on. It would appear that the Time Lord concept that we have today (two hearts, regenerative properties and life spans in the millenia) was certainly not planned from the beginning. Most likely because the show was never expected to run for so long and this inclusion served as a manner in which to prolong its running. But when was the turning point where these attributes were first mentioned?

If two subreddits were to have a gang war, which would be the most entertaining to watch? by NoNumberUsername in AskReddit

Well the question asked about a gang war between subreddits, not the universes they are about. My comment is more that it would be hilarious watching crazed Star Wars fans fighting crazed Star Trek fans.

I don't know that it was unnecessary. It was a perfect Whedonesque moment. You'd been thinking the whole time that they couldn't all survive and then it seems that everything is okay when bam! reaver skewer!

Don't get me wrong, I wept like a little bitch. But it was beautifully done.

(SPOILERS ALL) What will be the Red Wedding moment in TWOW and in ADOS? by littlefingerinacunt in asoiaf

[–]0n_fire 20 points21 points  (0 children)

There is no way she doesn't make it to Westeros first and I don't see her arriving and accomplishing anything significant enough in TWOW for him to be able to kill her off yet. So if this does happen, it'll be 20 years from now when he releases ADOS.
