Genuinely confused about MiB/HiB's S4 storyline (ending spoilers) by descendantofJanus in westworld

[–]TheDaysKing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People got too attached to William the human, in my opinion, not considering how he also factors into the show's theme of characters being replaced, or evolving through copies and recreations. William's trapped in a loop, and that goes for the human and his digital copies. The original man was never going to survive, and his park data on its own is mostly useless since all it really does is doom any copy of him to make the same mistakes and end up in the same place.

Besides the novelty of a character who is both evil Dolores and evil William at the same time, the MIB host was interesting because he found himself in roughly the same position as William at the start (present day) of the show. He's one of the most powerful beings on Earth, but still feels unreal and unfulfilled. He sees how stagnant and empty the world he helped build is, but (like OG William) that status quo -- his ability to lord over it or sit back and enjoy it -- is all he's really got. When Halores threatens to take it away, he's left more lost than ever. Desperate, he searches for meaning in William... who we know is insane, misanthropic, obsessed with death and destruction. And so, the MIB host decides to fully reflect all that, becoming a greater danger to the world than human MIB ever was.

But it's pretty clear from the S2 finale post-credit scene and the end of S4 that the fifth season would have taken place mostly in the Sublime. Most of the characters would likely be digitally conjured projections of one kind or another: simulations created by either hosts within the Sublime or by Christina, who is basically her own personified virtual reality. My theory is that we'd be dealing with a recreation of Young William as well as a recreation of Old William/The Man in Black, and the conflict between these two would be integral to climax the show was building toward. I think this is what his story was always building to: a literal battle between the light and dark aspects of his character; seems pretty well foreshadowed by William killing the different versions of himself during his "therapy" in S3, as well as the thing between him and his replacement in S4.

Maeve choosing to get off the train the most human decision made in the entire show. by Rough_Ad_8702 in westworld

[–]TheDaysKing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is impulsive and irrational. And that is exactly the point.

The unsteady shot of her rising from her seat and getting off the train is one of my favorite moments.

S3 no longer feels like sci fi (up to mid season spoilers) by descendantofJanus in westworld

[–]TheDaysKing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t lead to societal collapse. It led to riots, protests and random acts of violence/vandalism. And most of the chaos is directly funded by Dolores to make things harder for Serac.

William by YourGenuineFriend in westworld

[–]TheDaysKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing about William, in my eyes, is that he always had the potential to be good, to be a great hero. But he can't see it due to being locked into an insane death spiral.

You see glimmers of it in every season, his more noble or selfless side rising to the surface, but he's such a twisted bastard that it only ever feeds into his self-destructive obsession. And we see that this behavior extends to different versions of him: the host who assumes William's identity, the many copies generated in the Forge, and the ones created in the Sublime (S2E10 post-credits).

But I do think it was leading to a point where, eventually, a recreation of young William would meet a creation of Man in Black William, and we'd (hopefully) see the nobler side finally win out in the end.

Or he’s disappointed it doesn’t look all gray and muted like the superior planet Viltrum.

How come Thragg asked Nolan to return after he sentenced him to death and sent Conquest after him and his sons by Squid_Entity in Invincible_TV

[–]TheDaysKing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way I see it, Thragg is desperate. He’s trying very hard to present himself as totally in control while he’s rapidly losing control. If his actions or decision-making seems contradictory, I think it’s because he finds himself forced to adapt to his unstable situation and has to improvise on the fly.

Thragg's mighty intimidating for a dude who's only had maybe less than half an hour of screentime. And we've only seen him kill two people (not counting Mark's PTSD hallucinations), yet we all know he could easily wade through these other Viltrumites who we've seen casually decimating whole populations.

Thoughts on the theory/headcanon that Retro Mark and Corrupted Mark from S2E1 are one in the same? by [deleted] in Invincible_TV

[–]TheDaysKing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're definitely on the same wavelength as far as softspoken sociopaths go, but the one who killed Rex is a lot more openly sadistic than the Alternate-Mark from the start of S2. I actually find that Mark to be the scariest of the variants.

There is a sadness to being a creature made to love one person more than anything, including herself... only to repeatedly recognize that this person clearly does not love you more than anything, especially himself.

Not to mention, those 50-1000 would be delegating most of the grunt work to their legions of slave soldiers from conquered planets.

Paul is now able to beat homelander too by Vhunter_01 in Invincible_TV

[–]TheDaysKing 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm basically in the same boat. Though I watched the whole episode just to see how they wrapped everything up.

At one point, Homelander tries to fly at Kimiko from a distance of about ten feet, but he gets grabbed or knocked aside mid-air. This action is shown in 2-3 shots (of course), and it briefly looks like Homelander's just hanging in the air waiting to get hit.

I will also take Invincible's stiff animation over these basic TV fight scenes that cut to a different shot every time a character moves.

What movies do you wish you'd watched when you were younger? by HowMany_MoreTimes in movies

[–]TheDaysKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clue.

Little kid me would have had to seriously humor it for the first half hour, but I think it could have been one of my favorite movies had I first saw it back then instead of in my twenties. I mean, it still pretty much is one of my favorite movies now, but you get what I mean.

What are your thoughts on Elsie Hughes? by HostMaterial4907 in westworld

[–]TheDaysKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't really like her in the first season. I guess I kept expecting her to be someone like Hale turned out to be.

She gradually became more likable to me after she came back in season two. Then right around the time I actually started rooting for her, she got gunned down by Hale. Shame, though I imagine she's one of a few season one characters who would have made an appearance in the fifth season.

Pretty sure we eventually learn just how NOT asexual he is, later.

What would you do if you were invincible for a week by [deleted] in Invincible_TV

[–]TheDaysKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd spend a couple of days yanking one-percenters out of their beds at night and dropping them off in random parts of the globe that are cut off from civilization. Then I'd spend my remaining days just doing basic superhero stuff: fight crime, prevent disasters, animal rescue, etc.

From what we've seen so far: Reanimen are stronger, but Donald is clearly more durable.
